Our Pacific DVD-750 DVD player developed a strange very loud vibrating noise for the first 10-15 minutes til it has warmed up fully, ASDA happily exchanged it as it was only a couple of weeks old. Our new player was very noisy skipping around tracks & when listening to it late at night with the sound down low the motors etc seemed noisy, but it was very cheap & you do tend to get what you pay for. Picture quality was fine, sound quality not so nice as it made everyone shout, even when they... (read more)

I bought the Pacific DVD player in 2002 in ASDA and it plays most things, but there are a few discs it will not play at all. Recently I purchased a legitimate box set of Joss Wheldon's FIREFLY TV series, of which I am an enormous fan, and it quite simply will not play it. This is most disappointing as by now the device is well out of guarantee and I cannot get a refund. I would strongly advise against purchasing one of these because you never know, a few years down the line, you might... (read more)

We've tried the macro hack open tray key 4561, this should show macrovision enable/disable then close tray but it didn't work for us. We also had a different multi region hack code 8421 and this worked fine. If anyone knows of any other macro hack for this player please email me. :-)

I have had no probs with VCD's I have aquired some from Hong Kong and they play fine. It maybe that you have bought them as VCD's and they are not maybe they have a different format and are only compatible with PC's for and example. The only thing I haven't tried is to play MP3....not to sure how that works yet.

I also have the Pacific DVD 750 from Asda. It plays VCDs without any problems - this was the reason that I bought it as my older Matsui simply refused to play ball. Are you sure that you are encoding your VCDs correctly when you write them - and have you tried them on other DVD players?
<br>
<br>Apart from that the 750 is brilliant value for money. True, the drawer mechanism is a little slow - as are other functions. But when it's playing both the picture (particularly through the component video outputs - how many budget decks have that?) and the digi sound are terrific. At this price range I think it's virtually unbeatable, so I can't understand the rating given in this review.

The Manual for the DVD-750 clearly states that it will play MPEG1 and 2 formats. A VCD is MPEG1 format and so we are within our rights to expect it to play them. I am taking mine back to Asda for a refund or to swap for the cheaper model mentioned above.

“Help! ”

Help!
We're having intermittent problems with audio on DVD playback. Normally, audio quality is fine but we experience a problem where the sound mutes to an unrecognisable mush for no apparent reason. Happens on every DVD we've tried to play - thought I'd 'fixed' it yesterday by switching off Dolby and resorting to surroundsound only but five minutes later (and on the same scene) the audio was terrible again!
Anyone got a clue how to sort this?

I bought the 750 in may and it played vcd discs .
<br>but my son spat on a disc and tried to play it ,as a result vcd and dvd would not play.
<br>we took it back to asda and they replaced it there and then ,but the new one won't play my vdc's I have since found that the makers realised that people were only buying the machine to play copies, so they dropped the code that plays vcd's ,since then sales have bombed. they are going to reinstate the vcd software on a future batch around xmas time. the three year warrantry will come in handy:)

“I first bought this Pacific dvd-750 DVD player in...”

Written on: 27/05/2002 by Meefy.

I first bought this Pacific dvd-750 DVD player in April 2002. Thought it was fab at the time because it played home-burnt VCDs and SVCDs, but after 2 months I noticed it skipping more and more on many discs, which made me take it back. A new one (still the 750) proved that the VCD function had been disabled - apparently because of copyright issues (!!!) There are still some 750's out there which will play VCDs (the Scheider model available at the moment is similar) so snap one up quickly if... (read more)

I quite like this Pacific DVD750 DVD player (silver, cheap, cheap) but one thing annoys me. Every SVCD i play seems to pause (audio drops video too some times) every 4-8 secs. Can anyone confirm that this machine plays SVCDs without a hitch? If it's just me then i'll take it back! (read more)

Written on: 12/05/2002 by Mick.

After reading the reviews on the pacific 750 DVD player, I bought one. I was impressed with it until I tried to play a VCD disc. Some reviews gave the impression that it could play this type of disc. When I looked through the instruction manual it tells you about advance play back with VCD. On the front cover of the manual there is an additional sticker telling me the VCD option is disabled on this equipment. Shouldn't that sticker be on the box I ask. (read more)

I bought a Pacific DVD750 dvd player today (from ASDA). This is my first DVD player. I tried the settings etc, then watched my first vcd and half way through i tried to stop it and it kept playing, I checked the remote batteries because nothing worked, then i realised that on the player the display had frozen. The only way to stop it was to turn it off.
Tried it again and the same thing happened.
Anyone know whats up??

The Pacific DVD-750 DVD player is £90 from ASDA! I've paid more than that for a bloody toaster. And it comes with a 3 year, I repeat, 3 year guarantee. It's a bit big but so are most of the DVD players in the shops. Why do they have to be so wide and deep? (read more)

Well, I wanted a DVD player, and at my local ASDA I found the deal of the millenium. £90 (YES, NINETY POUNDS!!) will get you this Pacific DVD-750 DVD player with enough functions to warrant a good £200 price tag in any of the high street stores. The multi-region and anti-macrovision aren't official features, but are easily accessed with no 'chipping' of the machine or anything like that (see the hacks on this site.) Ok, so it's a bit big, but what are we, Japanese? And it's also a bit noisy... (read more)

I bought one of these paper weight Pacific DVD750 DVD players. When I tried to play a certain vcd it dumped like mad. I spoke with the help line after I had changed the player twice and was told they were having a lot of trouble with the opticals on this machine. SO WHY ARE THEY STILL SELLING THEM. I have it on good authority that a new model is coming out in April so I'll change it then. (read more)

I had the same lockup problem with my Pacific DVD750 DVD player.
It turned out it was because my VCR was on top of it. I switched them around and have not had a single problem since. The price you pay is that the case is very flimsy and won't support much weight.
It's played everything I've thrown at it, DVD, MP3 on CD-r and VCD, I've yet to try it with an SVCD.
The basic PACIFIC DVD screen looks quite tacky, almost out of focus the image is so poor, I would expect more from a DVD... (read more)

My brother in law just bought one of these from Asda, and it seems like a good buy. We checked the manual in store to make sure it did VCD/CDR, a prerequisite for his purchase. No problems, VCD is referred to many a time.
<br>
<br>He takes it home, throws the box away, then notices a sticker on the front of the manual saying that the VCD function has been disabled. Gutted.
<br>
<br>Anyone know a remote hack, or site for firmware download for this model? What is it a clone of? I have searched the net but can't really find much on it, apart from its made by Schneider.

Unfortunately in February this year Schneider saw fit to remove the Macro Hack from the Pacific DVD750 DVD Player, following this they also removed the VCD Playing facility. Schneider claim it is due to UK Copyright laws!! This all seems really bizarre!! Do they not want to sell any more players?? They have gone the right way about it. I can understand the Macro Hack removal, but why the VCD?? Practically ALL other players support VCD and SVCD. My review now goes down to 1/10. ASDA have been good though for all those returning their players. I can't really see why they should refuse to accept it if the box is missing, were you supposed to keep all the original packaging for the whole three years?? Not everyone has a garage to store empty boxes in. Take it back!

I bought one of these Pacific DVD750 DVD players at my local ASDA store for under £90, rigged it up easily & sat back to enjoy. Picture quality is fine, sound too, it plays mp3, cd, vcd, svcd, cdr, and of course dvd.
Unfortunately mine has a problem. After about 10 mins of playback, (vcd or dvd) the machine locks up solid and has to be reset before you can get the disc out. I'm going to try another one or the pacific dvd1000 if I can get one. (read more)
