Good Points: I can't think of any. You can get electric and gas from the same supplier. Is that a good point?

Bad Points: The customer is always wrong! BG claim to have read my electric meter yet it's wildly inaccurate. Despite me contacting them twice by phone and once by email, they still continue to harass me into paying a huge bill which I simply don't owe.

General comments: Absolutely shocking level of customer service! One hand just doesn't appear to know what the other hand's doing in their accounts dept.

I thought NTL were poor, but British Gas really are worse. I had the misfortune to have dealings with them in two properties I have occupied. In the first case I was unaware British Gas were going to supply me, I never asked for it! The first I knew of it was a letter in the post welcoming me to them, when i hadn't spoken to them or had a visit at my door. I immediately rang British Gas and explained the situation and cancelled the switch. I then reported British gas to Ofgem who found no wrong ...

Last annual service was in Jan 2007 . They've just written to me saying next one is now due . I phoned to make appointment only to be told they won't be able to do it for at least another month. How can they call that an 'annual' service?

My experience with this company has been very poor.At my previous address British Gas thought that they supplied my Gas / Elec but they didn't and I had to goto their HQ in Edinburgh to sort it out with them that they were not our supplier. Even after it was agreed that they were not our supplier they still sent me bills although they were for £0.00? This took over 4 months to sort out. But then they started to send incorrect bills demanding thousands of pounds! This caused me and my par ...

Having taken out a boiler servicing contract, was disappointed that it took seven separate British Gas visits to rectify slight water leak on boiler (it was just a gasket). This was followed by three NO-SHOWS for pre-arranged visits to repair a leaking joint on a water pipe, which continued to leak for two weeks resulting in us taking up the floorboards and putting a dish under the pipe. All told, British Gas has cost us a whole week of holiday days booked to let them in and they did not show ...

Moved house two years ago only to find out today that I am still paying money on the old house on the home care for the gas boiler, hence getting the rebate. Also we wanted to change our electric to British gas. We got a letter in janauary that it had been done. But today we found that it hadn;t and we are still with the other company.

This is not good, BG should fix this problem. I get overcharged every time and that money could have gone to better use when it was needed. Not everyone can afford to pay more than whats normal - it leads to financial struggle.

My British Gas nightmare started with the boiler making the sound of a boeing 747 landing the the house everytime the hot water was run. I called back in October to get it sorted. The end result? I have had the grandparents round FOUR times to let an engineer in, 2 x they didn't show, 1 x they 'had to order a part'.I have taken 3 x 1/2 days off work with 2x no shows and 1x plainly couldn't fix it.Come January it still felt like we lived on the 3rd runway of heathrow airport and BG still couldn ...

British Gas are a good company, but their general level of service could be improved. As a lot of companies are raising prices, I may look at my options for cheaper prices from someone else, if British Gas are not competitive enough for me.

The UK is increasingly part of a global market and what happens across the rest of the world, like natural disasters, developments in the Middle East and the price of oil, will impact on the cost of energy in the UK. This problem is not only with British Gas and electricity but in every provider. But the service is good with British Gas.

British Gas provide excellent piece of mind. They are always on hand if you need them, although sometimes (usually bank holidays) it can take a while to get in touch with someone on the phone. However, their service is impecible and the repair men are always polite and knowledgeable. They go out of their way to explain the problem in easy to stand language, which is a real help. The satisfaction comes from knowing that if you pay monthly there will be no hidden extras to any repairs you need ...

I moved house to find British Gas as my supplier. I had so much to do that I decided I woudl stick with British Gas. I called them and gave my details and a meter reading. I was advised my account would be set up. After around 4 months I still had no bill so I called British Gas. They advised me there had been a problem setting up my account. I questioned why nobofy had contacted me. The girl i spoke with merely grunted, I didnt get very far. Another month passes and still nothing from Br ...

I have had a faulty combi for 6 months, charged 2 times for same service, taken several days off work and British Gas failed to turn up on 3 occasions. Boiler has been part or temporarily repaired (Combi is still faulty) and each time I call up to ask to have the job done properly the reply is alway, "This is a new problem, you will have to pay again". The last time the engineer forgot to reconnect a heat sensor leaving me with hot water for 3 minutes! 10 days later problem corrected but now hav ...

Changing gas supplier was fairly easy with British Gas. The telephone staff were extremely helpful and the process from submitting final readings to receiving my first bill with British Gas was very pain free. The British Gas central heating cover is absolutely brilliant. Annual boiler /central heating checks and they are out within a few hours if an emergency is reported. Not the cheapest for gas, but their central heating cover and general service is second to none.

When I moved in to our new home I found our British Gas meter was registered to a shop down the road. That took several dozen phone calls over a 9 month period and someone calling to sort it out. Hopeless!
