We bought a Vango Colorado 800DLX in August 2009 so that our 2 boys could have a bedroom pod each. We used it several times and found there was plenty of room for the 4 of us and our table, chairs and suchlike. Each time we used it we managed to have dry weather so didn't find out there was a manufacturing fault with 2 of the seams not being sealed properly until August 2010. We took it back to Go Outdoors who informed us initially that as it was 1 week over it's year warranty we may have to pay for a repair, but then told us that as Vango give a longer warranty they would send the tent to AMG for repair (Vango service centre). AMG were very good and attempted a repair but said they weren't happy with the appearance of the repair and would offer a replacement. Due to the Colorado not being made any more they have now replaced the Colorado with a Kasari 800 (and also swapped the carpet and footprint to suit). We have had excellent aftersales service from AMG after initial confusion was resolved as to who between AMG and Go Outdoors was supposed to be dealing with the exchange.

Spent a week on a cliff top at whitby with VERY strong winds. It took a little longer to put up but this was to be expected in a howling gale.It still took only my wife and myself an hour to erect including two of the 3 bedrooms. After a very pleasant but windy week there were no broken poles or any problems whatsoever. A brilliant tent. I can't praise it highly enough. If I had to pick a fault it would only be that the tent compartment in the storage bag could have been a little bigger, theres lots of room for the poles and bedrooms but its a tight squeeze for the tent. Don't think twice, buy one!

“I purchased the Vango Colorado 800 DLX (2010 model)...”

★★★★★

written by on 31/07/2010

I purchased the Vango Colorado 800 DLX (2010 model) after a lot of internet research and reading reviews online. My partner and I put it up in the garden to practise before potentially making fools of ourselves on a campsite. After reading reviews that said it was difficult to put up and erquired 4 people, I was keen to give it a go. The result - it was an absolute breeze! Dead easy to put up by 2 adults. The instructions were easy to follow and the tent and poles are colour coded so that the correct poles go in the right place. It took us about 40 mins to have it up, pegged and the inner sleeping "pods" attached.
Compared to other similar size tents, this is great value for money. I got it online from J&R Leisure through their Ebay shop for £275 + £5 postage - £20 cheaper than anywhere else and it arrived the next day.
The 2010 model has a built in ground sheet so no problems with draughts, etc. The 2 smaller (2 person)sleeping pods are ok for 2 kids but would be very cosy for 2 adults! The larger (4 person pod) is a good size and has a divider to split it into 2 rooms for privacy if needed. We have 3 kids and have camp beds for them. The best use of space is for our 2 girls to use the larger pod and our boy to use one of the smaller pods. There's plenty of room for the camp beds. We use the other small pod which just fits our double airbed and no more - which is fine.
The central dome is huge - I'm 6 ft tall and can comfortably walk around without bending down in the living space. We bought a folding picnic table which sits in the living area and there's still loads of space, especially with the porch area. I highly recommend this tent for family camping!

Being a confirmed "Anti-Camping" stalwart, I was convinced by my partner to try thr canvas thing; I thouroughly enjoyed a week by the sea but we needed more space.... a 5 berth was too small for beds, fridge, wardrobe, TV etc. We read all the reviews and decided upon the Colorado 800DLX. WOW, we wern't disappointed, space, comfort and superb build from a fab manufacturer. We bought the footprint, fitted carpet and canopy. This is luxury camping on a grand scale. A fantastic product!!!!

we bought the vango colarado 800 dlx to accomidate our growing family it was in the sale and cost £200 but having used it several times over the summer hols we would happily have payed twice that (thats some prase from my hubby belive me!) its definatly a two man job but after 25 mins we were putting the kettle on for that essentail first brew. the weather on our last trip was horibble with wind and rain for three days it got a good soaking and stood up to the gale no problems and because its so roomie inside we had space for 9 of us to play and chat with out getting on top of each other or the bedding which always used to end up coverd in muddy footprints with our much smaller old tent.the only down side was getting the thing compleatly dry as the bad weather continued after we got home we aired it in our living room which still wasent big enought to pull it out right so we had to keep turning it for a day or so if your thinking of buying this tent iwouldent hessitate to reccoment it.happy camping

Bought the Vango Colorado 800 DLX tent for £200, went to Yorkshire for the bank hols, I'm a camping virgin apart from my army days. Down to the tent: easy to erect with two, instructions were clear, bought a footprint,£30 which was well worth it, tent is spacious but you would have to be on more than friendly terms to get 4 in the big pod. Stood up to lots of wind and rain. Only thing wrong was entrance needs an awning which I shall purchase before my next jolly. happy camping!

We just spent 2 weeks in the Vango we are a family of 4. Easy to put up about 45 mins and we are new to camping. We had only had 1 night of rain and by god did it rain,in the morning we were one of the few dry tents. sewn in ground sheet is fantastic no drafts or unwanted insects. lots of room inside we only had 2 of the bedrooms in and used the area were the 3rd bedroom is supposed to go as the kitchen. As there is a second door there

“Note - 2009 model - now with sewn in groundsheet. ”

Note - 2009 model - now with sewn in groundsheet.

Bought Vango Colorado 800 DLX as a replacement for another manufacturer's tent which failed big time within a few years of careful ownership & was an expensive tent so very annoying.

We spent some time choosing this tent - priorities being space due to family & friends camping together & quality & design with regards to the Scottish weather - not always ideal for a large family tent - this one should stand up to strong winds well due to its shape - our tunnel tent had to be pitched carefully to avoid it collapsing inwards in strong winds.

Tent was easy to pitch the first time despite size although I wouldn't want to pitch it single handed. Colour coded poles make it very easy. No doubt pitching will get quicker the more we do it.

Enormous amount of living & sleeping space - we also bought the optional extension & how nice it was to be able to sit in comfort in the evening instead of being eaten alive/swept away by howling gales! It also means you can keep wet/muddy gear outside the main tent.

I had the best night's sleep I've ever had in a tent - no draughts, no bugs & no rolling into the side of the tent as we slept in the 4 berth pod!

The only downsides to this tent would be the pitch size required - it is a large unit with the extension but having coped with a 5 berth tunnel tent for some years I just love all the space & headroom.

It also takes up a fair amount of space in the car & is heavy for a single person lift when in it's stowage bag.

As a family of 4 with 2 young children and both adults with very limited camping experience we found the Vango Colorado very easy to erect and very spacious although i would say the 4 sleeping area would require smaller people than us. I would suggest it is a spacious 2 and tight 3 person area.

No problems at all here. Don't know why others found the Vango Colorado 800 DLX difficult to erect. I found it very easy - just a bigger version of my 3-man Vango! Could put it up on my own. Put it up pretty quickly with some assistance. Everything colour-coded. No worries.

Loads of space, inners are great, groundsheet fits perfectly (so another surprising comment by others there...!) we had a very windy time and had no issues at all. Really happy with this tent. Huge. Not expensive (especially if you dig around for a barely-used second-hand one on eBay). I can stand up in it, and I'm over 6ft tall! Sleeps 8 in theory, but sleeps a family of 4 *really* comfortably. Double air-mattresses all round! =)

Having worked for Keycamp and Eurocamp for 4 years and leisure camped for many more I can safely say I am a very hardened and experienced camper and I very much regret buying this tent and wished that I had seen the Outwell range of tunnel tents before buying it. As it is I am now purchasing an Outwell and putting the Vango Colorado 800 DLX up for sale and i will just live with the guilt of burdening some other poor soul with it, though they'll get it at a bargain price!.

We are a family of four and have just used our new tent for the first time. It is light and airy and despite having friends and family with us, we still found it to be very spacious. We tried it out knowing the forecast was strong winds and heavy rain and have to say, its structure was sturdy and we stayed cosy and dry! We enjoyed all the features this tent has to offer - thumbs up all round.

Being a camping novice I had spoken to a number of other people before choosing a Vango tent, as other people seemed to think that these tents were one of the best. In my opinion, if that's the best that tent manufacturers have to offer then there is a gaping hole in the tent market that needs to be filled. I am now looking for another tent but I'm afraid I will be staying clear of Vango tents in the future. Not too nice spending the night in the car with my 9 and 3 year old kids.

It took me and my partner about 40 mins to have it set up. It was dead easy - the poles are colour coded so you can see exactly where they go. Your 2007 model doesn't have a sewn in groundsheet, hence your problems, but the 2010 model does and it's fine.
