Good Points: Good reach.
Bad Points: Goes blunt easily.
General comments: My Black & Decker GT524 520w Electric Hedge Trimmer has a good reach, which in my case was the reason for purchase. However, it is poor overall. Blade sharpness means it's almost useless now (about 18months after buying), to puny for my hawthorn hedge really, once blunted a bit.

The Black & Decker GT524 is good for longer hedges. Needs a cable 'break' near the trimmer as in previous B&D models. If you cut the mains cable near the trimmer, you need to dismantle the whole trimmer to change the cable. Better to buy a proper weatherproofcable 'break' and insert it near the trimmer if this happens then. Mine has stopped working after I dismantled it.

I agree with Andrew Price! The Black & Decker GT524 520w Electric Hedge Trimmer is the worst trimmer I've ever used.

I've been using my B&D GT524 hedgetrimmer for over 3 years and all it's cost me in maintenance is £8.50 this year for new brushes for the motor. It does a great job - powerful, low vibration, very useful design with the dual-position handle goving extra reach. I have not had problems with jamming as described in an earlier review.

I bought the Black & Decker GT524 520w electric hedge trimmer because I needed something powerful, that was able to cut through thick branches and could be used on a variety of hedges.
I have not been disappointed with my purchase.
This hedge trimmer is able to cut through branches nearly an inch thick, and it was very useful in trimming back severely overgrown hedges, including conifer, privet and box.
The extending handle is very useful for reaching tall or wide hedges.
I have had ...

I tried the Black & Decker GT524 hedge trimmer on all sorts of hedges. It was the most frustrating gardening tool I have bought. It jambs on almost all types of growth. The worst hedge trimmer I have ever bought and I have been gardening for over forty years. A complete waste of money.
