Good Points: VERY accurate, 22 ft-lbs out of the box using SuperDome pellets. I shot a surprising (to me) 1 X 2-inch 5-shot pattern at 50 yds OFFHAND!!--the best I've ever managed in that ungainly position. Well-made and reliable, as are all RWS air rifles.

Bad Points: Heavy mother, hard on the shoulder to carry around--a sling is a must. Cocking is not easy--if you are slight, be sure you can manage it.

General comments: Unusual mechanism of this side-lever, spring-piston causes the entire receiver to move back in opposition to the spring and piston at them moment of the shot, thus cancelling out any recoil. The result is a rock-solid telescopic sight-picture, unlike all other spingers, in which the sight-picture moves enough to obscure the target--or even black out.

After hunting with a Model 48 for years, the Model 54 is a revelation. For the first time, there is no scope black-out at the moment of placing the shot! For the first time with a magnum spring-piston I can see exactly where I hit (or missed) my target.

This is the most accurate airgun I have shot yet. Within the first 50 shots I was shooting sub 1/8th 3 shot groups at 20 yds from a bench. Thats an oblong hole and the gun is not even broken in yet. Before you say "my gun can do that" go out and try it first. Worth every penny. I used the crosman pointed pellets. The others I tried weren't as good.

This 54 in .22 is a great pellet rifle! Accurate, plenty of thump, but not cheap but you get what you pay for, but then you don't want the low bid for brain surgery either.....Feed it RWS pellets and treat it right and it may outlive you Yes it weighs around 10 lbs ...only 10 ....if its too freakin' heavy for you, use it to do some curls and situps and get in shape enough to put a sling on it so you can hump it a 1/4 mile to your chipmunk killing field or stay home and get your self a Red Ry ...

You'll hit everything you aim at with this RWS Model 54 .22 cal. Marksmanship will become secondary to your simple enjoyment of the piece. I call it the Versaille Special, inspired by a terrible treaty, and the Germans indeed perfected the idea of the air rifle. The RWS 54 Air King is the specific incarnation of that perfection.

Without a doubt the best made, most accurate springer available for under $2,000. I set pennies up at 25 yards and with iron sights can hit those 97 of 100 shots. When I first got mine I shot about 25 shots to sight it in, out of the 475 I had left in the first tin I took out 172 squirrel and 215 birds. I can't get that accuracy out of my .22 rimfire. Heavy gun but a real gun should feel like its real.
Best .22 springer made, period. break barrels suck and pale in comparison, I own 11 and there' ...

Prepare to be spoiled! I purchased a 54 in .22 cal after a bad experience with a 48 (see my RWS 48 review) -- and after purchasing an RWS 350. All I can say is -- what a gun!As I said, this rifle WILL spoil you. The lack of felt recoil makes it almost seem like you're not firing at all. I have had to force myself to shoot my 350 at times simply to keep "on my game" with other rifles. As a whole, I've had nothing but great experiences with this rifle (since getting it in October of '07). I di ...

Overall well built but I would have liked to see the gun have less plastic on it. Overall it's a good plinking gun or hunter especially in .22 cal.

    It's a keeper

Ok, Here is my take on the 54 after 4 years of testing. The gun itself is extraordinarily well built and i've found my power level has maintained itself
through out approx. 5000 shots. The accuracy has changed little if at all and i have to date never cleaned the barrel with anything more than several felt cleaning pellets run through together. I have oiled the moving mechanisms external to the gun every 3 shooting sessions or so and the spring every 1000 shots with RWS spring oils. This gun s ...

I've had the RWS Model 54 in .22 for about a year now. Accuracy came quickly to me partly because this was not my first springer, but mainly due to the recoiless system imo. Like many others have stated, this rifle spits out JSB exacts 5.52 like lasers in terms of accuracy, compared to other magnum rifles at least.

Power did not disappoint. I'm not a hunter so I only do casual plinking of metal targets, but this thing really packs a wallop. At 30 yards I can get 3/4 groups while my frie ...

I have had maybe 100 or so shots through the RWS Model 54 .22 cal gun so far, and I find it to be among the most accurate guns that I have fired. The power is a bit under what others are claiming on my gun, but close to what RWS claims. Most guns are chronied with the lightest pellets, and that is what I used. The RWS Hobby pellets. They were chronied out of my gun @ 856 fps. The velocity should go up a bit with break in, and I always Moly the essential parts after a little while. With JSB 5.52 ...

I've owned the RWS 54 for about a year now and I still enjoy this gun. Its quite heavy to lug around, but for a bench shooter, it's great.
The weight does balance out suprisingly well though.

My 54 untuned will push 14.3 grain Premiers at around 840fps. JSB Exacts also do well in this gun. The Kodiaks and heavier pellets do not do so well.

At 30-40 yards, I can regularly get dime sized groups with no problem if I do my part. On a windless day, I can get half dollar sized groups at 50 yard ...

RWS Model 54 .22 cal Air Rifle
I got the package deal with the RWS model 300 scope and mount. This is a high quality 4x32 AO scope and the AO is marked and easy to adjust. Quick test at range shows the AO markings to be fairly precise. Optics look *almost* as clear and bright as my Kahles (Swarovski) scopes. The mount is adjustable, rides on gimbals to eliminate stress on the scope tube and is well engineered.

The rifle is quite heavy near 10 # or so with the scope. This makes it stable for ...

Possibly the pellets are to blame for the inaccuracy of RWS Model 54 .22 cal. The rifle groups a couple of shots tightly and then throws one off for no apparent reason. At 40 feet, benching the rifle, some groups are less than 1/2" ctc but often, one of the three strays to the 1" mark. The pellets do seem to have some distortion in the tail (14.5g superdome and 14.5g superpoint) and that would explain the problem. If I could get the rifle/pellet combination in spec, I am sure that I wouldn't ...

RWS Model 54 .22 cal - First thing, I installed a Q/D sling swivel and added a Harris Bench Rest bi-pod. Tested 8 different .22 pellets on an indoor range at EXACTLY 50 yards. 5 shot groups with each pellet brand (after 200 shot break in). Top 3 are: Crosman Premier domed- 11/16"!!!, Benjamin Sheridan Diabolo- 1 3/16", Crosman Copperhead domed- 2 9/16" -- all with iron sights! Worst was Gamo Magnum pointed -- 6 9/16". However, all 8 will hit close to center of 1" patch at 30 feet. I'm two weeks ...

I bought this gun a week ago and mounted a Gamo 4 x 40 scope on it, zeroed the sights and started practicising. I have been shooting on an indoor range that is 40 feet (12 metres) long and so far have fired about 350 shots. Although there is no recoil the gun does jump a little when fired but I can still see the pellets hit the target. I have been using Gamo round nosed magnums and find them very accurate. However I have ordered RWS Super-H-Points as I intend to shoot feral pigeons in grain stor ...

I just got the RWS 54 rifle with a BSA 3-12x44 scope a few days ago. So far I am very happy with it. Having no recoil feels weird but way cool. I have a Marksman 0035 that has more recoil. This is my first "magnum" air rifle so I don't have alot to compare it to. The accuracy is very good so far with just 500 shots. I have heard that it will get better with more shots. Had problems sighting in because the scope mounts kept loosening up but it's ok now. I can get a 3/4 in group at 30 yards easil ...

The velocity of the RWS Model 54 air rifle is as stated by the mfg spec right out of the box. Treating the anti recoil mechanism with moly, and treating the spring with dampening gel lubricant was necessary to render the gun really quiet. Once this was done the rifle really became the best springer I have ever shot. Knock-down power is very satisfying. The RWS m-54 is unique, and the price is not bad for what you get.

I have had my .177 caliber RWS model 54 air rifle for one year already. The rifle is very accurate, but don't think that because of its recoilless system that you'll get the best shooter around... The first shoots that I made with the rifle were very disappointing for me...I thought that the rifle wasn't accurate for the price that it cost me. But with time, and after a lot of shots I can tell you that it is one of the most accurate guns that I've had (I have an Beemean Kodiak and a Gamo 890S). ...

The RWS model 54 is the most powerful .22 caliber air rifle I have had or seen. After purchasing the Model 54 I wanted to test it's power so I set up a metal container that I once used to water my dog and shot it from 30 yards - straight through. My other .22 caliber would only go through one side and land. That company boasted 900fps from that gun. I wanted to see if the 54 would penetrate the container with a wadcutter - it did at 20 yards. Then I put a metal can in front of the container and s ...
