“Terrible treatment at Crawley autocentre”

I was a few minutes late and they refused to do either the service or MOT. No attempt was made to book me in for another time. On complaining about my treatment I received an email assuring me that someone would deal with my complaint. To add insult to injury I phoned the number left on my voicemail and got a telling off again for being later. Apparently if you are even "2 minutes" late you cannott have an MOT or service done. “What new bike service?”

Ordered two bikes, for the Niece and Nephew with the brightest lights, pump and lock you could muster. The bikes were in we were advised.. yippeee thought my loved ones of 16 and 20, looking forward to cycling to college and elsewhere as bike mania opens up new lives for them... “Cheap MOT's but it will cost you in the end.”

I went to a Halfords Service Center because they had 1/2 price MOT's and I needed one ASAP and they could get me in. I am a mechanic myself so I made sure my car was tip top before I brought it in and didn't expect anything to fail. I dropped my car off and left for an hour. When I came back I was told that they were just finishing up and one of my side marker bulbs was out. They told me they were going to call me but the technician had just gone ahead and replaced it and it would be £6.... (read more)

Halfords Acton Town, mammamia brought car for MOT, they took whells of to measure brake disks?(not allowed by VOSA) only visual check is acceptable, and of course front brakes needed replacement otherwise they told me it's MOT brake fail.Of course I did not agree coz car had major service 2 years ago with brakes changed, went to normal garage where MOT cost 54 pounds, no problem with brakes,100% no problems whatsoever. I took my car to the Shrewsbury branch and was initially pleased as they booked me in for the next day. Now I know why they had plenty of appointment slots available, no one who actually values their car would ever take it there again! All I wanted was an MOT and the tracking checked. Took car for MOT in Birkenhead, failed on brakes, but nothing wrong with the brakes except the tester loosened the brake pipe deliberately, which was leaking. I know because they took the car into a area where it could not be viewed and closed the garage roller doors. Hooked me in with a cheap service, then phoned to say my front suspension arm is near falling off and is not road worthy. Quoted me £400 to fix, would not give me break down of costs when i asked, some speel about set charges etc. which planted the seed of doubt in my mind. “Rip off merchants - Halfords, Hayes.”

Don't bother wasting your time with these guys. They charge over the odds, then if you don't agree to pay their quote, they'll charge you again to get your car back. “CHARLTON RIP OFF”

I contacted Halfords Autocentre at Charlton on Friday last week to request a quote for brake pads and discs (Front) replacement for my Vauxhall Astra, was advised that the total cost including labour and parts was going to be £170. I agreed and took my car in this morning, left it for a free Brake check, then 20 minutes later got a call from them reporting that it would cost £240 to replace front discs and brake pads, another £70 on top? “MoT Rip Off - Halfords Autocentre Stirling”

Please don't touch this place, they will make sure you are overcharged for work that isn't needed. The small problem was replacing two bulbs that were fine when I dropped the van off and checked them. So that cost me about 20 extra, not a massive problem. But then the guy told me my handbrake was faulty. I took my car to kwick fit due to some noise on 1st and 2nd gear change. A very good technician told me I had problem with my gearbox. I took second opinion from gearbox specialist and he said the same thing. What do you expect? They need to take apart the car to provide warranty direct with an exact price on what needs doing. Its not there fault that your policy doesn't cover it. So what are they meant to do? Just put the car back together and say 'thanks for letting us work on your car for 4-6hours and earn nothing for it'. No YOU must pay.

“Battery replacement - scunthorpe”

Took my camper in for a new battery to be fitted - the battery was priced above the going rate and they also charge for fitting which others don't but had no option on bank holiday sunday - Took one look at it and said it would be difficult - struggled a bit with it - decided it couldn't be done and gave up. Got a refund for the whole lot and went away. Probably the only customer this morning and they couldn't really be bothered. (read more)

“Incompetent and expensive”

I took my car for repair because of an intermittent ‘injection fault’ message being displayed on the dashboard screen. They replaced the fuel filter and charged me over £150 for diagnosis, parts and labour. Despite that the receptionist sounded confident about the repair, the message reoccurred at the first opportunity I drove on the motorway. Paid in advance on line in January for my MOT and a full service which I arranged for February at Halfords in Harrow. They told me that my car had passed the MOT but my head gasket was gone, also gave me a huge list of things that needed to be done amounting to £2,000. When buying anything from Halfords you better open up the package in front of them before leaving the store. We thought we was buying a Navman Mio 479, but found out later that it was a Navman Mio 475 put in the 479 box to sold as a 479. I take my car to my local Halfords EVERY year for it's service and MOT and have NEVER had a problem with the service. Clearly it must depend on area etc, however here in Evesham, I cannot fault them. Got a free fuel service this time round and the fuel consumption of my 2008 Mondeo went from just under 40 mpg to 46+ mpg!! Cannot fault Halfords in Evesham, as for them being on commission, be careful what you write as it's libellous. The guys at mine are paid HOURLY!! No I don't work for Halfords either before you ask, I'm a truck driver who trusts my local centre!

Dreadful! I booked my car in for all four sets of pads and discs to be replaced. When I got to the Autocentre on Monday morning they had marked the work slip as FREE brake check. I scribbled this out and wrote "replace all pads and discs" as discussed and booked in. I have used Halfords Blackpool many times. Depsite reports from other sites the Blackpool Autocentre manager is great . His nmae is Ged, he is very honest and only charges me for the work that is needed. He has never ripped me off at all. He always keeps parts if I want to see them. My daughter took her car to Halfords in Bath for an MOT. It failed on a tyre which they said was split and a sidelight bulb. They would only sell her the most expensive (and overpriced) tyre as they said anything else was unsafe and unavailable anyway. An MOT I could have had done where I live would have cost £90 less. MOT: Told rear shocks were completely shot and it was total rubbish!!! Also wanted to replace complete suspension assembly instead of replacing rubber boot!!!! One of the members of staff suggested it would be better if they were stuck onto the car instead of using screws and thinking that this was a lad who knows what hes talking about, I agreed. My son took his car to Halfords in Feltham for his MOT last week. He thought he would save some money because it was half price. There is only one reason it is half price and that is so they can fail it on everything possible and get you to have the work done there where they can overcharge you. “Mechanic didn't know how to bleed brakes! ”

Took my car to Halfords in Watlington Road, Oxford, the brakes were making a slight scraping sound and I wanted it checked out. Took advantage of Halfords halfprice MOT. Advisory that the front wheel bearings needed changing, this was two days after a Main dealer service. I went back to the main dealer and there was nothing wrong. My partner had the same thing with her Yaris, only they said it was a rear bearing, but they could not make up their mind which side, as they put nearside on the MOT advisory and offside on the bill! I booked my BMW 1 series in for a "half price" MOT on FEbruary 15th 2013 at Halfords Coventry (Foleshill Road). They failed it on a suspenion problem and then also advised 2 other points as amber. The total cost of rectisying these problems would have been in excess of £250. Hello, I wanted to share my experience with halford Feltham Center where I went to do MOT and Servicing. Unfortunalty my experience was not good...they find out the faults and failed my MOT for some or other reasons and mint a big fat money from me. After coming to home I have checked the price of parts which was replaced and come to know that it is costing only 25 pounds + labour but they charged me £170 pound to replace. Along with that they also suggested me to replace rear breake pads and provided me a cost of £235 pound again when I checked online break pads and disc is costing £100 pound + labour... and some additional costs.. in total they are planning to charge £700 from me which I denied and not gone ahead. Pls beaware of halfords and dont go for any servicing or MOT anytime...... Thanks C G

I bought a Tomotom sat-nav last November from Halfords, Maidenhead. It started to fall off within 3 months. Obviously it was within warranty so I took it back to the shop. Hoping to get it repaired. I wanted to get the parrot ck3000 supplied and fitted by halfords in charlton. After paying and having it fitted I noticed that when the car was not running (keys not in ignition) the red light still stayed on on the parrot dial. I asked the fitter if this was how it should be and he said YES. I asked if this would drain the battery and he said nowway. I booked my car into the Farnborough branch for a M.O.T and tyre replacement. I needed one new tyre replacing as one was wearing thin. On my arrival at the office i was asked which tyre needed replacing. I informed them which one it was and then left my car for the M.O.T. Fully agree with every word of this. Had a half price MOT there yesterday and felt like the failures were a complete rip off.
After spending 3! Hours in their waiting room and speaking with other customers it seems they don't pass a single car. The half price started to make a lot of sense.

Had my car for 6 months and only drove 1000 miles. Was due for an MOT but the garage we bought it from was quite far so we booked it at Halfords thinking it will be a straight forward thing. Halfords west Ealing I booked my car for an MOT in this garage. Brought the car at given time early afternoon, was told it would be finish by 3pm but they would call me. They didn't call, went back to garage at about 4pm because I had nothing else to do. My car had just been taken in. Waited an hour to be told it didn't pass MOT. I ordered a tyre to be fitted at the Kings Lynn branch. Whilst fitting the tyre, a problem with the wheel was, correctly, identified. I was advised that the wheel should be replaced as soon as possible but was allowed to drive away with a new tyre fitted to the damaged wheel. I drove 22 miles to my normal garage to arrange for a new wheel by which time the tyre fitted by Halfords was flat and so damaged that it had to be replaced. Always used Halfords to service my Astra but never again. Had a major service 15 months ago -should have replaced antifreeze which should last at least 24 months but when I checked it recently it showed less than 17%.Took it back and they drained & replaced antifreeze. Just after,took same car for a safety check at another national dealer-when they took rear drums off they said they had not been removed due to amount of dust and wear on linings(only driven 5000 miles since Halfords service.... I am a trained independent bicycle mechanic and have repaired hundred of bicycles - many of which originated at Halfords. My experience with their bicycles is that the quality varies massively and their customer service is consistently poor. How do apollo bikes differ in quality from anywhere that sells cheap bikes? a cheap bike is a cheap bike where ever you buy it from! What is the spec of your sub £150 bikes? if you actualloy sell them.

In answer to your question: I do not sell any bicycles, only repair and maintain them. You're correct in that any cheap bike is a cheap bike but the review was about Halfords in particular, not cheap bikes in general.

“useless halfords”

filton bristol - 2and a half hours to mot - damaged front light failed a legal tyre and by adding insult to injury told me i was free to go ! unbelievable ! (read more)

OMG , I am now outside Halfords waiting for my MOT done. It has already been 3 hours. The car is still parked where I left it.

Reading all these complaints I am worried so much what the out come going to be....
