“Unreliable for recreational use”

Written on: 11/07/2012

We have a lovely 2010 Transit Connect, but after two years of use - mostly around town - its transmission is faltering, unreliable. It requires several trips to the dealer a month for transmission repairs (under warranty). This is inconvenient when trying to plan weekend outings. I wouldn't recommend this vehicle as recreational. It must be driven slow, and kept lightly loaded. It is a pretty little putt-putt, without horsepower. Aside from that, it is a beautiful-looking vehicle… Read Full Review

“Transit Connect Proper van”

Written on: 01/11/2011

Transit Connect its a company van not mine its used and abused although always serviced. I am also very qualifed to comment, first the build is excelent built like e real transit and not made of tin like its competition. i have done 100.000 but it had 35.000 on before i had it so 135.000 miles, its been up and down the motorway and offroad even got it stuck once which is quite hard as generally it goes any where. it has had a battery and exhaust front fog light and an alternator ( well 2… Read Full Review

“Great small van”

Written on: 20/08/2011 by lightning (21 reviews written)

I've had my Transit Connect T200 for 3 years and it's a great van. Good load area, light airy cabin with large glass area, and good to drive. I have the 110ps engine and the van goes like a rocket. It will cruise happily at motorway speeds, and manages 40mpg round town/short journeys if driven with a degree of care. Unusually for a van it's great fun to drive with responsive steering and good handling (for a van anyway) I fitted a rear anti-roll bar, standard on every variant except the T200… Read Full Review

Written on: 02/09/2010

Bought this van from new and all I can say is that I absolutely detest driving it. You put you foot on the throttle nothing happens then wham it slams you back in your seat. The throttle is so sensitive it is nigh on impossible to maitain a constant speed. You have to have your wits about you at all times because you don't know how it is going to react. Ford's answer: "That's how it is suppose to be." That is the only downside but it is a major one. Personally I think they should be recalled to… Read Full Review

My Transit Connect was the same when I first got it. It's due to the engine needing some miles to loosen up.
At first I felt that it was bordering on dangerous pulling out of junctions, but after a while the fault went away. The engine also became smoother at low RPM, pulling away from about 1200 RPM in 4th where it shuddered under 1500 RPM at first.
It took about 20,000 miles before things were really improved, and to be honest another 10,000 before the issue was fully resolved.
It's now on 37,000 and is perfect.

“Bought this transit connect tdci second hand and...”

Written on: 07/08/2010 by billy1and2 (14 reviews written)

Bought this transit connect tdci second hand and needed to put a New diesel pump on it within MTHS. OK its second hand and it had done a few miles so i did expect a few problems. The it needed 4 new injectors.(£1000) fitted and coded. Then it had starting problems so fitted new starter motor (genuine). Old starter would not turn engine over fast enough to get the pressure up enough from the new diesel pump but turned over fine. Then it started to cut out when going along the road at any speed… Read Full Review

“I believe the good points of the Ford Transit Connect,...”

Written on: 05/03/2009 by hinto (1 review written)

I believe the good points of the Ford Transit Connect, out-weigh the bad, and when I change I will get another one
Working the costs out the Transit Connect sits about 30% cheaper than the Astra van we got keeping it on the road. However the economy is better on the Astra, although, to be fair the Astra doesn't hold anywhere near the amount of weight as the Transit Connect.

Its time the designers ought to design a van that can be serviced on cheaper as the service times for changing clutches… Read Full Review

We have a 2010 Transit Connect and already the transmission has become severely compromised - it is unreliable, and has to visit the shop every couple of weeks. We have everything on warranty, but this vehicle is a nuisance. Great for around town, 35 mph. But it is NOT a recreational vehicle intended for weekend outings, loaded with camping gear. Hills, mountain passes, forget it - it must be driven very slowly, and will eventually sputter and spin. If we get a new transmission we'll still just use it as a little putt-putt for getting to work - this is NOT why we bought it! We wanted a van that could be reliable for all-purpose uses. We would never recommend this vehicle to people who want out-of-town recreational use - it has to stay close to home, and the service mechanics at the Ford dealer!

I have done over 250,000 miles in various small vans and the Connect is the best so far. No problems with reliability at all (that other chap doesn't work for Vauxhall/Renault/Fiat or similar does he?). I've had the van since new and it's never been back to the dealer except for routine maintenance… Read Full Review

I've driven my new style Berlingo for 277,000 miles and love the handling, ride and performance, and will definitely buy another. I drove a hired Transit Connect for a month, and it was a dreadfu vehicle. It cornered like a roller skate, and I had to concentrate hard on the throttle to keep any kind of speed up! Wind noise was awful from 65mph upwards!

Written on: 13/03/2007 by bazz1006 (1 review written)

I think the Ford Transit Connect is the most overrated overpriced van in history, I've had so many problems I don't no where to start, the clutch, master and low end slave cylinders, head lights, today the wheels shaft where replaced on the front as well as the started motor in the same day, the top engine mounts both sides and the gear box mount, this van has only done 85k miles and it seems like it has done 285k miles, any body out thinking of buying one don't, they are nothing like the… Read Full Review
