    Bad Points: No Dimmer functionality, Connector from the faceplate to the deck stops working properly after about a year of casual use.


    General comments: I have had my CDX-MP40 for about 3 years now. I've moved it to several different cars; it is by far my favorite receiver. Only gripes I have, are:
    1) Extremely bright at night.
    2) I have to clean the contacts every couple of weeks, or it will start doing random stuff (volume stops working, screen freezes, screen goes blank, looses power, etc)
    As for quality, when it was hooked up to the factory system in my celica, it sounded alright, but a bit more scratchy than the factory system.. but other than that, it has sounded fine.. I think I just had something hooked up wrong in that setup.

    My Sony CDX-MP40 MP3 CD Tuner with CD/MD Auto-changer Control was cheap to buy but it has poor sound quality, almost no bass, the presets don't work and the volume will stop working at times. The FM receiver can't seem to play any station that isn't in my backyard.

    Even though the buttons started doing the wrong functions after a few years I am still not going to change my Sony CDX-MP40 MP3 CD Tuner for anything else. As I can ignore this and as for the screen being bright at night that's not a problem as the unit still plays with the front panel flipped down... If you can find one in good condition buy it you will love it.

    Fantasic X-PLOD system much better than my new Alpine dvd satnav tv system that I'm getting ripped out to put my old Sony CDX back in. Had it for 2/3 years now and it's still top on my list!!

    Had this Sony CDX-MP40 MP3 CD Tuner in my Carina. Its an excellent unit but it is not possible to dim the display at night. Display is very bright indeed and if the unit is mounted in your line of vision as it was in my toyota it proves very distracting, so much so that I changed it for a unit that allows dimming (kenwood). Otherwise excellent, radio great, cd player great, mp3 player great, was sorry to part with it but it was impossible to drive at night with unit turned on.
