nedeed a car urgently as my Xsara diesel blew up just before I went on holiday. was looking for another diesel as I do a lot of miles and had sights on a peugeot 106 1.4 but a short drive in a car with no PAS ruled that out. the guy selling the peugeot had a number of cars and I stumbled across a 1.6 vtr with 68000 miles with new tyres and a cambelt replacement at 60500. I have had 3 Saxo VTR's now, so it's fair to say I know a fair bit about them. Every Saxo I've had is great to drive, handles very well, has good acceleration and can achieve around 36-40mpg when driven normally. The interior is fairly cheap, and the boot is small but it's what you expect from an older Citroen really. The engine when standard makes a lovely roar without the need for silly induction kits or big exhausts, the car really puts a smile on your face when in the country. It is also... (read more)

That is clearly meant to be £780. NOT £78.
My first year on a VTR was £2200. Second year was £1200. Third year is now £750.
I've had zero accidents & have zero points. No way is a 17 year old getting insured for £75. Blatent Bull!
Besides, 17 year old in a saxo = written off in its first year and higher premiums for us all! Standard.

I had a 1999T Reg Saxo VTR until August 2004 when I traded it in for my current car, a Citroen C3 Pluriel, which has given me nothing but gearbox trouble. I bought this car on a whim and absolutely hate it. So much so that I am seriously considering looking to find a late model (2003) Saxo VTR to replace it...A C2 VTR isn't the same!

Fun with some power and sharp handling, also Good Looking and Cheap to run! Responsive handling with little body roll coupled with a light chassis and a 1.6 litre v8 (0-60 9.6sc) gives this car a very sporty feel, this makes for a fun drive and can hold its own even against larger car 1.8s and the odd Scooby around back roads. The main downside of this car is that they are generally driven by 17 year old chavs draped in silver and sovereign rings and in burberry colours who spend every penny they have on modifying it to be louder to annoy everyone who lives round them - this is not what all saxo drivers are like!

My son's just gone and got a 2003 Saxo VTR. I did always like the idea of French hot-hatches: small, simple but oh so good fun, and I've driven many Renaultsports, Peugeots and Citroens which live up to that, while also living up to expectations of flimsy quality and questionable reliability. The Saxo is based on the 106 and so by all accounts its certainly outdated by modern standards, but thats not to say its a bad car.
Like the other French stablemates, trim quality is nothing short of...
