I really hesitated to write in a review on that awful alarm system that is ADT. However, when I saw that they had obvious fake 5 star reviews, I just couldn't resist the urge to say a bit more about it. This alarm system is utter ........ ! i took a contract out with adt on the 24 of April the salesman came out and took a payment 149.00 for adt smoke so after a week it came and i had to wait for the 7 of may to have it install so the 7 of may came which is today and the man took box and open it to set the alarm up and within 10 minutes he told me he couldn't do it cause the sim card was missing which send them a signal so he rang adt to re book me in for next week which was long so he went with the alarm kit as he sending me a... Was misold a contract, all the sales woman wanted is a quick sale, didnt care about the fact that i am a single mother with not a lot of money, practically forced me into signing the agreement. was told the first three months were free and then i could call up and cancel the contract no worries. after three months called and tried to cancel, of course they would not let me. yes, i should have read the small print but the fact is / was that the sales woman bulldozed me into signing a security... This is the second ADT alarm we have fitted to the properties we have owned, although the product is very reliable, the after sales support is appalling. For the third year on the trot we have had to call ADT to request a routine service is performed on our system, to cap it all off the engineer didn’t turn up or let alone call on the date we waited in for. We had an alarm fitted by ADT for our company. We told the sales adviser we would only be in the property for 6 months so wanted a short contract. We signed a contract confirming we would only pay for the yearly maintenance fee - £285+vat. The contract clearly states this. ADT then failed to bring the correct parts for 4 different engineer visits. As my alarm system stopped working yesterday I called ADT. They asked for my telephone number and said I would receive a callback. No callback. At 9.00pm last night a suspicious looking character with his face half covered by a hat & carrying a rucksack knocked at my door. The serviceman called to ask if he could come early, which was nice instead of just turning up and maybe finding us not there. When I opened the door the first thing he did was show me his card. His name is Mick Micklethwaite. He was very polite, efficient and helpful, particularly in respect of a portable alarm which I did not know existed in the house. (read more)

I have just moved into a rental home, and travel a lot for business. At my home in Australia, we have been burgled 3 times, and nothing has been taken due to a good monitored alarm system. I am anxious to have the same here in the UK, however it seems that this os too hard. This was explained to the salesman a week prior to a 2 week trip, and I was assured an engineer would call me and this would get sorted. I have had ADT Alarms and CCTV for some years now and until recently been pleased with the service and support. However in the last 18 months or so faults are taking much longer to fix. ADT constantly cancel the appointments and appear to have insufficient engineers to actually attend call outs. We have been used to having an alarm system ever since i can remember. We have always had an alarm that wasnt monitored ie. bell used to ring if alarm went off. We were broken into and the policeman who came to visit us recomended ADT as his mother had been using them for years. I had my monitored ADT alarm system fitted in 2009. I had a "platinum" service agreement costing £28/month. When the alarm failed in November 2012, I phoned on a Friday to ask if an engineer could fix it. They sent someone on the Saturday, then sent me an invoice for £70, saying my contract didn't cover call-outs at weekends, even though I didn't call them at a weekend. I contacted their sales team to see how much it would be as I saw an advert for a security system for my home all installed for £99. My partner and I recently moved into a property which was already quipped with an ADT alarm. For ease I thought I would contact ADT and have the alarm reactivated. The salesman's speech was really good, and after about half an hour - when we finally bought in, he started talking about the extra costs that we will need to bear if we want this and that. We have paid for a service "immediate police response" and I am trying to find out if that has been set up yet as I know about two months after we joined them it still wasn't set up. I had been an ADT client for approximately 15yrs. On the whole, they have been very good. Over the last two/three years they have slowly changed the way they deal with customers. As a current customer I have had to query invoices that came through for an engineer visit or to change a battery which they consistently keep changing even though they are 'supposed' to last more than one year! Under no circumstances would I recommend ADTHome Alarms. Their service is terrible. They continually make promises that they don't keep eg yes we will call to reset your alarm at a time convenient to you -RUBBISH I LEFT WORK EARLY AND WAITED IN FOR 3 CONSECUTIVE EVENINGS . ADT have been consistently dishonest and unhelpful throughout my time with them. Their alarm has been faulty much of the time, they do not provide the servicing they contract to provide, they charge extra for everythin including fault finding visits. We set up a new business and needed the existing alarm to be updated which was from ADT. So we contacted them via telephone. And a sales person came explained that it was one year contract. I was not at the new premises when they came to look at the alarm and my wife was there. The sales person for ADT asked my wife to sign some paper work. Since I cancelled the contract its 5th week and I did not receive my payment even followed the refund team, cancellation team, accounts department also lodged a complaint. But all efforts in vain. I have to contact financial ombudsmen to claim my money with compensation. While chasing the right person, over phone assistants have no professional training to deal such queries. We just cancel our ADT and switched to a cellular GSM security alarm system from ProEPP.com. We also got a separated wireless indoor siren. This system is so far the best to my knowledge. All the protection is under our own control. We can easily call the alarm system, listen in via the build-in mic, arm, or disarm if necessary. As a bonus, the alarm host can serve as a home phone. My father is elderly, ill and living on a pension which is insufficient to cover the costs of his care. There is always someone in the house, so we decided ADT was a cost that could be saved. So the direct debit was cancelled. The result of this was that the minute the last payment ran out, alarm then went off and wouldn't stop until an engineer from ADT came and disconnected it. ADT has left my home unsecured for 5 days and is unable to have someone here to repair their system for another 5 days. According to them, there are no technicians in the area that can service their system. So I as the customer, has to deal with an inoperable alarm system. I have never experienced such total incompetence as that shown by ADT! Throughout my dealings with them I found it almost impossible to talk to anyone helpful at HQ and when I left voicemail messages my calls were never returned. I got this system installed over six years ago knowing nothing about such alarm devices. It has been an extraordinary waste of money. If the alarm is triggered the company generally takes 12-24 hrs to inform you by phone. A friend set off the panic alarm and we were rung several hours later to tell us that it had gone off, in my dream world I assumed that if one pressed the panic button there might have been a faster response. We have been with ADT for about 9 months and the service has been fine. No real problems for them or us. However, I just took a job abroad and now have to cancel the contract as we are selling the house. Granted, we had an 18 month contract, but we are not shifting providers, we are shifting countries. Yes a terrible experience. I got my alarm via another provider who had put alarms on the local town hall and police station. I live in Cheshire and used a company called CJ Security Systems to do my install in the end. Excellent customer service, great advice, very quick and nothing has been too much trouble.
I would recommend them if your in the Cheshire area, not sure if they travel.

Nothing but endless problems, wrong sensors fitted, false alarms, faults etc etc. Engineers never show up or call as promised, I always end up chasing them yet i get charged every call out to fix their shoddy system. you now have to book in engineers to visit you within a certain time period, they are not on call as they should be 24/7. Wish I'd seen some of this before signing up but it's been not stop hassle since we first decided to use them. I could handle the fragile key fobs, even when they replaced a faulty pet alarm with a regular one which, obviously went off, but when we had the alarm go off with my wife and baby girl stuck outside, promised quick responses and call backs came to nothing and even our compaints have been completely ignored. I don't really write reviews, but I am so disappointed how a company could use its international label to trick people into signing lengthy contracts with very poor delivery and customer service that I decided to write this. My alarm company was taken over by adt I have had nothing but trouble since not to mention it has gone up by hundred pounds in 3 years! The latest is they have an automated system that rings your home when your alarm goes off (you could not make this up) in my case it got my answer phone and presumed it had reached me! I have had an ADT security system installed in my property for 5 years. I have had the odd activation which has been rectified by the engineers within the 4 hour call out time specified in the contract. The call centre staff are always polite and helpfull. ADT have the contract for where i work (and have for about 25 years) and as a keyholder, when i am called out for the alarm going off at work they have always treat me the same as they do for my own home. This is further to our conversation this morning, following my call on 16th of April Reason for cancellation: 1. ADT failed to install the instrument on 16th of April as promised. 2. Poor customer service 3. Sent the wrong item according to the person Christopher who came for installation on 16th. 4. We took over a contract when we moved in to our home in 2006. The keypad is ancient, I was quoted some unreasonable figure to replace and modernise which I declined. The engineer explained that although it was sufficient it might lead to problems with the younger generation of engineers. Moving house soon and called ADT to notify them. I would have to incur a charge for the next 2.5years as I had apparently signed a 3 year contract. Have had my monitered alarm for 12 or more years. Originally with BT, with Redcare. In 2008 decided to reduce my monthly payment by having Redcare disconnected. At no time was I aware that they also disconnected the monitoring system. This was discovered during my latest service visit. Needed to bulk up security at home looked into getting an alarm fitted ADT worked out cheaper up front but more in the long run, I was happy enough with this as it is a well known brand and monitored 24/7.
