“Damaged sofa”

If you are looking to buy a sofa I would definitely not recommend sofology. Whilst the staff in store and delivery drivers are efficient the rest cannot be said about the product I received. I ordered my sofa in October last year to be delivered in time for Christmas. Yes I received my items with days to spare, the 22nd December in fact as that was one of the only slots available by the time I could book my delivery. Purchased a Leather corner maxim suite in august 2015 16 months later the leather has failed, pictures have been taken taken and the technical team agree the leather is in poor condition, the sofa has been cared for correctly and subjected to minimal use, as a resultion sofa works are requesting we pay £700 to receive a credit not for a new suite. 15 months after placing our order and after taking delivery of 4 different suites SOFOLOGY today attempted to deliver the suite we ordered but alas this one was ALSO FAULTY. So being good friday they decided to remove the suite from my home and leave me without a seat to sit on. ABSOLUTELY DISGRACEFUL and to top it all they wont refund for at least a week. Called in last week to have a look around and spoke to a lovely young man. We ordered a rug in January and expected to pick it up on 17th March, it's now April and still no rug! Having had numerous conversations on the phone, we were told each time it will arrive in the next week. Ok not a real review ....per say. I have a wonderful corner group ...the Rimini. Hard wearing and comfortable. Took out 5yr care plan ins with castelan. FFW 4 years and following a fall I damage the back panel of sofa. A poor 1st repair attempt saw need for a new panel to be stitched in. Manufacturer was unable to batch match the colour of the leather so have been given credit note for full purchase price. “Faulty goods”

There is some room needed to allow for fibres to puff up .....but that shouldnt mean times inbetween see it so baggy it creases ....which leads to premature wear and fading etc . A store example will of been sat on repeatedly enough to gauge how coverings respond or fillings 'settle' with extended use. Was that different to the one you saw instore? Its not cotton wool either....lol They use that as a comparison so we can visualise it. They shouldnt its a bad bad one to use. The fibre fillings are ployester fbres or 'Hollow Fibres' as known which need occasional pumping up with a firm equal slapping action on cusions etc. This will recover and hold shape sufficiantly enough for comfort and aesthics. If not or creasing remains following regular puming up then it could be a manufacturing issue .....insufficiant material used for the item to be fit for purpose. Worth contacting manufacturer for info on specs and weights of fillings used, so a rough informed idea can be aimed at a retailer if you have such concerns. Ringing with an 'I think....' issue is allowing excuses in, whereas, ' Ive rung the manufacturer, and I believe........' is off the bad a stronger approach .

My experience has little comparison....but what i can say is i have found customer services at sofology very very helpful and not in any way 'out to fob you off' as some buyers claim or have experienced. Fibre fillings unless faulty at manufacture are not normally covered by any warranty or grounds to reject a piece. This really is no different to other retailers or standard industry practice.

As buyers we must understand that we have an obligation to ourselves to select furniture wisely and armed with a plethora of comparisons and repeated visits to stores. I selected furniture with a credit note supplied under extended warranty for full purchase price of £1666 My gripe initially was the piece to replace like for like was some £400 more today than in 2013. I did and still do find this slightly unfair as I only sought like for like, but I found this option catagorically a No unless I stumped up the extra. Which I cannot afford now due to long term serious illness. So selection has to stand up to conditions / usage greater than the average home with comparible circumstances.
So I have tried to make my final choice as well informed as possible, which I hope I have by using the check list below.

NO ARROGANCE INTENDED OR KNOW IT ALL ATTITUDE......Just trying to help others help themselves to make that most expensive household item purchase of the year.....forthcoming years if your me!

* Be realistic. I dont expect a willy wonker everlasting sofa....but I expect relative longevity to cost etc.

* Know your stuff. Ensure you understand all the terms etc of fabric types or leathers used. Unsure....? ASK or WALK AWAY!

* Compare similar or if poss, identical examples, at several retailers.

* Try try and try again.........then again. At different retailers and at a retailers other stores in different areas.

*Take your time. Nobody rushes to give you ££££ so dont feel the need to choose right now this instance. Better to miss a £100 saving on that sale ending today item, than spend ££££ on something from somwhere that lasts just over the 12mth min guarantee period.

* Read reviews.......but cautiously. No retailer can please 100% of buyers 100% of the time. Things can and do go wrong in a high volume moving industry. So use a measured approprately balanced eye when perusing them. Where possible a past or current owner is worth a dozen salespersons' opinions. No matter how impartial they claim to be or are.

* Then, do it all again and again until your confident youve got as much info as your going to without owning a piece.

ALSO WORTH NOTING...
Not to do with selection out right but, MEASURE your existing sofa and entry into your home. Sounds obvious, but most dont think to, then blame retailers for not getting that perfect, well selected, sofa into their home. DOH!

INVEST IN THAT EXTENDED WARRANTY if you can afford to.
You hear way too often to leave them alone, but I can from first hand experience, state mine has been worth every last penny. An accidental damage claim was repaired, but not to my liking. This led to a cash offer to settle or alternative repair method. When this was not an option due to batch issues, my full purchase price was offered in a credit note, as per T&C's, or a reasonably generous 'cash-out' to settle. All done in under the time most sofas are delivered!! Not once at any point was my claim not looked upon as genuine, nor was I expected to jump through every hoop or provide inside leg measurements to justify the claim.
I was dealt with respectfully, kept well informed and everything done efficiently.
Just think on....these guys do this day in day out 24/7 almost, and can smell BS over the phone. Dont lie about anything no matter how tiny. Before yore ring, carefully read your warranty T&C's to ensure you are claiming within the companies requirements / rules. Be polite, explain yourself clearly and concisely and always make a note of whome your speaking to etc.

I am sure most of the reviews are based on the sales store experience, not the after sales contacts. We gave a five star rating after our visit to the store - wish we had waited till delivery time. Helpful, not pushy salesmen. Can't claim prices are best. Seems no room for negotiation but anyway after exhaustive (and exhausting) shopping around, it was the only place that had the chair we wanted. Web site good to do initial choices, but you've got to sit in the actual chair and see the colour choices properly. Prices identical by both routes. We are still awaiting our sofa to arrive as there is a 16 week lead time, however the issue I have with Sofology is their Sales approach and proposition. Sofology Salesmen in store always state very clearly and precisely that they are unlike any other furniture seller in that they never offer any type of promotion. We purchased a leather corner suite 2 years ago. The leather started to rub away. We contact sofa works within the 2 year guarantee period with the problem. They suggested we had spilt something on the sofa which caused discolouration.....nonsense. The leather/colouring was rubbing away. My mum paid over 3 grand for the paloma 2 seater and love chair and it was very poor quality. The delivery drivers knocked my mum's walls down in her garden and burst and scuffed all the chair and 2 seater. Even if they weren't burst they were of very poor quality and poor to even look at and not to the same standard as the one in store.
