Joined British Gas a few months ago, and as a student address we had to go through a complicated procedure to separate our bills. Customer services decided to call me back to save me a big phone bill as it would be a long call, and then texted me after the call was completed with what they had done for reference! Have since called them again and received the same great service. No long waits listening to cheesy music either. Overall have been amazed by the proffessionalism. Would highly recommend them!

I have been battling with British Gas regarding an erroneous transfer for a year now. I have never come across a more useless, ignorant, pathetic bunch of idiots in all my life. I was a customer years ago with BG. I told them then that I would never be so again. Thats hasn't stopped them though! No wonder so many people are returning to BG - you have no choice! Please avoid these people at all costs. They are vile.

After continually phoning to complain about a bill and being informed no one was available as everyone was in a meeting. I was then asked to leave my details and they would get back to me, this never happened and yet again I had to contact them to get the problem resolved. I then complained on their website that states "all complaints will be dealt with within 24 hours" (yet another lie). If this is the quality of service from the call centre and complaints department I dread to think how accura ...

Last year I was persuaded by a British Gas salesman that I could save money by switching my electricity supply to British Gas, who already supplied my gas. Suddenly, my montly gas payments increased from £20 to £79, despite the fact my usage had decreased, meaning I overpaid by nearly £500 by my last bill- was that just a way of them making interest on my money rather than me? Then there was the electricity. My bill tripled; I discovered that had not applied the night rate t ...

British Gas cannot seem to administer the most simple of things, such as a change of my address, and refuses to accept my meter readings, favouring instead their estimates (which led them to send me a bill for £8150 for 3 months' gas - I live alone in a small two bed flat). I can never get a straight answer out of their customer service. - assuming I have the time & money to stay on hold for 30mins or more on a charged line.
I email them and I never received a reply. They have sent me d ...

We moved into a new house and immediately received bills for gas and electricity from British Gas. We have always been with EDF Energy, have received really good service from them and nectar points. Anyway, we rung British Gas and told them that we would be switching to EDF Energy. They said this was fine. My partner explained to them that the readings on both bills were incorrect, and gave them the correct readings from our move-in date. They told us to ignore all previous bills and that th ...

Stay well away - smaller energy companies are much more helpful and you will usually get through quicker too when you do have a real problem it is dealy with. Service, call centres, call centre staff, there appears to be a non existant complaints procedure, frustration in trying to deal with them

British Gas continually put a block on my account being switched even after requests from energywatch to allow the account to switch as we were not in breach. Then started taking money out of my bank account with no bill or explanation. Then started sending me credited bills saying I didn't owe them anything, then started putting money into my bank account, now they say I owe them £1000 and they've referred it to a collection agency.
There is some very unhelpful and at times downright r ...

British Gas have cold called me in the past into a contract. There is a cancellation fee if the contract is broken. I received too many over-estimated bills. An automated service for the customer to call customer services if the contract is broken, which requires you, the customer to ring it only to speak to a call centre.

Absolutely shocking level of customer service! One hand just doesn't appear to know what the other hand's doing in their accounts dept.

I thought NTL were poor, but British Gas really are worse. I had the misfortune to have dealings with them in two properties I have occupied.

In the first case I was unaware British Gas were going to supply me, I never asked for it! The first I knew of it was a letter in the post welcoming me to them, when i hadn't spoken to them or had a visit at my door. I immediately rang British Gas and explained the situation and cancelled the switch. I then reported British gas to Ofgem who found no wrong ...

Last annual service was in Jan 2007 . They've just written to me saying next one is now due . I phoned to make appointment only to be told they won't be able to do it for at least another month.
How can they call that an 'annual' service?

Even as i have had to move i have not received my final bill but was advise i now owe them over £700 electricity and £500 for the gas. eh am i missing something here. My experience with this company has been very poor.At my previous address British Gas thought that they supplied my Gas / Elec but they didn't and I had to goto their HQ in Edinburgh to sort it out with them that they were not our supplier. Even after it was agreed that they were not our supplier they still sent me bills although they were for £0.00? This took over 4 months to sort out. But then they started to send incorrect bills demanding thousands of pounds! This caused me and my par ...

Having taken out a boiler servicing contract, was disappointed that it took seven separate British Gas visits to rectify slight water leak on boiler (it was just a gasket). This was followed by three NO-SHOWS for pre-arranged visits to repair a leaking joint on a water pipe, which continued to leak for two weeks resulting in us taking up the floorboards and putting a dish under the pipe. All told, British Gas has cost us a whole week of holiday days booked to let them in and they did not show ...

Moved house two years ago only to find out today that I am still paying money on the old house on the home care for the gas boiler, hence getting the rebate. Also we wanted to change our electric to British gas. We got a letter in janauary that it had been done. But today we found that it hadn;t and we are still with the other company.

This is not good, BG should fix this problem. I get overcharged every time and that money could have gone to better use when it was needed. Not everyone can afford to pay more than whats normal - it leads to financial struggle.

My British Gas nightmare started with the boiler making the sound of a boeing 747 landing the the house everytime the hot water was run. I called back in October to get it sorted. The end result? I have had the grandparents round FOUR times to let an engineer in, 2 x they didn't show, 1 x they 'had to order a part'.I have taken 3 x 1/2 days off work with 2x no shows and 1x plainly couldn't fix it.Come January it still felt like we lived on the 3rd runway of heathrow airport and BG still couldn ...

British Gas are a good company, but their general level of service could be improved.
As a lot of companies are raising prices, I may look at my options for cheaper prices from someone else, if British Gas are not competitive enough for me.
