The overall rating for Kelham Hall, Newark, Notts is 3 stars due to the building being so beautiful - the perfect setting for a wedding. Having a wedding in the building is partly good value for money, as you'd perhaps expect to pay more, but in terms of the service provided by the staff at our wedding, it was not such good value for money.

The staff made a number of unprofessional errors, including making an error with our table plan, so that close family were at the back of the room, while work colleagues were at the front! They also left some packaging on the cake table, which we didn't notice until we got the photos.

I emailed them to explain what I thought went well and what I was disappointed with, especially in view of the money we paid; they did not respond.

The food was average and you have to order for more people than you have at your wedding to make sure there is enough! In terms of ensuring that things run smoothly for your wedding, they just did not seem all that organised or committed.

My husband and I didn't get a bite to eat, having allowed our guests to eat first, until we'd complained constantly for almost an hour at which point a tray of apparently partially frozen halved bog standard catering pork pies and quiche was served alongside a few sandwiches. Some ...
