Good Points: Nice looking estate car, good build quality, comfy, safe, excellent handling with 4x4 traction on wet roads. A lot of car for the money second hand. Its a Jag.

Bad Points: Shocking fuel economy, terrible auto gearbox, diff 'whine' on motorway, interior is not up to kids and dogs and poor boot size. Poor re-sale values.

General comments: Bought a Jaguar X Type 2.5 Litre V6 Estate from a main dealer 3 months ago. Brilliant drivers car or at least it would be if they had bothered to put a decent gearbox in it. The auto relentlessly shifts up and down especially when trying to go up hills at a constant speed.
The fuel economy is terrible, I reckon I have been getting about 17 to the gallon round town and not much better on a motorway cruise. I have owned Range Rovers, Lancia Integrale's and other high powered sports cars over the last 17 years. None of them have been so bad on fuel. I even took the car for a check over at the dealer as I was so concerned but was told the car was fine!
The boot is a poor size, I have two dogs, one of which is a Rhodesian Ridgeback (big) they struggle to get in the car - No such problems with my wifes new civic. I also go shooting and have to break the barrell of my shotgun before I put it in the boot, I can't fit all my clobber in unless I drop the seats. I bought a new mountain bike recently and dropped the seats thinking it would fit in - no such look I had to take the bike to bits to get it in. I had to take the bike for a service last week and fitted the whole bike in the wifes civic with no problems.
All this is a shame as it is a nice car overall and would be ideally suited to you if you don't own dogs, or have much you need to put in it. Then again if this was the case you wouldn't buy an estate car in the first place.
I have just traded mine in as I am so disappointed with it and am awaiting its replacement with bated breath and a much healthier bank balance!
