Firstly I'd like to point out that recently I had purchased a rat from themselves, he was in a tank with another rat, but the first time I saw him the 2 rats were completely inactive and were simply looking very unhappy and bored. Because of this reason I felt the need to want to choose one of these as they didn't look happy and needed a loving home. The one that took my eye was a black and white male who was in the hammock looking very sorry for himself, he had a problem with his eye which... (read more)

Well what can I say. Pets at home is such a terrible place! It says they pride themselves on pets before profit. Really pets at home? Because I'm pretty sure the animals you put to sleep because the vet bill costs more than the animals proves that. Not all stores. But all managers don't care about the animals at all. And not all staff do either. And they definitely don't care about there customers. All they care about is money! Which is why they trick you into buying things that cost more... (read more)

I went to pets at home in Charlton, London to get my son some gold fish. We are novices to keeping fish so asked for advice and information. Two different staff on two different occasions were very unhelpful and dismissive. They were hurrying us along. The experience was very disconcerting. I just tried to buy some goldfish at one of their stores, to replace some that had been eaten by a mallard which took up residence in our pond over the winter. God Almighty.....after the shop person had waved a form longer than he was, asked me numerous illogical questions about the water volume of the pond, how long I had had it, number of fish currently in residence....he then demanded my home address and phone number!!!
It would be easier to get police clearance to work with vulnerable groups in the community than buy a couple of goldfish from this store.
Needless to say, I declined and have since sourced a supplier who does not require extraneous information to send you irrelevant junk mail, and will actually sell you what you wanted, for less money. AVOID these people if you want to save money, and your sanity.

Animals are bought in, 'bulk', treated as products and not living beings. The details of breeders that Pets at Home source individuals from are hidden from most employees.
