★★★★★

It was the Sunbirds maiden voyage in June 1999 and also my Husbands surprise 60th birthday. We did it in style and thoroughly enjoyed it. I've mentioned the Sunbird to everyone and it's an experience never to be missed. We were going to book our holiday on the Sunbird in 2002 but unfortunately I lost my husband. But I've still got all those wonderful memories of a holiday of a lifetime.
Thank You

Airtours Cruises, Sunbird - Never cruised before until we went on Sunbird in 2001. It was out of this world, the most fantastic holiday ever. Now want to book another on Sunbird. Definitely 10 out of 10.

Sunbird is a great ship, we sailed on the sunbird on our first cruise and have sailed with her three more times. We will sail on her again but this time it will be the destiny? The captains were great, as were the crewe. A truly nice sailing ship.

Sunbird is a great ship with friendly staff and a good atmosphere. Fantastic food and a great idea to have all inclusive drinks package, but only for the first week or you may find you are constantly inebriated! If you can do try to get seated at the staff captains table because he buys the wine! Although the ship can accomodate up to 1500 passengers it never seems crowded. Pleasnty of sun beds - always.
Antigua is a very beautiful island. We took our one and only excursion on this island to ensure we got a good look around. Thereafter we just used the local taxis on each island who were more than helpful (and much cheaper). On St Kitts our taxi driver came to pick us up an hour earlier as the weather was so bad! On Barbados we went to the Boatyard which was recommended by one of our dinner waiters. It was absolutely fantastic. A great beach, great snorkelling and lots of activities available - even trampolines in the ocean! Maggens Bay beach on St Thomas was spectacular- you must go there. Catalina Island was definitely the highlight of the whole two weeks. A picture paradise. We snorkelled off of the beach with amazing results. The waiters pampered us hand and foot with drinks on the beach even though we sat a good 10 min walk from the bar. What Service! The buffet lunch BBQ was all you can eat and was so tasty. There was even a welcoming party of steel band drums. Well done to all the staff for making this our best ever holiday. We will return.

The Itinerary on Airtours Cruises was st lucia : very pleasant island but steep roads! barbados:great island the beaches was great if you went there I would recommed to go on the local buses as they play out regge music on the bus and the fares are very cheap! Dominica:the island is dogey I advise you to stick to near the ship if you go ashore independant. We went whale and dolphin watching we saw about 3 or 4 whales! and loads of dolphins. If your an animal lover i recommend this tour!
St maartin:the island is split into 2 halves the french side and the dutch side. The ship docks in the dutch side and the best thing to do is go independant and go to the local town (Phillpsburg) and go shopping! it is not expensive either. I bought some channel sunglasses for $20 (and there not fake!)in England the cost £145 ! The beaches are nice but if you have long hair try to hide it as people will want to braid it and do check if they have a license because the tourist police will come after them! Leaving you with half braided hair!. Tortola: if you get a taxi I advise you to go to cane garden bay beach! It is excellent! with toilet facillities , and if you go in the sea don't stand where the waves breaking point is because there are extremely big waves which will sweep you under and it is very hard to get air! so just go abit further out. The roads in tortola are very steep steeper than you could imagine. So fasten your seat belt because you will be in for a steep and bumpy ride!

“The Airtours Cruise on the Sunbird was our second...”

★★★★★

written by tonyp on 21/03/2004

The Airtours Cruise on the Sunbird was our second cruise. The first was on the Thomson Spirit in the Med. last June. We found the Sunbird a larger ship than the Spirit and very impressed with the standard of the public rooms.
We checked our cases in at Manchester airport and the next time we saw them was outside our cabin door on the ship, this was great.
On arrival in the Dominica Republic we were taken from the plane and put onto busses for embarkation on the Sunbird.
on entering the ship we procceded to the Oklahoma lounge and obtained boarding cards which also acted as our drinks card at the bars.
All very efficient. Table numbers are allocated on arrival on board ship and ours was in an alcove of the seven seas restaurant (Magellan) on the port side of the ship. Second sitting gives you more time to get ready for the evening and you can afford time to stand on the top decks and watch the ships departure from the various islands.
The shows take place in the Can Can lounge and are on twice an evening, one for each meal sitting. These shows are very professional and we enjoyed them all.
There were two formal evenings onboard and most of the passengers made the effort to make these evenings special.
Our first stop was at Antigua and we just strolled around the town in the morning and in the aftenoon shared a taxi to Millers beach. The people on the island are wery friendly and well layed back. The taxi driver offered to come and pick us up from the beach and would not take any money until we all arrived back at the ship.
The next day was St. Kitts. Here the weather was not good and we spent most of the day trapped in a shopping arcade waiting for the rain storm to subside.
St. Thomas was the next stop and all onboard had to attend immigration proceedures in the Can-Can lounge. We had to be there at 6.30 am, I hope that we treat the Americans the same when they enter our country.
St. Thomas is a great place to do some duty free shopping in respect to gold and diamonds. Also Digital and Video cameras are good value. With video cameras UK people should choose the Pal system ones wich are about $50 more.In the afternoon we went by taxi ($6) to Maggins Bay Beach. This is a loverly beach that costs $3 each but has every aminity and is kept very clean.
Puerto Rico (San juan) was our forth stop. We had a wander around the town and looked at an old fort on the headland. This is a modern town and very clean, one notices the American influence, and is more affluent than the other islands that we had previously visited.
Our last island was Catalina, and just what many would expect paridise to be. Palm trees down to a white sandy beach with the light blue sea and our ship anchored half a mile offshore. The waiters from the ship coming round with cocktails and a BBQ at lunchtime made and served by the ships crew. What a way to end a perfect holiday. Well done My Travel.

“This is our 3rd consecutive cruise on the Sunbird...”

★★★★★

written by Dusty Miller on 16/02/2004

This is our 3rd consecutive cruise on the Sunbird around the Caribbean Sea and althouigh the weather was probably the worst that we have experienced most of the Islands that we visited were the best we have seen. We arrived in Barbados opn Sat Jan 31st and spent the first few days in Tobago, Grenada and Dominica these were beutiful Islands and our experience was so good that we want to spend more time their exploring and miuxing with the residence.
Unfortunatly Martinique is just too FRENCH and Europe is throwing too much money at that land.
Tortola was wonderful as was Catalina island.
I think that if the Dominican Republic was omitted from the cruise itinery every one would be happy and as for the fuss at St Thomas's well i think the Americans completely are distroying what I would class as a lovely Island. The same goes for Porta Rica. The weather was not brilliant on our second week burt it was certanly hot enough to tempt us to go back.
May be next year
My only other complaints are that the drinks are far too expensive and I NEVER WON THE BINGO.
