The Rotak 34 while being a cheap purchase at £89.00 in my view is not a great lawn mower. There are many faults in its design. The grass box has to many awkward shapes that retain the grass when emptying and worse still the sides are open with air vents which lets the small grass blades out what the idea is makes you wonder?, The grass height selection lever in plastic can be difficult to move simply because the spring mechanism is far to large and the lever in plastic is strong but flexes... After much trepidation I opted to buy A Bosch Rotak 34 after my Qualcast cylinder mower expired. The new mower arrived and within ten minutes of opening the box I was mowing. Set on the shortest cut the machine gave as neat and close trim as my old cylinder mower. No "scalping", no digging-in just a nice close cut. I was so impressed I decided to take the mower and tackle a council maintained verge outside my home. This "green" area consisted of dandelions and long scrubby grass. ... (read more)

bought a Bosch 34 Mower to replace my broken Hover-Mower. The first thing I noticed when I took it out was the weight! Compared to most lawn mowers it is very light, when putting it together lots of other reviewers said it took a long time. LIE! From the moment I got it out the box to when I turned it on took about 10 minutes, 2 screws put the 2 pieces of the handle toghether and the other 2 to join the whole handle to the mower. Včera som zobral star Cina kosačky, Rotak 34 skončil .
Doln ložisko sa zohrialo posunulo plastovom asi o 7 mm .
Kosačka je neopraviteľn , pretoze oprava JE nerentabiln , motor asi treba vymeniť.Z ruka skončila .
Na Slovensk cena kosačky 200 euro 2 t ždeň mzda ..
Nikdy Kosačka Bosch !

We purchased the Bosch Rotak 34 Lawnmower a couple of months ago and used it about 6 times. Accidentally clipping a manhole cover in the lawn has stopped the blade spinning, and upon inspection broken a plastic part internally. Bosch's response is that this is not covered by warranty, and due to precision manufactoring something will break if the blade hits at high speed. I bought this lawn mower thinking that the make bosch would be of high quality, durable and last many years as stated in their leaflet. The machine stopped working and when i gave it to repair i was told it was the motor. How can a lawn mower which has an occasional usage just stop working. I rang Bosch customer services who just stated that they only cover for 2 years and if product fails to work then tough luck basically. i would never recommend any of their make products to anyone. I bought this mower because it was light and easy to lift no flex which was good as my garden is on two levels.
However I am now on my third replacement in two years. The fault being that the mower does not start even although the battery is fully charged.
This product is a complete dud and not fit for the purpose. Do not buy this under any circumstances you will have nothing but trouble with it.

Great light lawn mower that cuts beautifully up to the edge... overall I've used mine for 3 months cutting every other week and had no problems.
Only down side was that it was a bit tricky to put together, but managed it in the end.

Bosch Rotak 34 Electric lawn mower
I bought this mower for 69.99 incl del - on sat, arrived today 14/8/09
I previousely used a hover, which was hard work and gave a poor cut.
This is total the oppersite, light, easy to operate, gives and v.good cut.
its hight adjustable so you decide the hight of your grass. the lawn looks totally different, i feel proud of it, i just wished i'd not been a tight sod and bought this years ago.
The motor has an overload facility so you sould not burn the motor...

Bought this Bosch Rotak 34 this afternoon and assembled it within 30 minutes and ready to mow my lawn immediately. The height adjustment is quite unfriendly and delicate with the plastic handle - can be better designed to make it slide easily. The grass comb did not work very well for trimming grass along the wall - still need a separate strimmer to cut it clean. Have to set to height setting 2 for my carpet grass and it cuts beautifully and evenly throughout. Clearing the grassbox is easy... (read more)

I am really disappointed with this mower. It looked great, had a powerful enough motor and after my old mower gave up the ghost I decided to go with Bosch. I wish I had gone with Flymo. The mowers grass box is nothing short of infuriating. The cut grass goes in easily enough but getting it out is a real hastle. The sides seem too close together so if the grass box is full (which it usually is) you are forced to pull the grass out yourself. Other than the grass box the height adjuster seems... (read more)

I had Flymos had cylinder mowers before this Bosch Rotak 34 Electric. All been good but all went wrong. Bits hard to get reasons for the Bosch was I could get at any shop and they all do repairs or send them away for repairs.
What more can customers want? I had a Atco costing 350 for two weeks it went wrong and for a repair they wanted postage and 25 for parts now that's pants!

Liked my Bosch Rotak 34 Electric so much, I bought my son one, and a colleague at work bought one also. The great things are that it is lightweight, does excellent cutting on long and short grass. Additionally it also leaves lovely stripe effect and finally it picks up every bit of grass cut. (read more)

The Bosch Rotak 34 Electric is a great little mower and otherwise suits my needs perfectly. But the collector box is a pain to empty - it has very large internal "shoulders" which create pockets for the grass to sit in and refuse to come out. This creates a real bottle-neck and means you cant simply shake it out but have to scoop out the grass by hand. It also has a sharp pointed "tongue" which fits into the mower in use but gets in the way when emptying (and tears refuse sacks).

After lasts years disaster with my lawn mower, I decided to get a new one - the Bosch Rotak 34. I am quite impressed with it, although I haven't been able to use it much lately with all the rain. I got it out after two days of nice weather, and even though the grass was still a bit damp, it cut it with no problems. I also like this one, as it is not as bulky as the last one, so it is easier to manoeuvre, but it is still quite big to store away. I would recommend. (read more)

The small holes in the box are for air flow through the box otherwise the grass gathers at the front of the box!

Yes, the grass box is perforated to promote air flow.
But that is not the point.
The grass box lid is so badly designed that there are significant gaps around the edges and rear, through which clippings are blown all over the mower and the person using it. This is entirely unacceptable.

I would take it back as there is an obvious fault. Mine is now over a year old and I have none of these problems. Gives the best cut of a fair size lawn that I have ever had

Responding to Vanastica: You are absolutely right :-).
I could not figure out what was wrong, other than confirming the grassbox assembly was correct, as it fitted perfectly on an identical mower. It's obvious that this fault is not unique and I therefore expected that the Bosch Technical Advice Line would have a solution. But they simply offered to collect and replace or repair, which I declined.
The supplier replaced the mower, on the spot, no quibble, and the replacement did not have the leaky lid problem.
I fully concur with the reviewer's comments regarding awkward emptying of the grassbox due to its internal reinforcement fillets and the really balky height adjustment.
