“A great play but not that scary”

★★★☆☆

written by reviewkitten on 21/11/2011

I went to see The Woman in Black a few months ago when the actors were Patrick Drury and Anthony Eden. I saw Ghost Stories shortly before and friends had recommended we come see this. Managed to buy some slightly cheaper tickets for an afternoon matinee to make an afternoon of it we had dinner afterwards. The show was pretty good. I won't mention any plot details as this could spoil it for anyone that wants to go and see it. It starts off slowly and gradually builds the tension. The two actors were both likeable and pulled off the roles convincingly. There were several instances of sudden noises and trick of the light effects used but it's to be expected when all you have is the stage to create a sense of atmosphere. I enjoyed the play. It didn't scare me as much as I had hoped but the story was compelling and once it got going the time seemed to fly by. I noticed that they have changed the cast now so cannot comment on how they perform but the show I saw was very good.

I went to see Woman in Black with my drama group because it was part of my cource, i quite liked it but, it depends on what you like, i liked the story and the two actors were excellent. The play is supposed to be quite scary, personally i did not find it scary but most people in the theatre did, the effects are fantastic since it is a live theatre.

Extremely thrilling and exciting performance of the Woman In Black. Both actors were good especially the young budding actor, i have seen a woman in black 5 times now and this was probably middle of the road. The older man wanting to retell the story was fairly good but lacked ability to build to tension and at times moments were thrown away. As far as the woman in black herself well, she was in a nutshell quite pathetic, she was a very good looking girl, that on many occasions shows her face this aspect of the performance is dissapointing as in past performances that i have seen have not been so clear, however all this taken on board for a first timer or someone that has seen it in london which for me was extremely poor and tired this touring production is not a bad interpretation, it certainly is alot more energetic than london. Dont waste your money on the fortune when you can be in the stalls for 12 quid on the tour. I paid 30 pounds to go to the fortune and was extremely dissapointed. overall go and see it and enjoy an exciting and tense experience.

I went to see an evening performance. Whilst I can't stand things that make me jump I actually really enjoyed this show. It's a classic ghost story and I ended up sitting there wanting the plea with the main character not to go looking for trouble. By the end I was on the edge of my seat and jumping out of it quite regularly. The only down point would be the really loud sound effects at the end, it was unbearable for such a small theatre.
