WARNING: Tescos don't do pre-authorisation forms for your vets. My dog was due to have some X-rays done and a lump removed. The vet informed me that the cost of this would be approx £600. We don't have that kind of money just laying around but luckily (or so we thought) we have insurance through Tescos. The vet agreed to do the work as long as Tescos would send a pre-authorisation form to them (ie, agreeing to pay for the work). Tescos refused to do this and the vets won't operate with it. I now have a dog in pain and needing treatment which I cannot pay for yet my vets and Tescos are both refusing to budge. Be Warned: check with your vets exactly which insurance company they will deal with directly (my vets only do direct claims with Petplan) and check with your insurance company that they offer pre-authorisation forms and will deal directly with your vets.

Although I have not made a claim on my tesco dog insurance I would like to inform any prospective buyers of tesco insurance that that they have adopted the same "rogue traders" approach when it comes to renewing your policy. My insurance for one year was £11.00, when it came up for renewal one year later they increased it to £14.55. They had the cheek to inform me that they have reviewed the policy and that this is the best price. WHAT A LOAD OF OLD TOSH. I went straight on the net an ...

We have had our policy for 10years for one dog and 7 years for the younger dog and have made one previous claim for the older dog that was eventually paid after they had disputed our vets diagnosis.
We have made a claim for the younger dog on 2/10/2009 following surgery and treatment on an infected salava gland. We are still waiting for this claim to be processed. Tesco blame a shortage of staff. I have pointed out that they do not delay in taking my monthly direct debits from my account. 29/ ...

Like someone else said I was dreading claiming given some of the reviews I have read. My dog had a painkilling injection for a problem with his leg, which he had a severe reaction to and ended up in emergency care overnight. The bill (being an emergency service) was almost £500 and Tesco have just paid it no problems at all. The only negative is it took them over a month to settle the claim - however I did ring to chase it and the lady was very apologetic for the delay and gave me an es ...

MY 8 year old Westie with impeccable teeth had a absess in his upper jaw. The vet said it was on top of the back molar and so it had to come out, as there was no other way of getting rid of the absess other that taking out the tooth and draining it away he had to go under the knife. If we had left it it can eat away at the bone in the face. Tesco refuse to even look at the claim as its a tooth mentioned in the calim so they wont cover teeth, they wont listen to me or the vet but I am still fig ...

Anyone thinking about pet insurance, do not be fooled by Tesco price or claim to care about customer service. I was tied into insuring my labrador who died after 14 years, when i contacted Tesco insurance they unbelieveably claimed the dog is still insured another month, no refund and claim the payments are a month in arrears.
I would not recomend Tesco, nothing but a cowboy oufit just after your money, no service same as their stores!

Our 7yr old Lab bitch after many tests & referral to a specialist has been diagnosed with a disease of the Pancreas (IPS)resulting in severe diarrhoea.
Tesco are claiming it is a pre existing condition because 1 month before the policy start she had a short lived bout of diarrhoea after eating compost in the garden, which was cured by starving for 1 day.She has now lost 10kg in weight & looks like a skeleton I am guided by our vet as to wether she is suffering I am told she is uncomfortale but n ...

This is my 1st year of being insured with Tesco and this is the only year in 10 yrs which i have had to make a claim. After reading some of the reviews i was dreading it! However i had no problems whatsoever. My 10 yr old staffie bull terrier had 2 tumors removed from his ear and side and Tesco paid up in full(£400+)within a week. All i paid was the £120 excess then they paid the vets direct, no messing around me paying it all then claiming it back, which i believe some companies make ...

PLEASE READ THE SMALL PRINT !!!!!

im a vet nurse and im warning owners who take out Tesco pet insurance !

like any insurance company they are quite willing to take your money but not giving it back .

when taking out a new policey from scratch always look at the following
    1. if its a 12 month policey or life long !
(12 months means if your pet has a condition or injury once you have taken out the policey, for example : arthritis of the pelvis ! insurance companys will only pay out for that c ...

I've never made any claims on any of my many various insrance policies I have had for many years, sadly my 3year old Spaniel dog died after a short illness. Tesco customer service was diabolical & they eventualy found an excuse not too pay a relatively small final bill. Wish I'd stayed with M&S cover. Its fair to say I detest Tesco as an organisation now.

I have claimed twice for my 2 cats - one for a fungal granuloma and the other for a foot injury. I have found them to be very helpful on the phone and my claims were paid quickly on both occasions.
We pay £12.50 p/m for 2 cats for £4000 max cover per illness which I think is reasonable. The only issue is the fact that they will only cover an illness for a maximum of 12 months. Therefore if they get an something like diabetes that needs treating for the rest of their lifetimes you wil ...

Tesco Pet Insurance are the worst. Insured my maine coon kitten with them. Five months later he developed colitis. Because the vet had recorded he had diarrhea due to being wormed and vaccinated on the first day. Tesco claimed it was an on-going condition and they wouldn't pay out on the claim.

My cat was recently left for dead by some uncaring driver, which was nice!!! We found the cat three days later in next door's garden. She ended up having to have a weeks specialist care at an animal hospital. Her eye was removed and her jaw wired up. She is now on the road to recovery thank god. I phoned Tesco up and they were generally very helpful and gave me the information I needed. I submitted my forms via the two vets I had to use (she got referred from my normal vet to a specialist) ...

Totally dissatisfied with Tesco Pet Insurance's service. Have had insurance with them for 11 years and never claimed. They now refuse to pay out as they are saying they only cover a 12 month period from first "Treatment" - however there was no treatment - just a test undertaken in 2006 when an op was not needed but now need one.

A test is not a treatment but they won't have it.

What an absolute waste of my money!!!!!!!!!

Tesco is a reasonable price, However I certainly WOULDN'T recommend Tesco especially if like me you only opt for the 12 month per condition policy. I have learnt the hard way... The policy maybe cheaper but you pay for what you get. My Labrador developed a illness which he has now for life and as he was only covered for 12 months, which has just expired he is now not insured for his problem. Ive since moved my policy, however the preexisting will never get insured again. Go for a policy with ...

No issues so far with Tesco Pet Insurance paying out. Took 3 weeks or so. Low level cover - you get what you pay for2500 is not a lot for a dog.

Extremely slow in settling claims. Anything under six weeks is rapid. The claim of being understaffed appears from other reviews to be their stock response. Will use any potential exclusion clause to avoid payment. Avoid this insurance if you want genuine cover.

I highly recommend tesco insurance but would like to point out how exspensive tests and treatment for dogs is,i found the standard cover is nowhere near enough.

You might as well put your money under your bed, because as your dog reaches 9, this insurance goes up a rediculous amount, and when heaven forbid you`re dog reaches 10, you won`t be able to afford it anymore and will have to give up and try to get cheaper insurance elsewhere! Is this insurance?
