We got the bed and breakfast package for $118. It was worth it. But they tried to charge us again for breakfast.
We saw a black bear right up close to the car on the way up the mountain. Deer up by the lodge and 2 squirrels in the forest. Try and get to see The General Sherman tree and Grants Grove, also Beetle rock is a granite rock with an amazing view and not a hike to get there.
There was another convenience store at Grants Grove, but not meals, only snacks.

“Given the fact that this is pretty much a monopoly...”

Given the fact that this is pretty much a monopoly operation, I cannot not-recommend this hotel. Otherwise, you will have to stay at the hotels outside the park 40 min drive away. I did eat at the restaurant, and food was excellent. Staffs were all nice, but did mess up my reservation. Overall, it is a convenient place, but not necessarily a great place. (read more)
