“Best Motorhome I ever owned”

★★★★★

written by JSu2016 on 08/07/2016

A great little had, had mine since 2010 and no issues to report. It's spacey and comfortable, with plenty of room for two children, two adults and a dog. Runs extremely well and pulls up hills easily. I have the 1991 petrol version with the 2.0 liter engine and although it's not the most fuel economical but I'm getting around the 25 MPG out of it. They hold a decent value, but the interiors can be a bit dated.

“Talbot Express - Elddis Autoquest 270 Motor Caravan”

★★★★☆

written by Gotno_Gizmo on 16/02/2013

I bought my 1990 Talbot Express based Elddis Autoquest 270 in 2009. That was over three years ago and I continue to enjoy using it. It came with 51,000 miles on the speedometer and I have added a further 20,000 miles since then. Apart from the UK touring, I have toured through 17 European countries, including the more off the beaten track Albania and Ukraine. Because I am away for prolonged periods I tow a baggage trailer, as it is impossible to keep all of my needs stored in the van. The 2 litre petrol engine averages out at 23 mpg. The Elddis body is still void of any water ingress even in the worst conditions. I tried living in the van in sub zero temperatures, but the van is not winterized. Water systems froze and the amount of interior heating required caused much condensation within the van. The sponge mattress in the van's luton pod over the driver's cab became damp and one's feet where always cold! Similarly in more than +35C temperatures the van's insulation was not capable of keeping the van cooler inside. Apart from replacement tyres, I have replaced the two onboard leisure batteries, and the vehicle's battery. I have also replaced the exhaust system, exhaust manifold gasket, front suspension shock absorbers, most wheel bearings, and rear brake shoes (much mountain work). I have also had much electrical wiring repaired or modified, not only because of perished insulation and corrosion, but to allow extra 12 volt / 230 volt habitation power sockets for TV, computer, and other gizmos. However, my £8500 investment to date (which includes the the original £5100 purchase price) remains to provide good value, continuing to merit this expenditure, by offering me freedom to move around at will with so many mornings of opening the curtains upon another new panorama in yet another location!

“bought 270 autoquest (1989) in feb 2010, our first...”

★★★★☆

written by on 16/06/2010

bought 270 autoquest (1989) in feb 2010, our first van,no fault of eldiss but it is not a racing machine(2.5 deisel, non turbo)but it pulls great, hills no problem, also no fault of eldiss is that where floor of van meets floor of cab there is a drop(i put in a false floor to level it up, cutting round pedals etc and carpeting right through, it looks much nicer.
sailed through mot(underneath was rust free) good for an 89.
ours has a rear door, not by choice, but i cant find a problem with this arrangement(some people dont like it).
as is to be expected of most motorhomes space in kitchen is limited, so work surfaces are valueable, why the maker chose to drop down a level after the sink-top i dont know(leaving about ten inches of top),as a result i went into diy mode , brought it up to sink level, which gave us(other half)a work surface of over four feet.
the beds are great, not much fuss to set up, the top one (which i use) is fun to get into(but any one not to agile might not manage very well).
build quality is good for its time.
one other thing is want to put a bike rack on the back (where door is),!!!
i will get round that.
overall it is a great peice of kit (only 18 feet long, goes on ferries for price of car),drives well , two people can get by without to much shuffling round each other, i did not expect this van to be as good as it turned out to be, it s even got a wardrobe and a loo.
only regret is that my other half has made me put three betty-boop stickers on the van, so if you see us on road, it was her idea.
regards, john wonfor.

Just went camping over the weekend in my elddis, I've had real problem with water leaking under the floor through the pipes. Anyone fire me some points on for fixing the problem?
