Ok....i was a little dubious, but it seems the best on the shelf. So i used it... nothing after a week so I called the number on pack... they explained how it works, how long it takes... which is around 28 days. So I waited... yup weeds dead in just over 24 days, no weeds have returned and this was about 14 weeks ago!! From what I can see the old stuff did work faster, but something in the mix was banned as it was dangerous to humans!! So.... i say rather be safe for me, my family and other... (read more)

The thing is: no-one wants to wait for 24 days! You want the weedkiller to get rid of unsightly weeds quickly. I find the new Pathclear utterly useless. I decided to go o ver it with Weedol, but when I went to the bed which I did five days ago the weeds seem to be thriving! I think I will ring up too because this is a waste of money.

I thought it was just me, but looking at the above it is 'pathclear' that everyone thinks the same. I've wasted pounds on this new stuff and it has absouletly NO effect. The old pink stuff was fantastic, 2 hours and everything it touched was dead. So my question is this, WHY BOTHER selling it as PATHCLEAR when it is'nt anymore. Trade description offence me thinks!! This was an utterly reliable product and my front and back pathways were always weed and moss free - this year we are slipping on the green build up and the weeds are so thick they almost pull the paving with them when I try and get them out. The stuff is not cheap either. My garden looks a mess - help! Any ideas of a product that actually works? (read more)

I purchased the new Pathclear as I could no longer find the old one. It is useless and nothing like the old product. I telephoned the company and spoke to Lindsay. They say it may take 4 weeks to work! With the old Pathclear the weeds would have shrivelled in 48 hours. I said that if they want to use the name Pathclear, they should state on the pack that it takes weeks rather than hours to work. She also said that customers were happy with it and I was the first one to complain. (read more)

It is not Scotts fault that the bureaucrats in Brussels have removed virtually all the ingredients that actually worked for old Pathclear. What is unacceptable is that Scotts charge about twice as much for a product that only goes about half as far and does not perform to the same standard, in spite of their claims on the pack. Regretably it seems that other makes, though cheaper, are no better. So I say to Scotts, if you can't make it work, don't sell it.

My experience as well
used pathclear last year and it was amazing. This year bought "new" product and did not do a thing but cost me money for nothing.
Found some concentrate left over from last yeat and tried it. It worked great.

Yes, new Pathclear is not a patch on the old stuff. The problem is partly the EU who banned paraquat, simazine, and several other weedkillers, including Sodium Chlorate, which was a reasonable substitute for Pathclear. They did not, however, ban diquat, an excellent contact herbicide (like paraquat) - and I know of no reason why diquat is not an ingredient in new Pathclear - so Scotts are to blame for that. Was this review written by the managing director of Pathclear? Or perhaps you are blind? Or perhaps can't tell weeds from flowers? This product is as effective as water, a complete financial scam which is allowed to be sold on shelves of garden centres! The company should be found out by trading standards.

I'd kept a gravel path clear of weeds for ten years with old Pathclear, once or twice a year. The new stuff just does not work, and my path is becoming overgrown now. I think the old Pathclear weedkiller was changed because Paraquat and Simazine (the active ingredients) were banned from use by the EU. Pathclear Fast-Acting, Long-Lasting Weed Killer is not as good, and never will be as good as the original Pathclear. The reason why this product is useless at killing weeds and-the-like, is the fact that the solution/mixture no longer contains 'Paraquat'.
(Paraquat is a foliage-applied contact herbicide. This means that paraquat, which acts in the presence of light, desiccates the green parts of all plants with which it comes into contact. Paraquat acts by interfering in photosynthesis....

The previous recipe of "Pathclear" which appeared like a pink granular substance, was absolutely fantastic as a fierce systemic weed killer.
I used to mix and use it in a shoulder mounted sprayer and get about a gallon of pink liquid from one sachet, which covered both my garden paths and my driveway. Once applied to an offending Dandelion, with a light spray pattern just to cover the leaves, there was, after about 2 hours, visible signs of systemic damage, and within a day or so, nothing...

I agree wholeheartedly with the other reviews about Pathclear weedkiller. The product has completely changed due to the removal of paraquat from the mix. This has had to happen becase of legislation on it's use. You will also find that Weedol has also removed paraquat. I am also a very keen gardener and agree with you about the strength of the new product being very weak. Paraquat is the reason. Hope this explains a little.

My lucky day! Was just about to buy a large quantity of Pathclear 3, but this and the other associated reviews has changed my mind. Hope you review the efficacy of the latest Ultra version because we must obtain something that works. I assumed this problem was caused by the new legislation - and no doubt affects all manufacturers - so which is the product to buy now?

This new Pathclear 3 is very ineffective with some weeds needing 3/4 sprayings before they begin to fade and other weeds seeming resistant to it.
The fine powder is a very poor replacement for the previous granules. It drifts around in the slightest breeze, no matter how careful you are and leaves an unpleasant taste in the mouth and scent in the nostrils.
I have used Pathclear for decades but will never use this Pathclear 3 again. Why oh why did you change your product!

I agree with the above comments. Having always had 100% success with Pathclear, I am very sad to say that Pathclear3 has not even made the weeds lie down and look ill this time. And the powder form ( as oppose to the granules) makes the product much more fiddly to use.

I totally agree, and the newest 'liquid' version is even worse. Not only does it not work, but the mix volumes have been changed drastically. I am a professional gardener and use a knapsack and/or 5litre sprayer and the sachets used to be mixed with 2.5L of water for whichever method of utensil you used to apply it. Now the capsules mix into just 1L for spayers meaning you would use 5 of the six capsules in a box just to make one batch for the sprayer!!!! I'll be looking into some commercial weedkillers now as Pathclear is unusable. Bring back the pink Pathclear...it was fantastic.
