We have 2 accounts including my partner's for last 3 years. I sold funds and did not receive payment and after many calls, finally I got the credit after 32 days. During this time, I lost opportunity to invest and lost over £600. Now looking out for another firm - any suggestions from experience?

In July 2009 they introduced an annual fee of £40 without telling me. The message in the account doesn't help, if you buy shares and keep them there for a long time, so you hardly log in.
That was a rip-off strategy: Offer a free account and when you have enough people, introduce a annual fee which most people will pay, because they don't know about the change. They didn't want to inform the customers in a proper way, using email, postal address or phone number, which everyone has to prov ...- Read Guest's review (134 words)

I decided to close my account with Self Trade because of the introduction of an annual charge. To be honest as their was little activity on my account I wouldn't be much of a loss. However, they seem desperate to keep me; after months of aggro I still do not have all my share certificates and they have not returned the cash that was in my account. In fact they lifted £70 from it a couple of days ago. No, they didn't tell me they were doing it!
Compared to the Barclays account that my s ...- Read Guest's review (107 words)

Self Trade introduced 40 pounds fee on execution only account with no adequate information about the changes. Phoned them and they informed me that they delivered the message to my online account with them and per their terms and conditions that is sufficient. Now I am aware that other people also received important communications from them in that way. Do not trust them and am closing my account with them. Will also be pursuing them with the ombudsman/.- Read Guest's review (77 words)

Self Trade is the MOST unreliable site I have ever used. Endless notes on the frontpage. They were down the other day due to a power failure!
I lost £12k on RBS by not being able to sell out - site down and phone lines insufficient.
Have taken whole portfolio out - losing the tax benes of the ISAs - just to get away from this shower.- Read Guest's review (68 words)

30 july, one more breakdown!!
31 july, 'power outage' that now has the appearance of a substantial system failure.
Selftrade say service is now back to normal. They are in some other world!
My portfolio, message board, and watchlist are nearly useless. The watchlist is completely haywire, and Selftrade are inaccessible !
When you get through by phone you get rubbished by people who rabbit on.
Selftrade used to give a wonderful service, with an unbelievably good website.
But since last autumn the ...- Read Guest's review (119 words)

Terrible service from self trade - the site was down a few days ago for 3 hours and is down today 30/7 from 9am, still down at 10am with the message 'We have a major power outage. We are working to recover our service. Please check our website for updates.'
They don't answer the phone or respond to messages.
They charge one of the highest rates £12.5 per trade and £35 + VAT annual fee.
Avoid at all costs.

I've given Self Trade a 1 out of 10 because at least I've been able to withdraw all my money. They've introduced an annual charge starting on 1/7/09 but you can't get through on the phone. They don't read the messages you send them via the online messaging facility. I've had to write them to tell them to read my messages. I've been unable to place trades by telephone even, before 4.30pm. The site looks good, but features like Stop-loss randomly don't work, and people who promise to phone back wi ...- Read BeinnEddra's review (146 words)

I have been a member of Selftrade for many years, in the past they have brought in fees for not trading which have cost me money as i have waited for my penny shares to show a profit. Now i will be paying again just for being a member. My portfolio is small, some of my share values will not cover the amount being asked for in July. Charging £12.50 per trade allows ordinary people to enjoy being a trader this management charge will cause people to withdraw there membership and in the long ...- Read baldock's review (151 words)

I signed up with Self Trade because I wanted a low cost broker option without an annual charge or inactivity fee (I'm a private individual who wanted to invest on an occasional basis). Self Trade seemed to offer all this and more through a range of accounts and what looked to me to be a good website. However several times in the recent turbulance they have gone offline or the website has crawled to a snails pace as it struggles to cope with a relatively small demand level. Then you have the fall ...- Read Guest's review (172 words)

Like others, I have been with self trade for over 5 years (from Comdirect to Squaregain to now). Sadly, this once good broker has become a lame duck. By far one of the worst companies for customer service and the platform sucks. It's slow, it freezes and offers very limiteded functionality. To trump it all, they just raised prices by over 25%! I have now closed my account.
Avoid these clowns at all cost!!- Read Guest's review (105 words)

I have been a loyal customer of selftrade from comdirect to squaregain to the current selftrade period. In the last 18 months to May 2009, Selftrade service have deteriotated to the level that I am forced to looking for a new execution stockbrokers.

SelfTrade trys to offer a good service, however they seem to be suffering from technical problems, I have over £100k invested with them, but like others in these reviews I have missed the opertunity to make money due to the system problems and also the limits imposed by Selftrade, for instance the maximum you can trade electronically with ACU was 100'000 shares when they were 9.87 but when they reached 11 I could only sell 50'000 shares, and as I hold 300'000 this would take 6 trades at ...- Read andymcj's review (194 words)

Stinks....I have been an account holder for 3 years. Systems regularly freezes up (last time cost me £7k as I couldn't sell down some RBS shares!!!)
