“Hands down the best game on a console”

★★★★★

written by on 13/02/2012

This game is amazing. It was what finely broke me into the Xbox. Its like knights of the old republic and you can use the biotics its like you have jedi powers. The story and reveal at the end is amazing and with the actions and choices you make altering future choices on Mass Effect games, this franchise is one i will love to play as the xbox evolves.

“Amazing”

★★★★★

written by Howler452 on 24/01/2012

I've loved Sci-Fi since I first watched Star Wars as a little boy. The fact that the future could maybe look like that was something that amazed me and it only got better and better as the rest of the movies were made. I never thought I could find something that could equal or surpass Star Wars. Then came along Mass Effect. Now I'll say this now I didn't play this the year it came out. I wasn't allowed to have intense video games like this at the time. I only recently played it and boy was I suprised. It was a fresh, new idea with Sci-Fi and to me, it surpasses Star Wars by just a little bit. First I'll talk about what I liked. Now I'm not a fan of 3rd person shooters except for the Uncharted series and Star Wars: Battlefront in the 3rd person view, but Mass Effect really made a good mix of both the 3rd person shooter and RPG elements. It took a little while to get used to of course but after a while, I really knew my way around the menus for weapons and armor and for switching gear for me and my team. Next, the graphics. For 2007, the graphics were really good, but there were times when they looked a little out of place compared to some other games I've played. The faces for the humans look fairly real and they're fun to look at. But what really caught my attention was the detail put into the design for the aliens like Turians, Krogan, Salarian and Asari. Whenever I saw them on screen, I never took my eyes off them. Third, the voice acting was some of the best I had ever heard. The voice cast was amazing, getting stars like Seth Green and Jennefer Hale, who has done a lot of work for previous Bioware games. And finally, there's the story. At first it's pretty basic. You go after a guy who's betrayed your superiors and try to stop his plans. But then you discover something more at work and I won't explain that because I don't want to spoil it for people who haven't played the game yet. Now for the things I didn't like. Well more like thing that I didn't like because there's so much I love about this game. But for something I didn't like, it would have to be the driving sequences on the truck called the Mako. Oh sure they were fun, but the control was awkward and it was hard for me to avoid high intensity shots from enemies. I know it's a bit of a nit-pick, but that's just how I feel. The Verdict: Mass Effect is a stunning game that truly is a work of art. It's got great visuals, voice acting, a pretty good combat system, but some awkward controls with the driving segments. Overall, the game gets a 4.5/5 from me. I'd reccomend it and Mass Effect 2 to anyone who loves sci-fi, 3rd person shooters, RPG's or a bit of all three.

“Storyline, Dialog, Voice Acting - I loved the...”

Storyline, Dialog, Voice Acting - I loved the everything about the story. The dialog, body and facial animations are great. The side quests are really just too simple though, and compared to the main story are a little dull and I found after doing a few I didn't bother with anymore. I really think this is the rare kind of game that could be made into a movie based on the main storyline.

The artwork is a joy for me as a sci-fi fan. You need some decent hardware to run it but if you can at least get the settings to med/good it's nice eye candy.

Combat system not great but still quite good. AI a little lacking, but still fun to combine biotic powers with conventional weapons.

Technical problems on PC. I didn't play on xbox360 so can't say about that , but I had many session where I would be crashing to desktop every 20min on average, sometimes completely killing my pc and forcing immediate reset reboot. A real joy killer when you are trying to immerse in the whole experience. Other sessions I played hours of smooth play, and boy what a difference.

Overall I have to highly recommend this game. The crashes are by far the worst element and if you get lucky here you're in for some fun.

I really don't care for rpgs now, with all the click on this character to attack, but kotor, I enjoyed. The same studios made mass effect, and it really shows, but now they've made it so it's more like a tactical shooter, duck behind cover, squad commands, grenades, and it still retains the jedi powers like throw or weapon sabotage. I really like this game. The plot was good for a sci-fi shooter, but nothing extraordinary.

Right now it is easily in my top five games.

Amazing game with the best story line ever created, well worth $60, and way more, Mass Effect has amazing graphics, amazing sound, one of the best gamplay stories I have so far played for the xbox 360. The character interaction however is by far my favorite aspect of this game and the reason I well recommend Mass effect.

written by Galbytorix on 15/02/2008

Mass Effect is a brilliant RPG in which a rogue elite soldier alleys with an supposedly destroyed species of alien and try to awaken a mythological godlike ancient force that nearly destroyed the universe 50 thousand years ago and your amazingly precisely customized character or the default character of John/Fiona Shepard must stop him with your eventually expanding team of multiple species joining you as you progress through the game. The amazing dialogue of which you can choose responses is incredibly sensitive and the interactivity of the speech is amazing. With brilliant graphics and amazing voice articulation Mass Effect has superior definition to many, many other 3rd person shooters. With Seth Green playing character and other famous actors playing characters, this game has amazing combat and reality mode sure to keep you entertained with the interactive strip club. Mass Effect is a brilliant trigger happy go lucky amazing game and is a must buy and will keep you extremely excited for eternity especially if you have XBOX LIVE.
