Absolutely the worst car that I have ever owned. Bought used from the dealer with 60k on the clock. In 4 months, the turbo has failed, the clutch has failed, the parking brake has failed and the dashboard squeaks like a take-away kebab box.
The car is prone to stalling, has horrendous turbo lag making pulling out of busy junctions almost dangerous. It drinks oil like a fish and has an incredibly boring driving experience.
You can't get children out of the rear doors when it is raining, they'll get soaked. I have to get them to clamber out of the front doors.
It has good interior space. Fuel economy is quite good.
Other than that rubbish, plain and simple. A modern day Morris Marina.

Volkswagen Passat Estate SE140PS TDi. I bought this car from pre-reg with 24 miles on the clock. I love the car, I think the shape is very pleasing. Packed with features including cruise control, on board computer, auto-hold (automatic handbrake). The ride is very smooth, engine torque is excellent. The car feels very light - you could park it with one finger. The interior is very spacious, both front and rear, there is bags of storage. One feature I love is the compartment within the glovebox s ...- Read Ken0104's review (214 words and 1 comment)

Overall the Passat by far overshadows rivals like the Mondeo and Vectra for build and performance. 600 miles to a tank on long journeys but In the real world expect to get more like 42-43 mpg combined rather than the claimed 48.- Read Guest's review (97 words)

My VW Passat 2001 TDI 130Bhp, now 6 years old, had suspension problems (not expensive to fix, but it's anoyng), broke itself 2 front electric windows, one by one after couple month. Have to change shocks. Looks like my previous Mazda 626 1992 had less problems in 2 years.- Read Guest's review (64 words and 1 comment)

VW Passat TDI 130BHP Highline 05 plate - 2005 has fantastic spec right down to the heated leather seats + all the gadgets and mod cons, esp, climate control, cruise control, onboard computer etc. But has great poke and is brilliant fun to drive. Love it when the turbo kicks in even at reletively low revs. Has fantastic fuel economy - pushing 50 miles to the gallon when compared to my previous car which was a ford focus tdi engine which only did 38 mpg.
Absolutely blown away by how good this c ...- Read conkerpot's review (126 words)

VW Passat 1.9tdi 100bhp PD 2002 (52 plate)
Lots of room, rear seats comfortable and airy. Comfy seats, plenty of pulling power, lovely on motorways, can be as exhillerating to drive as you wish. Genuinely get 50mpg + on motorways, 44mpg on my way to work on A roads and sitting in city traffic.
Mine is serviced at Kettering VW - they've been brilliant. The car is always returned washed and shiny from a service, and cheaper then Reg Vardy service.
I bought the car with 30K miles on it, i' ...- Read nishwick's review (384 words)

I had a 1.9TDI sport for 6 years, and covered 160,000 rural miles in it, not much motorway driving. I push my cars hard and was very impressed with the performance and even the fuel economy when pushing on.
The car was shunted up the rear, submerged in a river up o the door handles (don't ask) and had a head on in a lane (I wasn't actually driving at the time), and following VW repairs for these incidents still felt solid and drove well.
Buy one, they are solid as a rock.- Read richskyrme's review (203 words)

I bought my 130 Volkswagen Passat TDI Sport new and did 70,000 miles in 3 years without it ever actually breaking down. But, during that time it had 2 replacement water pumps, 1 turbo unit and my local VW dealer never did find what caused the engine management warning light to keep coming on. Despite that, I'd have another as it was so nice to drive. Although it was a Tiptronic automatic it was very economical averaging around 45 mpg but was still very quick off the mark and would easily out acc ...- Read stmartinsdiver's review (126 words)

I have owned a 90BHP Passat 1.9TDI for the past three years. I purchased the car with 50,000 on the clock. I have done 35k since. I have been so impressed with the car that I am about to change it for the 130 bhp model. Economy is superb for the size of the car, the car is well laid out inside with extras that you appreciate every time you use the car. Reliability has been great although the multi link front suspension system is prone to wearing which means costly repairs for arms links etc ...- Read wacko jacko's review (126 words)

2005 Volkswagon Passat TDI, very impressed, tight, solid and well thought out design. The biggie for me is the 48.9 mpg that I am getting on the highway and mid to high 30's in town.
I notice a small vibration during idle (inherent to all diesels) and a little loud, but both of these go away once you start to accelarate.- Read Rick Thompson's review (74 words)

My friend have VW Passat TDI 115 HP and he is very happy but I don't like that car beacuse he is ugly. It is not comfort for that size of car. It's not practicaly his commodity is not good. His seats are very hard and plastic on doors and interior panel is very hard and uncomfortably. Only one good thin in this car is stereo system.- Read Vedran's review (75 words and 2 comments)

Previously had a 1998 110 TDI, Changed to a 2001 130 Volkswagen Passat TDI sport. The 130 has a lot more power but I find that its doing around 44 mph compared to the 110 which did about 54 mpg. Although the 130 handles like a dream I don't think it is as comfortable as the 110. VW seem to have re-positioned the central arm rest and the driving position seems to be a bit lower, The 6-speed gear box is probably an advantage on motorways but most of my journeys are up country roads.- Read cathaoir corr's review (119 words)

Bought my Volkswagen Passat TDI 90BHP car about a month ago with 106000 on the clock with fvsh. Had a petrol Omega before this which I found lacking in virtually every dept. So moving to a diesel Passat was a total change and all for the better. This car just cruises on the motorway which is where I do most of my driving. I find it handles great and is really quiet. I like the general layout of the dash but the stereo can be a bit fiddly and would prefer single cd player in cabin rather than mul ...- Read siren's review (113 words)
