We inherited an ADT alarm system for the retail business we bought. With the the infrastructure already in place (Sensors, wiring, alarm system etc) we felt little option but to stick with them. After arranging for the details to be transferred to our name we were shocked when the rep billed us roughly £400 for the process. “ADT useless alarm”

I was burgled twice despite setting my ADT alarm. Contacted Adt and discovered my alarm had been tampered with during first break in and that the front door sensor had not worked for 5 months and to top it all off I was charged £15 phone charges for last month and tried to prevent this with no solution . After about 15 calls to ADT I was given a new phone number for Adt to update my alarm. “£324/hr call out charge for faults”

Just paid £324/hr for a line fault on our alarm. Outraged & disgusted. ADT advertise their alarms at £99, but don't advertise their call out charges. I'd recommend avoiding them at all costs and using someone else. They are not interested in you once you've had the alarm installed. Nice smiles when selling their equipment to you, then it all changes when they have you on a contract. Avoid at all costs, ADT are possibly the worst company I've ever dealt with… Read Full Review

“not reliable at all ”

since my alarm insulted, it alarms every time I left home without any reason. I need to go back and turn it off each day, even the engineer who visited it cant fix it. Customer support number ( 800.588.2159) on website doesn't work. There are lots of bad reviews even in their Facebook page and they dont pay any attention. “Ignore cancellation instructions.”

I am 95. Its a long story but was an emergency admittance to hospital but now too frail and so I'm in a Home. Sad yes. But what's worse I cancelled contract over phone. And I wrote but they ignore instructions and demanded oayment in 7 days ! I have had same alarm over 30 years. ADT took over contract at least 25 years ago. Once you get your phone bill, wow, the once a day premium rate number turns out to be 5 or 6 calls, When you go out of contract you will find out your system is so old there are no spares, call the customer service department that never calls back, got a salesman to come out and they also coulnt be bothered to call bak… Read Full Review

“Beware exhorbitant charges”

Had a new door fitted and the sensor had to be removed and fitted on the new door frame. Engineer came and it took him a couple of minutes to remove the sensor. Returned the following day and he took him five or so minutes to fit the sensor and text it. Received £110 charge for the first visit and £130 charge for the second. A total of £240 for less than 10 minutes work. Apparently, £100 is their minimum call out charge. Ridiculous! That is a third of the cost of the new front door!… Read Full Review

“Misleading Sales Person but ok system upto now”

I had a knock on the door one late afternoon to a sales person from ADT, he was offering a reduced rate installation for their alarm system with a monitoring service for only £5 per month for 2 years. I had an ADT system installed in 2007 and it was working fine. I decided after a few years to explore the possibility of upgrading the system to one where contacts will be called if my alarm went off and I was not around. The ADT advisor came round late 2012 and after several months delay (because my application forms were redirected by the company to the wrong person!) My mother-in-law, who is 82 years old, bought the ADT alarm system around 10 months ago. She was having a new front door fitted and rang ADT to remove the sensor on the door frame and replace once the new door had been fitted. No mention was made re. a charge but she has received an invoice for over £100, for five minutes work. I bought a property 18 months ago that has an ADT system - due to the high charges of reconnecting the monitored service I decided to use it as a bells only system. Now however the battery has failed and for some reason this triggered the old monitoring system via my telephone line as it apparently has not been disconnected correctly. Had 2 sales people knock on our door offering us the alarm system at a reduced rate. We were told that it would be a one year contract, when in fact it was 3 years!!! My fault for not reading it in more detail, but it was completely miss sold to us and they asked us to sign there and then. Called to talk to someone and was left on hold for 10 mins and then when someone finally answered they put me on hold for a further 10 mins and then hung up on me before dealing with my issue. They supplied this at a fraction of the cost of the system supplied below, and the quality of the images and equipment is far superior. Stay clear. I cancelled my contract (out of the initial contract period) due to a not being able to use the system for over a year due to a problem that they wouldn't come out & sort & they are still trying to invoice me & sending threatening letters 9 months later. I am shocked that the police recommend ADT. Following a burglary we had ADT install a burglar and fire alarm. Six months later the system is still not correctly installed, particularly the latter. Having been away twice in the first couple of months the fire alarm kept going off so we finally had it disconnected so that we would not be charged for fire brigade call-outs. “Worst Customer Service”

I used ADT for the security system in my home. Make sure you read full contract due to hidden terms not explained when you purchase system. Also, customer service has no follow through, nor do they admit to their own mistakes. Since I sold my home I have had nothing but a nightmare with ADT.
