A stunning, amazing, beautiful masterpiece of a camera. This digital Nikon camera is the best I have ever used, it has all the settings, manual, auto, you can set the aperture and shutter speed do it all manually, the lens and manual focus are incredibly powerful creating amazing, clear and sharp images perfect for everyone to use. Well worth the money and it has no faults what so ever1 I highly recommend this state of the art piece of equipment to all. I am doing my A2 in photography and this… Read Full Review

Amazingly easy to use and is the perfect starter camera, don't be fooled, there are loads of professional settings to be mastered before moving up to a better model, Ive had mind for two years and am always learning new techniques, only gripe is that it doesent have movie capability but for the price you cannot go wrong, go ahead buy it youll not be disapointed… Read Full Review

“Viewfinder/LCD ”

Written on: 06/12/2010 by nottinghamfella (41 reviews written)

Viewfinder/LCD
Since this is a digital SLR, you get a true optical viewfinder. The viewfinder is actually very nice and bright. A diopter adjustment is available so that the focus point marks and information in the viewfinder are sharp. The viewfinder covers about 95% of the actual captured image. While shooting, camera settings (focus, metering, exposure compensation, aperture, shutter speed, etc) are very visible in green text and symbols below the frame.

The D40 is my 4th Nikon slr in 35 years. Previous cameras..FT2, F301, F601.
Nikon are the d*** b******* when it comes to slr's!
The D40 is utterly reliable and can produce amazing images.
Having 6Mp on a DX CCD means absolutely no noise even at 1600 asa. So why have more Mp's and more noise.
6Mp is all you will ever need unless you are a pro who does massive posters!
The D40 handles beautifully. The battery lasts so long that I have never had to use the two spares that I bought (only £6 each… Read Full Review

“Nikon D40. ”

Nikon D40.
Good for beginners. I am using for the last 2 years and had no problem at all.
The flash light is not good enough for indoor shooting, especially when zoomed in.
The life of the battery is excellent.
The body gives a kind of plastic-feeling when holding in the hand (not solid - kind of feeling).
Over all I like the sharp pictures and the easy to use nature of Nikon D40… Read Full Review

I paid £225 for my Nikon D40 with the 18-55 zoom & 2 year warranty.
I paid that much 3 years ago for my Sony compact so for a full dSLR the price is excellent value.
The only barrier to moving from a compact to an SLR was price, but with this barrier removed my hobby is reborn.
Just buy one!… Read Full Review

This camera is pitched at new DSLR users, and it hits the mark. It is quite small, light and very easy to use right out of the box.

There is plenty of flexibility to get as down-and-dirty as you want with manual exposures, aperture and shutter settings, white balance, etc etc. Or, you just switch it on and snap away. Pop in a 2Gb card, set the camera to Medium JPEG and you'll get over 1,000 pictures.

Image quality is great - do not be put off by the fact that it is "only" 6 Megapixels. Nikon… Read Full Review

After lots of looking around and umm'ing and rr'ing I decided to splash out on a Nikon D40.

I must just say this... if you're looking for a DSLR camera you will not buy better than the D40. I've never used a DSLR before and am incredibly impressed by the ease of use this model offers.

Value for money simply cannot be beaten, for a start.

Picture quality? Well! Having had a Canon Ixus 55 compact which takes some excellent images I thought the D40 would be hard pressed to have a huge… Read Full Review
