The Ryobi ECW 1841 Electric Chainsaw is a complete waste of money. Chain wont turn and it is brand new

I replaced a very old Black and Decker 1500 watt chainsaw which I had to write off due to non availability of a worn part. I had had it 15 years and it had done sterling service ( domestic) . I replaced it with the supposedly higher power rated Ryobi ECW 1841 Electric Chainsaw. Big mistake. It did not appear more powerful despite its higher powered motor . It was much heavier and did not seem well balanced and the safety guard was too sensitive - seemed to have a will of its own. To cap it al ...

I found the Ryobi ECW 1841 Electric Chainsaw is reliable and easy to use. However, the safety guard operates too easily, stopping the chain drive. No major problems, despite other comments, oil use is fine.

The Ryobi ECW 1841 Electric Chainsaw is a very useful tool for very small jobs during law clean up and preparing wood for cooking with the smoker.

Lower power level than expected but for very ligh jobs it passed.

Ease of use, minimal maintenance required, also readily accessible without the preparation of a gas-powered chain saw.

The Ryobi ECW 1841 Electric Chainsaw appears to be good value but in practise it has turned out to be a waste of my money!

I read the reviews on this site after I'd already ordered it online. As I was having to forfeit P&P costs thought I'd give it a whirl despite reading the dreadful reviews.
I'd set out for a leisurely afternoon in the sun flooring & shredding a hedge, instead I had an afternoon of complete frustration. As soon as I put the saw to the hedge, the very first cut the chain flew off & I spent the rest of the afternoon trying to put chain back on: completely unusable, very, very bad buy!

The chain on my Ryobi ECW 1841 Electric Chainsaw definitely requires attention, I get the impression that it's just not robust enough. Also uses a lot of oil. Need to buy a lot of oil! The chain loses its sharpness quite quickly.

I made a very bad buy, I drive Toyotas which are good value and reliable. The Ryobi is cheap, but what use is that if it does not do the job?

Sort out the chain and oil issues and the Ryobi ECW 1841 Electric Chainsaw is fine. Also, the instructions were poor. Nearly all Health & Safety points, but hardly anything about the operation. ie it will not operate unless the finger guard is moved towards the grip.
