“Happy me!”

Written on: 16/01/2016 by SedberghDave (1 review written)

Been a member of A.R for some time and not needed to call anyone out until, Oh no, flat tyre. Normally I'd change the wheel myself but being parked on gravel and also on quite a slope, I phoned for help. Within 30 minutes, a garage had arrived, the car was up on a strong jack, supplied by the repairer and he was waiting for the key for the locking wheel nuts. Here and gone in less than 5 minutes and very friendly too from my initial phone call to the mechanic leaving. Good prices for full cover… Read Full Review

“I feel stitched up by Autonational rescue”

Written on: 15/01/2016 by BarryLShaw (1 review written)

After buying a new car which came with a one year breakdown cover we tried to get a refund on our autonational rescue policy but only a credit note for £31.24 to be used at a later date was issued.. Fast forward one year and with credit note in hand I checked the net for prices £29 being the cheapest company with autonational rescue coming in at £53.46 (Bare with me) So 53.46 minus 31.24 = £22.22 so still a few pounds cheaper.. I rang yesterday and they had to discuss options with a… Read Full Review

“Great service”

Written on: 27/09/2015 by AmberD95 (1 review written)

I broke down for the second time in a few months last night so called ANR, the lady on the phone was lovely and helpful; although it took a little over two hours for recovery to come i was called on several occasions with updates and them checking that everything was okay for me, all of the staff were very friendly and helpful including the man who brought myself and my car home. Very pleased this time as last time i had a few issues getting the service from them :)… Read Full Review

“Emergency Call Out - Control Room Says No Policy In Force”

Written on: 12/09/2015 by Emily341 (1 review written)

So we have used Autonational for 2 years, this year we called them with an emergency, well my wife did. Control room says no valid policy - eh what? I called their customer services, yes policy is in force, try again. Call's up my wife, try again with policy number..... No way, don't recognise policy number, sorry, goodbye. I call up customer services again, recheck, all ok. I became annoyed, said they can call her and arrange recovery, customer services agreed and car recovered. All's well… Read Full Review

“Top Marks to Autonational Rescue!”

Written on: 09/07/2015 by Mckenziec185 (1 review written)

Returning from a hospital appointment, I pulled into a garden centre to pick up a couple of items. Was only 15 minutes before I went back to the car which wouldn't then start. Rang my husband who came out to me and checked the usual common problems but he couldn't get the car going so had to ring ANR for help. I have never called out a breakdown service in the seven years I have been driving so did so with some trepidation. The young lady on the phone was very courteous and took all… Read Full Review

“Fast!”

Written on: 04/07/2015 by 433Patterson (1 review written)

Car wouldn't start. Plenty of fuel; good battery. Car only 3 years old. I made ONE phone call, amd within an hour (I had told them it was not urgent because we have two cars), a man arrives, started the car and, more importantly, explained why it wouldn't start and told me what to do if it happened again. Just brilliant from top to bottom. Only oprobel I currently have is that I simply cannot get the INTERNATIONAL part to deal with my request for European cover for my hols! No doubt I… Read Full Review

I would have thought they only let you sort it if you paid an inflated price for the product as this is the way they seem to work... Bad company beware

“Car damaged by them”

Written on: 09/06/2015 by 351McCann (1 review written)

Car developed a fault which required it to be towed to nearest garage, no problem, they sent a truck out within a couple of hours. The guy that turned up was not a full time mechanic but a fire fighter doing this on the side. When the car arrived at the garage the mechanic there phoned to inform us that the tow truck guy had attached the towing straps to the wrong place under the vehicle causing the suspension to collapse which would cost over £200 to repair. Autonational Rescue informed me to… Read Full Review

“Refused to attend”

Written on: 28/05/2015 by 374Lamont (1 review written)

I locked my keys, purse bag in my car tonight (not clever I know) 20 miles away from home, on my own, borrowed someone's mobile phone to call auto national breakdown. I was told that this wasn't covered under my policy, I asked if I could add this to my policy but was told that 'no this wasn't 't possible' but they could give me the numbers of breakdown services in the area. But you're a breakdown service and Im a member. I then got cut off and the friendly stranger wanted their mobile phone… Read Full Review

“hidden minuses”

Written on: 27/04/2015 by uyO'Reilly80 (1 review written)

I have been using Autonational cover for ten years plus and until recently I would have given a rating of 5 stars. The reason I have dropped to 3 is due to the error that occurred when I renewed my cover. I changed my vehicle and notified Autonational immediately. Relevant, amended paperwork arrived. A month passed and I was due to renew cover. Last year it was £42 and this year I was being asked for £64.I had 2 call outs for my old car over the last year and this is what they were basing it… Read Full Review

“nice breakdown, but deceptive breakdown renewal letter”

Written on: 09/03/2015 by 449Ingram (1 review written)

received letter from above about renewing my breakdown cover, but because it's so confusing, an elderly or slightly infirm member would have ignored it and ended up renewing without realising it. Should just end at the end of the renewal, and if no contact then that's the end, full stop. Disgusted, as this is another UK ripoff which spoils a very cheap breakdown service, but that's the american way that's taking over… Read Full Review

Called them only to be told we will only take you to a garage will not come out and pump up the tyres, we explained we had hit a pot hole which has caused rapid deflation if they take it to a garage then I would think this is a extra cost on me! “At my home within an hour”

Written on: 03/11/2014 by Debbisc (1 review written)

Having read some of the other reviews, I was surprised, as I have just used this service, at home when my car wouldn't start. I fully expected to be down the list of priorities, but I had a confirmation text within 20 minutes of calling Autonational Rescue confirming who was coming to my rescue, and when. They were with me in just a little over an hour of making my call. They were friendly, kind, courteous, knowledgeable. They couldn't fix the car at the roadside and were happy to take the car… Read Full Review

“THREE HOUR WAIT !!!!!! ”

Written on: 09/09/2014 by Glenninlowdhamnotts (1 review written)

I've been with Autonational Rescue for years, have 2 vehicles on cover with them and until last week had not needed to seek roadside assistance in recent years. I chose Autonational Rescue based on price, but in future I need to pay more attention to quality of service, rather than price. There is a saying, ".... You get what you pay for"..... On Monday 1st September 2014, we set off in our Land Rover Discovery 4 towing our caravan, from Lowdham, Notts towards Derbyshire. We have Total… Read Full Review

“3 hour wait with disabled children. 25 mins to answer...”

Written on: 30/08/2014 by chriswebb (1 review written)

I have used the company in the past and I see that they were in the top 3 motor rescue companies in 2013. However, be warned that whatever they have done since then has meant that they are now amongst the worst. Firstly it took 25 minutes for them to actually answer the phone to my wife. They were told that there were 2 disabled children, one a type 1 diabetic needing insulin. They said they would text a time straight away. 30 minutes later my wife had to ring back to remind them. She then… Read Full Review

“Could not renew my membership!”

Written on: 07/08/2014 by vancat85 (2 reviews written)

I've been a member of Autonational for a year, and have never had to use their services thankfully, but have just wasted half an hour, entering and re-entering my membership number and postcode on their web site; in a vain attempt to renew my membership! Eventually I gave up, and took out a breakdown recovery policy with StartRescue.co.uk, who seem to have good reviews and certainly a better web site!… Read Full Review

John Richards's Response to vancat85's Review

Written on: 02/05/2015

Be warned - those good reviews for StartRescue are to be found reviews. When you take out a policy with SR you are guided staight away to this site to give a review. Now how on Earth can any worthwhile review of service be given when you have just joined and have no experience of the service they deliver when you ,most need it - when your car's broken down in the rain in the middle of nowhere. Hence they get lots of 5 star reviews therein. Plus that site does not (unlike this website) permit you to click on low 1, 2 and 3 ratings to see people's complaints - instead you have to trawl through over 4,800 reviews one-by-one. From what I have seen, when people have actually called StartRescue for help the results have been utterly abysmal. Do more research on a trusted review website such as this first.

My comments herein have been edited by the admin which is why the opening sentence seems not to make sense. It actually gave the URL of a website but essentially the issue is that these companies refer you to their preferred review website rather than a truly independent one.

“Home rescue”

Written on: 08/07/2014 by 376King (1 review written)

If you want to report a home breakdown, you have to wait ages (with blaring music) to get put through to an operator. I was then told that the engineer would be with me within an hour. 5 minutes later, an automated phone call confirming he would arrive within the specified time. shortly afterwards, another phone call informing me of the new time - 1 hour and a half later. Appointed time - no engineer. Phoned NR again - long wait & told engineer would be with me within 10 minutes. Over 3 hours… Read Full Review

“Appalling service”

My daughter and 3 young friends were left stranded at the side of the motorway for hours and the Autonational Rescue Call Centre staff showed absolutely no urgency in getting anyone out to them. When a mechanic did attend almost 2 hours later he was unsympathetic and the tortuous carriage home via different carriers was the subject of a Complaint. Avoid… Read Full Review
