Good Points: Great location but coaches and cars unable to park outside the hotel for loading and unloading - except the hotel's minibus.

Bad Points: The attitude of a small minority of staff needs addressing.

General comments: We have spent many holidays in Nerja over the 15 years with the last three stays at the Balcon De Europa. However, on the last two we encountered problems with the 'bill' when leaving the hotel. The first time we had two more guests added to our account ! The second (and last) time we had no account with the hotel but paid cash for drinks. However, on leaving we were presented with a bill for use of the telephone in our room. We made no calls during our stay - not even with our mobile phones! The receptionist was adamant that we pay the bill and made no apology for their mistake. We refused, and on returning home the hotel was contacted by e-mail (twice) and eventually we received an apology admitting their mistake.(The call was made from an adjoining room). We have just booked another Nerja holiday but this time at another hotel. The Balcon De Europa have lost two customers due to the intransigence of a staff member.

I felt that the some of the reception staff could maybe come across as rude and arrogant. I would not recommend.

Not only was the hotel a huge disappointment but they had double booked our room on arrival. We had paid for a room with a sea view, through the booking agents World on a Plate. On arrival however, we were told that all the rooms with sea views were taken and had to spend our first night in what can only be described as servants Quarters, directly opposite a very noisy Irish Pub. The following day we were finally given the room we should have had but we had to wait hours for it to be prepared a ...
