Started in 2006 with our first S60T. My wife loved driving with the confidence the turbo gives get on the highway we had to get the S80T in 2009. Car is awesome to drive and either has ever let us down. Ready to trade in for the 2012 in a few months. I've compared to the BMW and C-Class MB the S80T wins. When you add the fact when I compare the S80T and my Jeep Liberty insurance costs where I pay almost $1,500 more for insurance for the jeep there's no doubt in our house we feel the Volvo S80T gets...

I bought this S80T one year ago, at 60 000 miles, and it was a superb deal for the money. Every morning I enjoy entering in my car to drive to the office. Good engine, good ride, can be sporty too when above 5 000 rpm (but you have to disconnet the DSTC control). Well I could not have sk for more. ...

I owned my Volvo T6 for over 12 months and it didn't go wrong once. Ultra reliable and that with 120K miles on the clock. Since the I have had an MGZT 2.5 V6 (for 6 terrible weeks) and currently have an Hyundai Coupe V6 which I am going to sell soon to buy another S80 as I am now a convert. Probably will get the D5 for fuel econony....

I bought a Volvo S80 T-6 in Novembre 2005 because it was recommended to me by a freind. Since the day I have bought it, I have loved it and always looked forward to driving my car more and more. The S80 is an amazing car with exceptional ride comfort and performence. This car is also seen as a luxury saloon compared to the German barrier of Mercedes-Benz and BMW....

I was not a Volvo fan when I took my wife to see the XC90. She did not want to buy at that time but we saw a 2002 S80 T6, end of year deal. I drove it, love the horsepower, loved the ride, could not believe it was a Volvo. 0-6 is 6.5, top speed of 155? A Volvo? That power means the engine is not stressed too much on the interstate. Got a super deal, $10,000 off and I bought my first (and only to date) Volvo.
Car is two years old, still gets great comments from people who love the styling,...

Volvo S80-T6 has certainly good features such as engine, brakes and safety, it seems however, that the design of interior items, naming few: awkward radio controls, dashboard information hard to see in daylight, tiny lights indicating vents, and more were left without much attention. Reliability also totally unacceptable. For the price, Japanese cars are an order of magnitude better designed....

you need to get a new pair of glasses then you may see that the volvos interior is more user friendly then any of its competitors

I am in charge of a test fleet of cars and have 2 1999 S80s. The small 2.9L motor could definitely use a little help on the lower end, but the power seems to surge on once you turn around 3500RPM. The evasive manuevering ability of the vehicle was highlighted several times by responsive cornering, even over rough pavemant. The main recurring problem that I have with them is a faulty fuel management component, located on the air intake, that keeps failing; I guess running 24/7 for a few months straight...

My Volvo S80 T-6 has given 10,000 trouble free miles but that is to be expected. This is my first Volvo (s80 t6)based on the recommendation of my brother who drove his hard and long. Rarely do you read or write about a car if you love it, most postings are from folks naffed off at service or the performance of their vehicle. I owned an 89 Ford Sho and just loved it, that is rare. I will soon modify the performance of the car and hope it holds up. If so, I will be back for another. ...

I have never been a volvo man before. I saw the new Volvo S80 T-6 and fell in love. It's great-i have had it for a year and it's still great. It's fast and turns heads, it's TWIN light pressure TURBOS are smooth and fast!!
Like other reviews the little dash mounted screen does tell me on a regular basis about air bags etc. But still better to know then to be in an accident and get killed!!
The volvo name is great too. Professional, educated, middle class!! Can you get any better!!?!?!...

I agree with the earlier unfavorable reviews on the Volvo S80 T-6 executive car. This is a good try at competing in the luxury market by Volvo that fails due to the unreliable, unsafe problems in the electrical/computer module area. Our car has spent over 6 weeks at the dealer in our 25 months of ownership. My wife will not take it for more than short trips anymore. Problems include: doors, windows locking/unlocking without warning; inablity to unlock locked doors, engine quitting in intersections,...

On my Volvo S80 T-6, the electronic sensors have cried wolf so many times that the car has a "Needs Service" light on more often than not. Brakes have failed unexpectedly nearly breaking out our garage door as a result. Seals around moonroof have deteriorated so that the car sounds like the windows are down anytime the hard cover for the moonroof is open. Emission control light has malfunctioned at least 10 times requiring service. Biggest boo-boo happened when car went too far over a parking block,...

I find it interesting that this reviewer made the false claim that my review from Spring of 2000 was obviously written by a Volvo dealer, I've never even worked in the car industry, just a very pleased owner of a 2000 S80 T-6 that has been impeccably reliable. It now has over 30,000 trouble free miles and makes me feel special every time I slip into it for a drive. My previous car was a 1974 Volvo 144GL which was also very reliable, even as it aged. I expect the same from my S80.

Well, back to the critique of this review. I think this review is a farce based upon the impossible scenario that is presented. He claims he had $5000 worth of engine work done because the radiator hose was displaced into the timing belt when he pulled too far forward over a parking block. I just inspected my radiator hose and can see this scenario is impossible. My guess is that the reviewer is parroting the experience of another S80 owner that had their electronics vent tube foul their timing belt and resulting in expensive engine damage. Some S80's had a vent tube that extended too low, I've heard that dealers will trim to the proper length without charge. But it is impossible for this to be caused by a radiator hose and I know if I had a $5000 repair bill I would complain to Volvo and I would know what the cause of the problem was. The fact that Anosmic thinks the radiator hose was involved indicates this was not a first-hand experience.

As for his problems with deteriorating door and sunroof weather stripping, hello, he lives in New Mexico! Doesn't he know to put uv protectant on rubber seals? I live in Washington and my seals still look like new and have no problem keeping the car completely dry and comfortable through our worst rain storms. If you live in the desert, or at high altitudes, extra precautions must be taken. I suppose he is new to New Mexico and wasn't aware of these things which are true no matter what kind of car you drive.

As for the "needs service" false alarms, my car has done this five or six times but all you need to do to find out if it's a real problem is ignore it until the car is restarted, if the warning hasn't gone away it probably needs to be checked out. I've never felt this was an issue, cars didn't used to have these advanced warning systems so as long as the oil pressure, temperature and fluids are normal, it doesn't bother me the few times it has happened as it resets itself the next time I drive it.

It's ironic, the person who falsely accuses me of being a Volvo dealer proceeds to relay a story that could not have come from a first-hand experience.

I could not disagree more with this review.
I leased a 2000 S-80 T6 for 3 years and I must admit that it was the best handling car I have ever owned.
The braking was superb, the turbos never gave us any problems and the sun roof always worked well+ Great gas mileage.
The only problems we had were with the 6-changer in-dash CD player...It would periodically eat the CD's and stop working, this required the total replacement of the radio unit, two times...under warranty.
We had a front end problem with the A-frames and ball joints which required the replacement of both sides...under warranty.
The only thing I can say about this reviewer is that he must have gotten a lemon, which happens, even in the best of cars.
I would lease another one.

The S80 T6 is Volvo's first world class effort. The design is bristling with fresh thinking, unfortunately the execution falls far short of the mark.. This is the most unreliable car that I've ever owned, and certainly the worst of the 20 Volvos I've owned through the years. Every time I get in this car something else malfunctions to the point I'm fearful to drive anywhere with my family. You don't need to pay this kind of money for dreadful reliability. If you're considering this car, do yourself...

I agree with your comment about poor reliability. I am on my second S80, T-6. After being towed 3 times with the first I worked out a deal with my dealer to trade it for another hoping I got unlucky on the first......wrong....on the hook again.

I like the way the Volvo S80 looks and drives a lot. There are cars that provide a more luxurious ride, cars that have sportier handling, cars that are a bit quicker, but the Volvo S80 blends all these qualities in harmony, creating a general purpose vehicle that is hard to beat if you are looking for a sedan that offers safety, value, comfort, style and performance.
The S80 is loaded with unobtrusive technology. In terms of safety, I value the full complement of dual-sensitivity air bags....

This person is obviously an owner of a Volvo dealership. Do yourself a favor if you are considering this car and peruse websites with owner comments about reliability.

I agree with this review.
I own a 2000 S80 T-6 and had electronic problems in my first year i.e. burgular alarm sensor gave false alarms. Took 4 trips to correct problem. Since then it has been trouble free. Overall I am very pleased with the car after 3 years. Great performance and comfort. Looks great. Feel safe on ice covered roads.

My T6 has now covered 112,353mls, and having been in the motor trade for over 20 years I have driven most cars, new and old, and I can tell you now that this car is unsurpassed in looks (black/privacy glass/chrome alloys) and performance in its class. It chases anything and stays with them. Only thing i'm about to better on it, are the brakes...I need some that work!! At 46 im still cruising.
