never actually used the rooms (which seems a little contradictory to this review) tended to stick to the forums when on there.there were some intresting and intelligent ppl on there but many who failed to realise that an opposing view is simply a difference of opinion rather then a personal slight upon one's character...:) kind o' do miss the place and some of the ppl on there. though i'd have kept the search option. g.dawg. The site is always down. Administration overall is good but not enough uptime. I have been a long time member of ukchatterbox, I have found an alternative to UKCB is also based in the Uk. Awful site. Had occasion to visit it over about 5 years (not continuously). Each time l visit, it turns out to be a pile of shat. The moderators are racist approval-seekers. The site is owned by two Indian brothers who for three years allowed a Spanish paedophile to spam the room with lewd comments. One of the Indian brothers is also a moderator (big mistake, as if no power trip would then occur). He turned out to be an awful cocblocker, who tried to break up interracial relationships... i really liked ukcb , was easy to navigate , not like the ones i've been on lately ! such as buzzen , chat talk and the like ... i for one cant wait till its up and running again , ive being a member on and off for around 7 years and have had no trouble at all, no bans maybe a couple of warnings ;) but very friendly people most of the time and if you have a problem the mods are very helpful for the most part .... come back soon uk chatterbox :) (read more)

It is coming back Wee_myst, their servers were badly attacked, and the servers stopped all traffic. It's not UKCB's fault that they're offline, it's the person who caused it.
How long it will be before UKCB is back online is anyone's guess, but I'm guessing we will see a stronger UKCB returning :)
In the meantime honey, if you and any others haven't found a temporary chat site to use, I've set up one in the hope that anyone UKCB'ers have lost contact with their online pals, they'll find their way to the site....I must stress that the site is not in any way attempting to replace UKCB. Miikk, Jo888, Toxic, Niagara_Falls, myself, DNA, Just_myra, King_Tiger are there...others have the link but obviously this is a hetic time of year lol!
But you are very welcome to check the site out honey and use the chat room with any others you're in touch with and can bring along.

UKCB has more facilities than any other chat site, also has a vast amount of users from all over the world and regardless of what time zone users are in, there's always some ppl online at UKCB and that's what ppl look for, someone to chat to....as for lurkers, every chat site and chat room has them, staff can't do anything until the lurkers have been reported for something they've done.
If your attitude is to get rid of them just for sitting there and reading chat room convos or posts on the forums, then you haven't a clue about good administration or public relations, providing a public service to ppl is not about controlling ppl to behave to your own standards or expect them to have the same opinion as well.
A lesson you will soon learn one day I think :)

ok if you know other chatters to speak too...alot of idle non talking nicks due to being scared of rejection if saying hello to the channel. poorly staffed,non-managed and even less senior staff,ive been a reg for 5 years and only ever seen 1 admin logged in to the site on a weekend evening. another staff issue is because few will work for ukcb,....they do tend to poorly train new mods (cowboy rush job),some of who at present have "the attitude problem" yes bound to be some problems due... Well I'll go into the positive points first. It has an X in the top right hand corner. That is all. Now for the negatives. I'll start off with the 18 rooms which you are supposedly allowed to swear in and have no filter, but that is until one of their jobsworth mods comes in after a bad day and decides to abuse their power. I found it exactly as the man says - plenty of gobby nobbers who mouth off to people but go crying to "moderators" when you sling some back their way. And that's without swearing. This person was probably a major rule breaker by the tone firstly the 18+ rooms you can swear in states in the rules as long as its not aimed at anyone or used in excess and isn't a particular swear word beginning with a C.As for countdown room if the word is in breach of the room rules i.e swearing you will be removed or if your typing rubbish to be disruptive. I cant comment on individual bans however at times regardless off provocation chatters can in them selves break the rules ukchatterbox provides a block and reporting feature for this very reason and has no need to retaliate in any way to comments made by another that's what acting in a mature manner is all about.

To be honest i quite like the site. The only thing that ruins it for me is the standard of the modding which is absolutely atrocious. There seems to be very little even handiness at all. Obviously as a previous person has pointed out on here, some mods are very close to some of the chatters. You can get abused over and over again, the mod does nothing. There are alot of arrogant argumentative people who look down on the lesser educated chat users- I'd liken it to bullying -the moderators do nothing about this, ukchatterbox is a free site for whoever including educated ,uneducated, all races, all religeons and all walks of life. The few regulars seem to pick out a chosen few and gang up and stick together and "bully" the newcommer without any warnings or punishment from the mods. the mods do a very bad job. (read more)

hotmail crashes a lot, but try opening it through a different browser, like firefox for example, not sure which one you use, but google chrome crashes a lot. try a different one than the one you use. I use hotmail a lot, but I think a lot of problems that i have are due to chrome as well.

Where to begin.. UKCB is full of degenerates, dossers & single mums, you will find the lowest of the low on this site. Don't under any means think you can come on UKCB for an intelligent debate or actual conversation because the majority of the users don't have any GCSE's & have the conversational skills of 7 year olds. ive been using ukchatterbox now for 7yrs + im the early years it was a good laugh ive met lots of good people on room meets but feel now its gone down hill to many arguments people wanting to be top dog i find the larger rooms ie 50's etc to clicky so tend to stick to local rooms i think regional rooms would be good ie north west, north east, midlands etc but guess an idea from one person wont be acted upon, i also feel the site needs some serious work on it as its always down with some... lol, all well said, i couldnt agree more. mods are too quick to ban wrongly if you dare to say anything even remotely controversial as they have no idea how to deal with people conversing about things they know little about. u cannot express your opinion freely, it is full of censorship and they are happiest if you just stick to the topics such as health, weather and football lolol, they know how to handle these and that s about it lolol, i say ban the mods, they are useless, better having 2 mods that are good than 10 that dont know what word moderating means....i say people should use the ignore buttons and owners shouldmake the site more stable!

Hi, Like most have mentioned its partly the moderators decisions that spoil chat. I find that most moderators have there own rules and reasons for banning rather than the guildlines which should be followed. However, saying that the standard of chat can be very poor in alot of rooms and it seems that quite alot of chatters use the site to cause friction and negativity. The uk chatterbox site is a mirror image of society, the 40's and 50's room is to be taken with a pinch of salt, no wonder the uk kids are as they are in general. No matter what ppl say about the archaic design of ukcb, i still find it to be a very useable site. Ad-free...! its not the best but i'm comfortable with it. well we don't live in a perfect world... I don't talk in public so i don't know much about what ppl say in the main chatrooms. i think ukcb is the best if you don't it so seriously and just going there for a banter or a good laugh or to pass time.. beyond that... hmm to each and their own.

As so many people have already said, there are a lot of good people in ukcb. I have used the fifties room for about two years and still chat regularly (mostly on msn these days!) with a few people I met there.
I have found the moderation of the room I use extremely random though, depending on the personality of the moderator, and, therefore, can only raise my eyebrows in amazement when people describe them as well trained and professional.

Its interface & simple features, although a little dated, are a definite plus point. The menus are well laid out, the colour scheme is easy on the eye and the features are pretty straightforward to use.

I seriously cant believe what i have just read,are you related in anyway to the owners or married to a moderator,? that is not the same ukcb i go in and have been over the last 4 plus years..do you go in at 6am..when its dead?the moderators our a law unto themselves.. they are never around when you neeed them,they totally ignore racist comments.and while foul mouthed chat,yes i use the block button..but im a veteran chatter of 12 plus years and have moderated of there years in many rooms,mine included,if your going to write a review please be honest,, about what you write...because that is not ukcb 2012

I regularly use this site and don't agree with a few points made by Savie. <br/><br/>The situation regarding links being posted in chat hasn't changed in years so why he suddenly has a problem with this I don't know. It's perfectly acceptable to exchange links using the private messaging system. <br/><br/>The only issues come when a link is posted in the chat room itself or someone is deemed to be advertising through the private messaging system. This is only likely to occur though if a member is found to be sending the same link to numerous members. <br/><br/>I'm sure the common sense rules mentioned above & aimed at restricting advertisers / spammers can be found on the vast majority of good chat sites.<br/><br/>As for his other point regarding complaints about moderators, I'm a staff member on UKChatterbox and know for a fact that ALL complaints regarding staff are taken seriously. It's not in an administrators best interest to have poor moderators as it causes nothing but grief for both members and staff.<br/><br/>As with all chat sites there are a minority of members who use the site for reasons other than to have a friendly chat. The decent members aren't difficult to spot however so it's really a case of what Savie is doing wrong when it comes to finding them.

thanks for your comment adorable but the links in question where on topic, we wer talkin about 70's and 80's music using utube links, this has never been a problem until recently. please also note that the chester room has very few active members these days compared to 2 years ago ( yes ive been on ukcb for several years under various names, must get myself a life :( lol ), so whats gone wrong ? , ive never even had a warning in all my time on there till recently, then warnings kicks and bans for lots of people, is it the members or the staff that destoyed it ? , the only recent change is the staff, the members then went to chatshack or chatchaos instead so they could actualy speak.

Uk is old and either needs a refit or trashing, bad profiles as it can be hard to post a pic of yourself. Another downside is a lot of people use it as a breeding ground to pick an argument or start a online fight, the mods know who these are, they get banned but are back in again to start on some one else, hence it a breeding ground for them. I have seen many things in my years as a chatter following chatters onto other sites and argue in other chat rooms with there users to moderators being unhelpful and I feel nothing being done about it..

As a whole this site is good, there are many nice people on this chat, however it is those who attempt to start pathetic arguments over nothing which disadvantages the chat.
There are also soon rooms e.g. gay. lesbian, bi rooms which are 18+ which i feel isn't needed as there is no age limit on your sexuality and the site mods probably think that they will be immature about it, but this shouldn't be a problem if they mod the rooms correctly and ban the people who are using the rooms...
