I have only ever bought Panasonic before this and have never had any problems. My old Panasonic set is still working fine and it's nine years old. The reason I went for a Sony other than it's looks was the reputation it had for excellence. I for one will never consider buying a Sony product again having witnessed what they accept as minor problems.

Sony KV-32FQ75(S) - Sony, who came to my rescue after all the preceding events, were wonderful, if slightly ineffectual. The faulty tube not only had the afforementioned scratch but also an arc-shaped black circle in the centre of it. The shop it was from refused to accept any responsibility before going belly-up within 1 year so I moaned to our local Sony dealership and to my rescue came a very nice Sony person who agreed to replace the tube. But the new one is also faulty and has on the left handside of the tube a bluriness which makes reading titles or Sky menus virtually impossible. However now, 2 years on, Sony are replacing my set with a brand new spanking uptodate kv32fq86( happy days and touch wood I will have no further problems). But Sony have been wonderful to deal with, and although I would not recommend the TV in question, I would have no problem recommending Sony.

The Television is a good design externally but that's about it.

I've had my KV32FQ75 since Feb 2002. Its already been back to the shop to try and find two seperate faults. The first fault was the speakers would make a cracking sound then I would lose the sound for a few seconds. The sound also favours the left hand speaker (I was told this was in the allowable range!). The second fault was when we had a continuous loud electric clicking sound from out of the back of the T.V and the picture pulsed in time with it!! This lasted for about 10 minutes at a time then stopped. The shop hasn't been able to find the faults as they are intermittent and have just sent the TV back to us. Sony says We will have to wait for the TV to go wrong on a permanant basis before anything can be done. Thanks Sony!

Now on my second Sony KV32FQ75(S) TV set which seems to be worse than the 1st as far as the focus goes. I've now also got the added feature of the "buzzing" sound, so you could say i'm a little disappointed with the tv. Now considering options for an alternative make/model and have been looking at both Panasonic and Toshiba or a refund.

I've had two of these Sony KV32FQ75(S) sets now and both sets have had the same problem of terrible text focussing on the left side of the screen. Bearing in mind the cost...very disappointed. I give up and have decided that I'm going to go for a Philips instead.

I also bought the Sony KV32fq75 and found a problem on focusing on the left side of the set. I had my set replaced by Sony centre, but still have same problem with focusing, maybe not as bad as the previous set. It has been roughly 2-3 since I purchased the set, I wonder if I can ask for a refund from Sony and instead go for possibly a Phillips TV.
I am also not satisfied with DRC, as it does not make any difference when watching normal mode or DRC. Phillips I believe has a better response from pixel plus.
I have email this to Sony, but found no solution, other then refer to my dealer.

The Sony KV32FQ75(S) TV has a superb picture... when it's working. My first set lasted less than FIVE minutes. A clicking sound (like a chattering relay) came from the back of the thing-then no picture.
Recovered the pic after half an hour but fault continued to recur.
Set replaced.
Second set PRECISELY the same failure, this time after four days.
Back to the shop-good as gold:collecting the beast
and delivering another set. Guess what - it's NOT a Sony.

I had the clicking sound and the picture flickered at the same time , we did'nt loose the picture completely. Its happened a few times but because it's intermittent the shop haven't seen it happen- so they won't replace the set or do anything about it. The sound also cracks and then
dissapears for a few seconds before comming back.
At least you were able to change your TV. Looks like we will be stuck with ours until it blows up totally!!

The reason for purchasing a Sony TV is that the reviews in various magazines were very good and you cannot go wrong buying a Sony. My KV32FQ75(S) TV is suffering from banding, bubbles in the glass and washing out colours. I have been very disappointed and I dare not swap it out as I might get another lemon. There is a drastic lack of shielding at the base of the TV thus rendering the shelves redundant as the magnetic fields from the DVD plaver and Video wash out all reds at the bottom of the screen. Man U and Ferrari do not look good in purple. My £100 portable Toshiba has no problems.

I would definitely recommend that anyone who is looking for a 32" widescreen TV stay well clear from the Sony KV32FQ75. I had 3 in total and all had the above bad points. When you consider what the TV costs this is very disappointing.

I'm afraid I have to report similar problems with the Sony KV32FQ75(S) model TV.
I'm now on my third and I too have had enough. All 3 sets haven't been unable to tune BBC2 or ITV. 2 of the 3 have had blurred Teletext on the left side of the screen and sound which favoured the right speaker. It's simply unacceptable for a set which cost around £1600.
I would strongly advise everyone to avoid this set.

I'm on my second machine. The picture quality was what prompted me to by it in the first place but getting it home I noticed problems mainly with the edges for the picture. A line appears on the right hand side when watching a 4:3 between the pic and the black area and the same on the top watching a widescreen movie. Is this the same on yours?

Paul,

I've not had the problem you describe with picture edges although nothing suprises me when you consider the catalogue of problems that various reviewers have noted. I'm changing my set for a Philips 32PW9617, given rave reviews in "Home Entertainment" and "Essential Home Cinema"

Have my second Sony KV32FQ75(S) TV set and both have more than one fault. The scrolling bands as described in the previous review are on both sets. Engineers could not fix. Problem referred to Sony UK who kept on denying the existence of this fault until recently. Up to now they have not come up with a solution even though they have known this for many months. Also found that many frustrating owners having this problem on http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=033dcaf07a4ecf06bd155acef241e6bf&threadid=29182&perpage=15&pagenumber=1
Great set with faults and bad customer service from Sony.

Hello!
I'm very comfused because I was planning to buy this tv set few months now and just few weeks ago I saw many comments in internet about these scrolling bars. I live in Greece and I have gone to a store to see this particular model and I didn't notice any of the problems. My question is if there is another production country for tv's through the countrys so that problems shows up only in a part of them. You describe this model with an "s" at the end. It's the stand that defines this "s" or somthing else.Because here in Greece the exact model is fq75D.I hope this D makes the difference. We will see...
Thank you

I was thinking of buying this set, but since reading these reviews I have my doubts. Is it also true that this model is to be discontinued in September, to be replaced?

Avoid the Sony KV32FQ75 (s) Television set. I have had mine less than 28 days and want shut of it. See bad points for why.

3 months hey.....Just got my set today, it lasted 3 hours, is this a record for one of these TV's. It turns itself off and on whenever it feels like it and once off can't be turned on again for at least 2 hours. I have tried a different mains source and ensured the Earth wasn't dirty however the box seems to have been born with rather erratic personality. Time to try Sony Costumer Care me thinks....what a load of Toss....SORT IT OUT SONY!

I've had this Sony KV32Q75(S) TV set for about 3 months now and I did not expect a Sony product with so many faults as this set. Looks like Sony QA needs examining or maybe it was dropped as it does weigh around 75kg!
I have experienced colour purity problems with this set since day one. This manifests itself as a large yellow patch on one corner of the tube. I was told by Sony that this was normal! Secondly the left hand side of the screen is out of focus. This can been seen when in teletext mode. I had it adjusted by Sony, but the problem is still visible. Thirdly there are what I can only describe as "scrolling" bars from left to right. The bars are very faint but once you see them you cannot ignore them. There was no explanation from Sony about this fault.
Other than that, I think it looks very stylish and there are 3 scart connectors at the back. Its also got picture in picture and switchable 50/100Hz picture.
To be fair there are probably good FQ75's out there, but it seems from reading reviews on the net they are far and few between.
Cheers.
J

The purple patch is caused by the magnetic fields from whatever you have placed on the glass shelves...
You cannot use the shelves for what they were intend or you will constantly get this problem...
