Good Points: Very clear reception. Picks up baby's breathing very well.
Bad Points: When charged, the parent monitor does not seem to last that long without being on the charging unit.
General comments: In general the Philips SC477 Digital Baby Monitor is a very good product, and I would buy again.

For a baby alarm at the price level of the Philips SC477 Digital Baby Monitor, I think you would expect rock solid technical performance and top notch usability. But a number of details like the ones above - one more crucial than the other - tell a different story.
Maybe some of the flaws - as I would call them - stem from one or more specific errors in the units we have. I can't tell, but the set is only seven months old, and it should be working perfectly.

It's much less than telephone quality, but it doesn't really need to be good. So for that reason it seems like a lot of money, and perhaps something cheaper would suffice. DECT gives peace of mind of anybody eaves dropping into the monitor. But, what is there to listen into anyway?? Some baby crying or silence for maybe 2 hours max in the evening. ...

The Philips SC477 Digital Baby monitor is sleek, efficient and does exactly what you need from it. The baby unit has a built in nightlight, and the parent unit is small and compact, and holds its charge for at least 12 hours. We tend to keep it by the side of the bed in its charger. The clarity of sound is excellent, and the intercom function is useful to get the husband to bring things upstairs!
