I am really disappointed to read the reviews here! I am searching for a replacement filter for my Hoover Alyx and in the process came across this forum.
I've had my Hoover Alyx for 3 years now and it's been fantastic - in both a flat and a large carpeted terraced house. I don't have any pets, so maybe this is where most of the other reviewers have found the hoover to fall down, when collecting pet hair.
It's lightweight and easy to carry up stairs, I've found no problems with the lead and there is a yellow sticker to let you know you're close to the end of the plug lead and a red one to show you're really near the end, so stop pulling!
My mum has always had Dysons, but as I couldn't afford a compact Dyson, I saw this as a small alternative, as it was easily transportable and bagless. This was 3 years ago now though and technology may have moved on considerably.
Long may my Hoover Alyx carry on dust collecting! Sorry to hear about the bad experiences of others - hope you found suitable alternatives.
I have only rated 1 for service and support, as have never needed this - so cannot really comment.

My ALYX was absolute rubbish. Suction was very poor. I finally sent it to the tip when the exhaust filter wouldn't seat properly so it was recycling dust. Bought a morphy richards perform air model 71067 which works fine and actually has great suction. Hoover should be ashamed of themselves for selling such a poor product.

Hoover should be utterley ashamed of putting their name to this piece of junk. I had assumed I got a dud one, but the reviews here show that this is the norm - virtually no suction, the rigid part of the hose is too short for anyone over 5 feet tall, and don't even get me started on the design of the 'brush' head. This object has no redeeming features.

We bought this hoover alyx vaccuum cleaner in the mistaken belief that Hoover would be a good bet. The suction power is almost non-existant, the whole thing is awkward to use, and the hose has torn in four different places already, even though we have used it maybe five times. (We bought another electrolux as soon as we discovered how rubbish this one was...). I would have preferred to have given this machine no stars at all, but this does not seem to be possible.

Our Hoover Alyx is actually a 1192, but it is certainly no better. I read the first few reviews and concur with all the points made; I didn't see mention of another bugbear which is the strong smell of overheating plastic that accompanies the machine's use. A truly dreadful product that is inferior in performance to a brush and dustpan.

This Alyx TC1182 has to be the worst, or correct me if you know of a better one, vacuum cleaner ever produced. How can a company like Hoover sell such rubbish there is more force coming out at the back than there is suction.

The Hoover Alyx TC1182 is the worst vacuum cleaner I have ever owned. I sucks up nothing yet manages to fill the cylinder ever 5 minutes. It is really noisy, has a cord about a foot long so cannot be operated without an extension cord and the extended handle at full spread is suitable for only those under 4 foot tall. this review forced me to issue stars/. i would have preferred to give no stars. Complete waste of £50

I have been brought up on "Hoovers" so was a little surprised when I found how useless this Alyx TC1182 machine is. How can Hoover get away with this?

The Hoover Alyx TC1182 is the worst vacumn cleaner ever! I bought this based on it's small size and it's supposed ability to be ideal for pet owners. It has absolutely no suction, the filter has to be cleaned after each use for it to be effective and the pet hair attachment will only work if the filter has been cleaned. Cleaning the filter is a nightmare and takes over 24 hours to dry. I wish i had read other users reviews before purchasing and not listen to the sales assistant.

The cardboard box this Hoover Alyx came in was more useful.
No suction, noisy, filter clogs after 5 mins use, work of art getting to the filter. Wish I had never seen this machine - utterly useless and Hoover should be ashamed to put their name to this product.

The Hoover Alyx TC1182 is absolutely dreadful appliance, Hoover should be ashamed of themselves! Each time you switch the vacuum on to clean the room, you have to switch it off again to clean the filter. After about 6 months of light use, the motor of the Alyx decided to catch fire, this has now gone straight in the bin and I shall now be investing in a Dyson. As the saying goes, you buy cheap, you buy twice!

The Hoover Alyx TC1182 is a complete waste of money, it works for about 5 minutes and then needs the filter cleaned the filter has to be cleaned with water and left to dry for 24 hours, so to hoover a small room would take about 3 days.
it is a work of art getting the filter off.

I bought this Hoover Alyx TC1182 cleaner because it was recommended for pets. actually it is far worse than my old one. Avoid at all cost. Probably the first time I used it was the last time it actually worked properly

Only had my Hoover Alyx TC1182 for a little over a year and of that time it spent several months in the box as my house was being done up. I removed it from the property so problems were not due to the builder using it - he had his own vacuum cleaner. I have recently replaced with a miele vacuum cleaner which though quite expensive is so far much better value mainly beacuse it actually works!

This Hoover Alyx TC1182 had no durability at all in our case. After 4-5 times of light use everything broke off. Also the carrying handle doubles up as the leaver to empty the dust bag. Consequently when you carry it you will find the contents of the cylinder back on the floor?Sorry I bought it. Even more sorry I lost the receipt.
