“Cheap and it shows”

After having an accident and the other party omitting liability as they hit us and no claims being made by either side they still decided to put up the price of our insurance based on this fact... I wonder why we went elsewhere - the new company was also cheaper!

My car was stolen through my fault of my own but you'd have thought I did it the way I was treated. They offer you a pittance to replace your car. They will screw you over. They will not treat you as a valued client. Do yourself a favour and steer well clear. These people are out to fleece you. All they want to do is screw you down until you accept their worst offer, nothing you can buy a car with!!! steer well clear!!!

“Diabolical! Avoid at all costs”

Insured my car fully comp Aug 2013 as had best deal, my car was written off Jan 2014 (other driver admitted full liability) the solicitors they use are equally as useless, still injured can't walk without crutches and im relying on NHS as apparently there's no private treatment in my area. I had to pay up my insurance in full in Jan even though I did it monthly, I even had to pay my own excess, they advised me to get a hire car & bill it to other guys insurance to hurry things along as by Mid March nothing sorted, later that 1st day of having hirecar Enterprise ring me to say otherside admitted full liability day after accident...I was never told this even though i rang Chaucer weekly for updates so I looked a fool! Its now Aug 2014 & had an email saying my renewal starts today. ..well how when I've had no correspondence, my car is scrapped, and thought I'd finished dealing with you in May so now I have to ring Chaucer again. ...great!!!

“GOOD LUCK DEALING WITH CHAUCER”

I had to deal with the claims department about damaged caused by a lorry insured by Chaucer. It took weeks to resolve and not to my satisfaction, The lorry driver denied all knowledge of the incident even though I had two witnesses who spoke to the lorry driver but Chaucer were not interested. They had no interest in what I had to say and would not answer three simply questions just the same bland response.

“No refund or good will gesture”

Very dissapointed when I sold my VW Camper as on cancelling the policy (obviously not needed) I was not offered any refund or good will gesture even though the policy was less than 3 months old...I was told well that just what we do and its written in your policy document...written in the document or not thats bad practice, and not good customer care, thanks for nothing!

“Cancelled Car Policy whilst in EU”

I took out F/Comp car cover with Chaucer through Swinton on 1st November 2013. Swinton were ok. I was planning a trip to Spain using the car the next month, December 7th. I had already enquired about the 90day limit out of the UK and enquired if this could be extended as I had more trips planned. I did not get a reply. I wrote Chaucer without result. I then e mailed Chaucers CEO and asked if he could look at this. I eventually got a reply and spoke to Swinton who informed me on 18th FEBRUARY 2014, the policy had been cancelled by Chaucer, giving no reason. If they had not rang me I would have been uninsured driving around Spain. I was shocked and very upset. Swinton immediately organised fresh cover for me. I had paid Chaucer over £400 and they were to give me back £150. They are robbers, dont do business with them. If I had been stopped by the police or worse been involved in an accident I would have been totally screwed.

NEVER IN OVER 20 YEARS HAVE I BEEN SO FUMING AT A INSURANCE COMPANY. TRYING TO TELL ME I DON'T LIVE WHERE I LIVE WHEN I HAVE PROVIDED ALL DOCUMENTS REQUESTED. LICENSE, BILLS, LOGBOOKS, COUNTERPART EVERYTHING. IN OTHER LITERALLY CALLING ME A FRAUD. I HAVE NEVER ACTUALLY WRITTEN A REVIEW BEFORE FOR ANYTHING BUT THIS HAS MADE ME EXTREMELY ANGRY AND DISAPPOINTED AND FELT AS IF I HAD TO DO THIS. NEVER EVER USE THEM! I WOULD RATHER WALK IN THE SNOW THAN HAVE A CAR INSURED BY THEM!

They take your deposit and a further payment via direct debit then cancel the policy. The log book was in my husbands name- same address They sent me a letter which didnt arrive until 7 days after the date of the letter asking me to transfer the name on the log book into my name. They gave me 21 days to do this. But due to the 7 day delay in getting the letter- left 14 days. DVLA State it can take up to 6 weeks to change log book details. Log book was sent but did not arrive within 14 days. Chaucer would not give me any extension- and cancelled the policy. No refund given. So I paid over £400 for less than 5 weeks cover. I complained several times to various people. I was then sent a letter 2 weeks later informing me my policy would be cancelled the day after. So, they told me I had no insurance and refused to give me an extension- but then sent me a letter saying I was covered for a further 2 weeks. That letter didnt arrive until the 2nd cancellation date came into effect. By that time I had the name change on the Log book but they refused to accept it. I had to take out short term car insurance because Chaucer told me I was not insured- when I was- Costs incurred for short term cover are over £200 for that period. No refund given. They dont know what they are doing. They pass you around from person to person. They all give different information that contradict each other. They do not take complaints seriously. I am going straight to the financial Ombudsman Do not use this company if you want peace of mind Avoid at all costs The sooner this company goes bust the better.......!

Chaucer were by far the cheapest quote for our second family car at under £400. The next best quote by other companies was over £600! Upon initial contact them we were welcomed by a pleasant member of the team - very helpful and patient and answered ALL questions without any of the usual attitude other companies seem to have. When we had finalised the exact car we were buying we contacted them once again to take out the policy. This time we spoke to a different member of the team but he was just a friendly, helpful and patient. He went through everything very efficiently and we achieved what we set out to do without any problem whatsoever. It seems increasingly rare these days to get such brilliant customer service so WELL DONE to Chaucer and especially the two people we spoke to.

An insurance company at last that rewards loyalty with cheaper premiums for clients that stay with them than for new applicants! Descriptions of policies and instructions were clear and easy to understand. There was minimum waiting time when contacted by phone and the advice offered was helpful and straightforward. “Customer service and getting back excess”

So Chaucer what a crowd you should never ever use this company, I was given this company by Swinton who are supposed to deal with them on your behalf, my story so far. I and my wife and some friends were sitting in the front garden when my car parked just outside my fence was hit in the side by another driver reversing at speed, he drove off but we found him in minutes, called police etc, same day passed on all info to Swinton accident number, because of the type of Incident was passed onto Chaucer direct, after a number of phone calls and they telling me they were waiting for a cheque from the other drivers insurance before they could pay me, anyway i harrassed them, oh they had written my car off, I as eventually paid, then they told me they would get my excess payment back for me it would take a few weeks, i am still waiting, last week i was told i would receive It this week Monday, guess what not arrived, i called chaucer an ignorant pygmy answered, argued that they were waiting for a cheque by post from the other insurers, then the other insurers manager had to approve it, the excuses went on, so I am still at this point, between Swinton and this crowd of del boys ggggggrrrrrrrrrrrr

“Excellent telephone service”

I had to contact Chaucer using a speaker phone as I am hard of hearing. Chaucer had sent my renewal promptly along with the cover note by post but I wanted to use a cheaper quote that I had obtained from CompareTheMarket. I had originally changed my insurance provider to Chaucer as a result of using the comparison website previously, and, although they were the 2nd cheapest I wanted to remain with them. I was informed I could cancel the renewal and still take up the cheaper option using the reference number from Compare over the phone and still get my meerkat! The operator was extremely professional in his manner, very thorough in checking through my details to ascertain why the quote was cheaper and to ensure all my details were correct. He explained everything very clearly and was very patient and sympathetic to my hearing impediment and above all he made me feel that I was important and clearly understood every stage of the process in sorting out my policy.
