Avenue Q is a comedy musical using puppets as the main characters. I went to see it with my sister as a birthday present for her and we both thoroughly enjoyed the show.
It takes a little while to get used to at the beginning, as the puppeteers are live on stage holding their puppets and no attempt is made to mask them. However, the story and characters soon take over and you soon get used to the format.
It is very much a more 'adult' comedy, which somewhat subverts the form of puppetry such as 'Sesame Street' and 'The Muppets', including comedy numbers about racism and internet pornography! These are dealt with very well though and I don't think many people will be too offended by the content. A lot of the jokes are very funny and we found ourselves laughing out loud for large portions of the show.
The tickets can be on the expensive side (similar to a lot of London West End shows), but as a treat I'd say it's worth it.

This is the ultimate modern day musical. If you're fed up with do ray me and a spoonful of sugar than this could be your new cup of tea. This comedy musical combines music, dance and puppets! One of the misconceptions of this show using puppets, is it's for children, think again; not really suitable for anyone under 12 I would say. Within only ten minutes of the play you'll soon forget that there were any humans controlling the puppets at all! However if you are easily offended do urge on the si ...- Read Lew02's review (121 words)
