Zenith's website states that they have over 70 years of experience in the personal insurance market, but you wouldn't believe it based on their claims-handling procedures and customer service. By their own admission it takes them about a week to read incoming post and emails, but worse are the delays that come from the communication within their own network of claims handlers at their "appointed service provider to (and not an agent of) Zenith" [ed. footnote on their own letter].
This company, GHL, along with their repair agents NNS, are woefully slow in communicating amongst themselves, let alone the customer; weeks, again, are the quickest anything gets logged and passed on. They have also repeatedly offered different statements for all manner of details like whether the car is repairable (scratches to roof!), who will pick the car up for an estimate, how long approval might take, etc.
I had an estimate from my own garage not long after the event, which their appointed engineer considered too expensive. I had no problem in them using their own garage network so long as the repairs were done right. Over a month later, after having to spend hours calling various parties myself, I finally received a call from the assigned garage and it turns out that even they have to submit their own estimate, which, again needs to be approved. What's the point in having so-called approved repairers, with whom they have pre-arranged labour rates, if you have to vet their work over and over again on a case by case basis that takes yet more time?
Perhaps they think customers will give up after a while, I don't know.
Somewhat luckily, I took out the policy through the AA, and finally called them to complain. Only then did the other parties start to move, so my advice is if you absolutely have to use Zenith, go through the AA and complain to them at the first sign of inaction. The one star is for the AA, who will hopefully ultimately be able to apply pressure on them. As for customer service this website won't allow a "no star" rating....
