I have used Grisoft AVG for quite sometime but I have to switched to another antivirus software when I learned that AVG won't be updating the free versions anymore. I guess they discontinued that now.
The paid versions for AVG (professional) was quite good but I guess there are free antivirus softwares (Avast and Avira) that performs better than AVG.

Have just renewed with AVG,paid for and subsequently downloaded Internet Security 8.5.Installation failed, firewall doesn't work, technical services don't reply to emails and neither do customer services.FAQ gives possible solution but this involves another huge download-and I'm on dial up !if you're thinking about it-don't.I now have something I've paid for but doesn't work and may even cause me further problems when I try to uninstall !Customer service dreadful.....

I am a technician that has used Grisoft AVG for years on many different computer systems. Both free and paid subsriptions have worked great! It is one of the first apps I install. Its detection rate is comparatively good--it usually detects and removes threats that are already on systems. With the later versions, its a great value to also get the other malware detection products. Wish I had stock with the company:-)

Grisoft AVG 7.5 was great. But when I installed AVG 8, my system crashed. My mouse hanged, my computer ceased to move.....Perhaps i am using an old AMD chip....not Pentium 4... Should I throw away my trusty old PC just to install AVG 8? nah.....

As soon as I downloaded Grisoft AVG 8 my laptop started showing up problems first time in two years. Start up became extremely slow and everything including the mouse would freeze for half an hour and hard drive would make a low noise. I could not even shut down the laptop. Windows message "Saving your settings" comes up and stays on still I press and hold the power button to shut it. I took my laptop to PC world for repair. They advised me to backup all data and and configure windows from the b ...

Grisoft AVG is good value as its free! I had a problem with my user profile and had to rebuild windows... now AVG says I have a license error but will not let me uninstall or reinstall. I have had no response from their help desk. It is extremely frustrating!
I would never use AVG products again after this experience.

They actually destroyed my operating system as far as I am concerned. It won't uninstall using its own uninstall program, and it won't uninstall with the control panel program, either. Had to use special software to uninstall it. After uninstall, computer is running much faster.
Not the best AV software, although was functional for months before it goofed up.

Since installing AVG Free it now takes me up to a minute to connect to the Internet! Grisoft says that it is not their problem but it is. I have got rid of it in favour of Avast and once again connect speedily to the Internet.
    'Nuff said?

AVG 8.0 is an excellent product that installs quickly and smoothly. Its footprint is small and yet it provides thorough security coverage. It is intuitive to use, updates rapidly, and has the ability to change the speed of a scan depending on your work at the time. The indicators showing the safety of a webpage is very neat.

On the downside, if you install from a disc, they fail to inform you that the licence runs from the date of purchase, not the installation date. If you wait 2 months before ...

I have the 3 licence Internet Security on my 3 machines. Two running Vista and a laptop with XP and my ISP is AOL. All worked well until 24th October 08 then see below...
I have paid up front for a service which I do not get. The help desk is always 'we are receiving an unusually high number of calls' so one can't get through. Emails takes days for a reply and don't address the problem. I used to be a strong supporter of AVG and happy to pay for a full program but no more.

Five weeks after I bought AVG 8 on CD, the company disseminated a routine daily update that causes an infinite "reboot needed" loop. This renders the AV program useless. Grisoft's only solution: buy a new CD. Grisoft sees no problem with asking to be paid 10 times a year for correcting their fatal errors.

WORSE: some AVG code has trashed operating systems. Dell computers FAQ prominently features information about how to repair your operating system after AVG deletes critical files, such that ...

I have used v.7.5 for 11 months which was fine until I tried to install on a new machine running Vista. My original licence number is no longer valid and I find AVG help is just not helpful. Requests for help generate automated replies which do not address my problems and mail to AVG remains unanswered. I would not recommend this product.

    1) When I bought the program on disk in September 2008, compensating for a slow dialup connection, the company shipped me a "personalized" version with the most recent av updates dated early July. Lots of other minor technical problems with the disk, such that most users would not have been able to use it to install the program. (I did user support at University of Hawaii in early 90s and have been director of Distance Education most of the past decade. Trust me on that. Not many people could ha ...

I've been using Avira for years. And was happy with it... till...
I tried AVG. Avira constists only of a resident guard and a virus scanner.
AVG has this + Emailscanner + Spywarescanner + Adwarescanner + Protection from dangerous links in the web (even without having the browser plugin istalled).
And it found a Trojan on my PC Avira never found.
And slowing the PC down. Who says this? Compared to Avira it has much lower system requirements. I don't even recognize when it's scanning in my PC perf ...
