I would rate this hotel, the Hotel San Antonio, as very good in general although there are one or two things that were negative as well as positive. This hotel has a presence it is located between Playa Grande and Los Pocillos not far from the airport (transfers take 10 mins depending on other drop offs). Currently, there are roadworks outside the hotel so if you wanted to catch the local bus it stops off a 3-4 min walk down the road but not a problem in itself but may be cause for concern if you have walking difficulties. The roadworks are due to finish mid June. The hotel itself is well presented with large glass doors leading into a grand reception with sofas, information points and payphones. The reception staff are friendly and speak relatively good English. The rooms themselves are good, beds comfortable and sea views. I was impressed with the 24inch flat screen TV with Channel 4, SkySports 1 and Five along with News, Eurosport and the usual you tend to get in Spain. The maid service is good, the change your towels as you wish and generally tidy up if youre messy like me!
The outside pool area is quite large. It is split between two pools; a larger pool on the lower terrace and a smaller (well its not small I'd say 20 metres) on the upper terrace. The pools are both salt water however I couldn't stand the lower pool as it murdered by eyes after two minutes. The upper pool is fine. The pool bar is fine, however I didn't get any of the food as the prices are a bit dear for what it is and compared to local restaurants and pubs. There are plenty of sun loungers to go around.
The daytime entertainment was fun. They have aqua aerobics (which my mum and aunt loved) pool, darts, bowls all sorts! The kids club looked well stocked too however there were very few kids there when I went. The hotel has a gym that is adequate. It has free weights, which I was impressed with, but don't expect miracles. Has all the basics (cycles rowing machine runner etc) and some machines. The hotel is right on the beach however if you plan to use the beach you will probably want to walk five minutes to the left as you can't really go in the sea due to the rocks.
Now we come to the restaurant where I have to be more critical. The man issue with the restaurant were some of the waiters. They are hopeless to say the least. It wasn't so much their grasp of English it was more that they didn't listen. They'd automatically assume you wanted this or that, they'd bring drinks for one or two of you then the others would turn up 10 mins later or not at all. I could understand if it was busy but it really wasn't. Also, the main host was rude and unhelpful. Now my party and I have mixed views on the food. Personally, I thought it was very nice, plenty of choice with both the mains and deserts. The theme nights (Chinese, Indian) were also very good. One criticism was the fact the food was warm however they have a microwave which you can use yourself. One minute in that and all was fine. Breakfast was good, they have real sausages not just those daft hot dogs you tend to get in these type of hotels!
Overall, this hotel was great, except a couple of niggles, but at the end of the day nothing to ruin your holiday!
