“Walking away from Microsoft”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 12/03/2013

We bought an xbox for our kids, only $99 and then 2yr contract to get LIVE. We were unable to activate, several phone calls and weeks later we get an email saying we are going to be charged an early termination fee for cancelling... WHAT? we are still trying to get assistance to activate. Then we get an email saying Best Buy showed that we returned it and voided our contract. Then we are told by Microsoft WE HAVE to return it and repurchase. That it is the only way. They cannot activate it. This is the most screwed up company. No one knows what the other one is doing.

I have bought my xbox when they came out... It has been in for repairs 4 times already. Every time I had the red rings of death. I wonder how microsoft can pull it off as I was let down with this machines...

I don't get it.

Anyway, take my advise, buy a Wii... Graphics may not be perfect, but you'll have a lot more fun in my opinion as I did.

“Played many good games whilst this console lasted, but...”

Played many good games whilst this console lasted, but regrettably Microsofts lack of interest in build quality finally destroyed any interest I had in it. The pathetically inadequate Hitachi/Samsung dvd drives make this a deeply annoying console to use even before they fail and destroy discs after (according to my experience & internet consensus) 6-12 months, because the noise they generate is simply unnacceptable. Mass Effect game finally killed this piece of garbage by daring to stress the dvd drive slighly during a long load.
Briefly considered getting an Elite to replace the thing, but found on google that the 'solutions' MS have built in are by no means a cure for everything - there's not even any guarantee of getting the slightly better Benq dvd drive apparently.
Overall, loved the games, hated the system from day one due to the ridiculous noise levels. Wouldn't consider buying MS hardware again if they were the last console manufacturer on earth.
