Good Points: Worked good for one year

Bad Points: Frequent no disk issue
    Numerous drop outs & noise

General comments: The Sony DVP-S56 player is expensive junk, repair costs too high

I started noticing funny operations with the Sony DVP-S560 DVD Player almost immeditately after I bought it (about 2 months).
Usually, Sony makes ok stuff. But yes.. this ones a seriously rubbish.
It costs way more to repair (why should I have to repair this flaw?) Sony wont back this one up. Cant figure out why. even if they gave me a 50.00 Rebate toward another "better" well known product, at least thats SOME recourse.
I know Im not the only one with an issue with this monster.

The Sony DVP-S560 DVD Player is a completely crud product that Sony should have recalled a long time ago. Not fit for intended use and Sony should expect a class action in light of the many, many people out there who have been cheated with this defective product.

Just like everyone else, shortly after getting this DVD new I began to experience the infamous "no disc" error and the DVD stopped working completely.

After reading all these reviews, I am afraid to say anything bad in case my DVD hears me. I have had mine for almost 3 years I think and I've never had a playback problem... And NO, I do NOT work for Sony. The only annoying thing I've experienced is I have to press "Open" twice because it doesn't recognize it the first time. Now watch it will die out on me tomorrow. :)

Same errors (exactly) as described by other reviewers started after aboout 18 months. Played fewer and fewer DVDs until finally it refused to recognize even brand new discs. Initially, we thought it was due to the condition of rented DVDs and became adept at cleaning them. It was not. I thank all those who suffered and posted before me, I will not spend the money on repairing this model.

It stopped playing most discs after 13 months, with constant "1300" errors. I spent $160 US to get it fixed. A year later...it's broken again. Fooled me once, Sony...
I would like to organize a class action suit against Sony. If interested, e-mail me.

I've had the same problems with this player that others have had: jumping to different parts of the disk after playing for an hour or so, C:13 errors or No Disk errors when disk is loaded. I've checked other websites and there are plenty of others out there with the exact same problem.
A number of reviews on audioreview.com describe fixes for the various problems this player encounters: overheating and a faulty fuse. The fuse in question is one labeled F402 and needs to be bypassed (direction ...

I had the Sony DVP-S560 DVD player for about a year and a half, after which it suddenly refused to recognize my DVDs (or CDs for that matter). After trying, it displays "NO DISC". From other reviews, this is obviously a recurrent problem, although Sony did not even offer to lower their flat repair rate of $139 (87 pounds). Needless to say, I'm not taking them up on it. I think I'll hang onto my proof of purchase for the day Sony loses another class-action suit...

I bought this unit because Consumer Reports rated it very highly at the time. I also have had the same problems everyone here has mentioned. DVDs will skip, and I especially have had problems near the ends of movies. My PS2 plays DVDS better than this one that cost $250.00. What I want to know is this. Has anyone found out what the problem is with this unit? I would think there has to be something wrong with how the belt is positioning the laser, especially since it always screws up at the ...

This piece of rubbish is a totally waste of money. All of the sudden it stopped working and never reads any disc and always displays NO DISC. I bought it 2 years ago and rarely used it.

I had the same issues. Just about EVERY DVD disc would freeze at the end or the DVD would REPEAT back to the beginning of the movie. And then, "NO DISC" comes up on the panel. After "NO DISC", player never read any discs.

I had the dvd player for about a year and a half, and had absolutely no problems with it, until it just gave the "no disc" error. $160 to repair it, so I'm going to trash it and get a new one. Bottom line: absolute waste of money.

Well, I received my S560 Sony about a couple of months back. Like the poor gent who posted his review before me, I had the same issues. Just about EVERY DVD disc would freeze at the end or the DVD would REPEAT back to the beginning of the movie! I checked the unit and noticed an intense heat build up underneath. Stay away from these units...new, used or whatever. I called Sony just to humor myself and see what they would do. Ofcourse you can get the unit repaired.....for only $179 dollars U ...

Count me out of ever buying a SONY product again.
I don't understand why they haven't recalled this piece of garbage. Maybe someday a class action suit will wake them up.

I've experienced the same problem with my Sony DVP-S560 DVD player as reported here in other S360 reviews. First, the player displayed "NO DISC". Now, all that happens is that the power light turns green for a few seconds when I first turn it on and then it goes red. The first time this problem happened, the player was in the 1 year parts warranty, BUT there was a $130 minimum labor charge JUST TO LOOK AT IT! As far as I can tell, the player is now a throwaway.
