Good Points: Small. Lightweight. Excellent functions

    Bad Points: Build quality
    HTC service
Life expectancy of less than one year in my experience.

General comments: I really enjoyed this phone when I bought it last year. The slide out keyboard worked really well. It has quite a slow processor and would often hang. The camera is ok and comparable to other phones.

However, after 6 months of use, some of the keys stopped working - intermittently at first, and then permanently. One of the first keys to go was the 0 key. This was very frustrating as you could not dial any numbers without opening up the slide keyboard. I telephoned the service line and no body picked up. It took around 30 calls before the phone call was answered. I know from experience that they have now changed this system, and the call is now always answered- perhaps because of the high volume of complaints about the build quality of this phone.
Anyway, the operator took my details, and said I would receive an email with further instructions. The email came, but there were no instructions on it. I waited a month before contacting them again, and they answered straight away, and gave me the instructions over the 'phone. The phone went off and I received an email a week later, telling me that the phone had had abnormal use and was therefore out of warrantee. It had not been dropped or even got wet.

Are these phones only built to last 6 months? Is anything over 6 months abnormal use? I have a friend with the same phone as me, and they are now on their 3rd phone in 6 months - Luckily they had Orange care, and did not have to go through HTC.

In summary, a well designed phone let down by build quality and lack of customer service in my opinion.

I would recommend this phone for someone who wants a small, functional email phone.

I believe the HTC S710 is a very good phone, lots of functionality and features - specially the wifi. The only downsides i found are:- battery life goes down rather fast if you stay connected at all times on wifi - but this should rarely happen for the average user- windows mobile is rather slow, specially at start up. After start up, after it builds some cache, it's okay.

Overall, a good purchase. I bought my HTC S710 to replace my Nokia N80, and it's the first non-Nokia I've had since '97. It's done me well so far and the pull-out keyboard does look impressive, even if the keys are tiny. But I like it and it certainly feels good to use.

HTC S710 Vox - Windows Mobile Smartphone Review...
28 Apr 2007

Summary
Brilliant, as the British say: take the side-sliding QWERTY keyboard design from popular HTC-made Pocket PC phones such as the Cingular 8525, T-Mobile MDA and Verizon XV6700 and use it on an MS Smartphone. When we first saw the HTC Vox (that's ...

HTC S710 Windows Mobile 6.0 smartphone
14 May 2007

Summary
The HTC S710 - previously code-named 'Vox' - is a neat, petite and easy-to-use smartphone from HTC.

Verdict
Regarded as a PDA, the HTC S710 is neat and petite - but slightly heavier than it looks. Six months ago we took a look at another HTC handset that was a smartphone proper and we found its standard phone keypad easier to use than this. Still, the HTC ...

Summary
A rebranded HTC S710, the Orange SPV E650 is a great device if you want an email-centric device but don't want to lug around a massive handset. At first sight it looks like a standard candybar phone, but flicking the top section out reveals a small ...

The HTC S710 is one of the first shipping Windows Mobile 6 Standard devices, and the first non-touchscreen Windows Mobile handset with a slide out QWERTY keyboard. We did some extensive testing on the enticing device, and present to you our in-depth ...

Pros
Big screen, relatively small size, great features, QWERTY keyboard

Cons
Keyboard is a little too firm, lack of 3G

Verdict
Even if nothing else can be said about the HTC S710, the device still has one distinct advantage over most Windows Mobile smartphones: if you are looking for a device with a sliding QWERTY keyboard, there really is no competition at the moment.

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic
20 Aug 2009

I just got a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic a couple of days ago, without use, and today it fell from my hand a meter to the floor, so I had to dedicate to test everything. I am a Windows Mobile user for some time, and must say, that this one will make me change. Connectivity, music and video playback, phone quality for Europe, and ruggedness proved, its a very good choice.

BlackBerry Storm

Well worth the wait to say the least lucky to one of the first to get my hands on one. The big thing I will say if you haven't used a Blackberry before it will take a few days to get the hang of but when you do its no looking back just hang on in there and you will see what I mean, if you have used a Blackberry before its fairly similar in workings just a bit slicker in operation and a lot more extras. Simple little tricks for easy fast sending of emails and text, rapid access to the phone...

This Blackberry Storm should not have been released, it is an awful piece of engineering. It is very very slow, it does not let you hold the phone to your face as your cheek acitvates the other buttons.

BlackBerry Pearl 8100
15 May 2007

I am probably going to return the Blackberry Pearl during the fourteen day trial period simply based on the reception quality. I think phone manufacturers are forgetting that it is a phone first and are too busy working on the camera, MP3 or organizer feature. I really like the email and if I travelled more would place more importance on this function.
