Good Points: This hotel has good access to what used to be West Berlin and the sights. Taxis are outside and you have the choice of them or walk just down the road to a subway which serves all of Berlin.

Bad Points: Somewhat austere even though it is in the west end.

General comments: We picked Hotel Berlin after a number of years staying east of the Brandenburg Gate. We have visited Berlin on many occasion both pre Wallfall and Post Wallfall and tried different hotels for differing reasons. The Berlin came up on our internet research when we were looking for a good quality hotel near Ka De We and various sights we had not seen. We visit in December for the Christmas Markets and I come during the year on journalist duties so we need a quality hotel. The breakfasts are of high standard and one may eat as much as anyone would want. The bedrooms are large and warm, well furnished and we had a balcony. We had many reasons to eat out in the evenings but took time to try one evening to assess the hotel menu and the quality of food. We found it very good and served by very friendly staff. The open bar in the "corridor" takes a bit of time to get used to and it certainly needs more seating, don't leave your seat when you get one or someone will leap in. We would certainly stay there again since it is value for money.

I guess then, that I was a bit of an anomaly staying there and just about the only English speaker staying at the time, much to the dismay of my fellow, grandiose guests. The scenario became even more incongruous at breakf ...
