The Cobra Merlin is an excellent bit of kit. Good clarity, easy to use, cheap enough, good solid construction. Only gen 1 that i purchased but it easily spots to 100 yards plus and makes shot easy out to 50 yards for airgun use, this unit could be used easy enough for rimfire and a couple of laser illuminators to increse range out to 150 yards with no trouble. Slight fish eye but the centre view iss perfect. Wouldnt recommend as a handheld monocular only as a weapon sight add on unit, being only 1x mag it is quite difficult to use for spotting. DSA that came with the unit is sturdy and faultless, easy to use and set up, a must for those wishing to try nightvision with a tight budget.

With a 100w illuminator, this ad on unit is as good as it gets, it was purchased in July 06. It has given hours of trouble free use. It will spot out to over 100m but for rimfire use 80m is fine, the darker the night the better though.
I would highly recommend this unit as it will fit any rifle scope with a parallax adjust and comes with a set of rings to fit any scope.
It has a clamping system that fastens the unit to the scope so it can't fall off, like some other expensive model ad on's do. ...
