Absolutely useless. A 2000watt vacuum cleaner should actually pick up dust and dirt I would have thought. Dust? Maybe. Dirt? No chance. Even something as small and light as a bit of fluff will be left behind. Anything it does pick up will be dumped in a nice straight line across your carpet on the backstroke. You have to clean the filter after every room (my home is in no way dirty!) I've resorted to scrubbing the carpets with the attachment, picking up by hand anything larger than a crumb. The whole point of having a vacuum cleaner is to clean one's home. Not really a tall order is it? So after taking delivery of a upright Hoover 2000w 'Power Edge Cleaner' with a cylonic dust Manager and state of the art 'Grooming Burush with Edge Cleaner', I naively assumed that my purchase would have satisfied that point. What I got was an increase (somehow?)and a chaotic distribution of dust around my home; it managed to give the impression that it's job was to clean - the result was quite the… Read Full Review

Have had this model for just under a year, found it great for picking up dirt that you cant see.
I agree the filters do need cleaning regularly which is a pain but compared to my old vacumn its fab. No bag to change and you can see through to see when it needs emptying which works out every couple of days because of the amount of dirt and hair it picks up.
Couldnt get on with the stairs stabliser so dont buy it just for that reason!
I have two dogs and find it great to pick up hairs. On the… Read Full Review

This appliance is a heap of rubbish. It is top heavy and falls over at the slightest provocation. The path that the dust takes is so badly designed that the machine clogs onf every other use. I am sorry I wasted time and money on this pathetic cleaner, I can only assume that it was designed by an imbecile… Read Full Review

The Hoover DM5530 is a really horrible machine. Main bone of contention is that the 'filters' get clogged up extremely quickly, and you have to use your fingers to clean one of them. Disgusting. Dust goes everywhere. Also, found machine heavy and cumbersome - not great for doing the stairs… Read Full Review

I found the Hoover DM5530 to be a really horrible machine. The main bone of contention is that the filters get clogged up too easily, even when you haven't covered a lot of carpet. They are also disgusting to clean - you have to have direct contact with the dust which goes everywhere. It's a heavy machine, and its wheels fall off.

I found the Hoover DM5530 to be a pure piece of garbage. I tried hard to give it a fair trial but I am sorry that I cannot see any good points. The wheels have now fallen off. The dust bags jams up all the time with a collection of impacted dust, not because it needs emptied. When I first bought it I called the makers who came out and replaced the parts to stop the blockages but it didn't work. It tips over and the brush for pet hair is weak and useless not turning as it should. A… Read Full Review

This claims to be excellent for pets and stairs. You can forget the pet hairs, it is easier to go over your carpet with a stiff brush. As for the stairs, after such a poor performance on the flat I don't want to risk the stairs.
This has to be the worst vacuums I have ever had. I bought it when my Dyson needed a service. It was so poor I just managed without it. It spent more time flat out on the floor being unblocked than it did upright.
When you ring hoover to list your complaints they… Read Full Review
