we were being charged over 200 pound a month and found out our meter was faulty so they came to fit us a smart meter. this was showing we were using £1.40 - £1.50 a day way under what we were being charged. British gas agreed we were over paying and put our account on stop until they could work out a new estimated bill. this was 2 months ago we are still waiting for a new bill and a refund. we get weekly emails and letters saying we owe money and evertime we ring up they say o you shouldn't… Read Full Review

“WORST GAS AND ELECTRIC COMPANY EVER ”

I would never recommend British gas to anyone as they are the worst company to deal with. “WORST COMPANY EVER”

I can honestly say this has to be the worst company I have ever had the horror of dealing with. From the day we moved into our property they got our meters wrong, mixed up with another properties. We have called up over 10 times to rectify this issue each time we are promised calls back and that it needs to be escalated to higher authority. “Appauling ssrvice”

one star is too much, spent 1o months trying to sort out an account that they open for us without any permission, they say we owe £42 and have put in hands of debt collectors, called numerous time to explain the situation, operative assures me they have made notes on the account, next time you call nothing on the account, so you have to explain it all again, a total nightmare, avoid them at costs… Read Full Review

“How does this company make a profit with such bad...”

Where do I start? 1) British Gas closed my account by accident without my authorisation. 2) Then they take £1,621 out of my bank account for arrears on the account,without even telling me. 3) I give them new readings from the estimates they were using. Turns out British Gas were charging me over 7 times the amount of energy I was using. Similar - kept sending us estimated bills even though we had given several readings, they were not being applied to our account. Spent two hours on the phone with them one day trying to sort it out and explaining that the estimated bills were way more than we could possibly have used. Told us we owed £1800 so we did a u switch and went to another company leaving the British Gas bill in query with the Ombudsman. Told our new supplier what we were being charged by British Gas and they laughed - currently in credit with new supplier paying £70 a month on dual fuel. British Gas are still chasing their money - we keep throwing it back in query.

“DON'T sign up to BG; If you have, LEAVE as soon as you can”

This is a zero star company if truth be told. I'm someone who should, according to BG's own policies, receive additional help due to vulnerabilities (health/disabilities). Never happens. I've yet to speak to or hear from any employee who engages their brain before opening their mouth. “Unable to fix”

I have paid my British Gas subscriptions every month for years, paying as much as £40 a month. I recent time I hardly used them but i had a vanity sink fitted by my sister in laws ex about 6 months ago and he has done a runner. I asked British gas to fix it and they said they could because it was less than 12 months old. If i had lied and said it was 13 months maybe they would have fitted it. “Repair of heating system”

Booked a repair to heating system on Monday 18th January for Tuesday 12-6 slot. On Tuesday received a call to say unable to attend due to volume of work. Rearrange for Wednesday 20th,appointment carried out and boiler working. Broke down again Saturdays arranged appointment for 12-6. Repair carried out a fuse (the wrong fuse had been used on Wednesday). “Always happy British Gas customer”

During cold spell of last week, we had a power cut for a few hours which affected out streets back and front. When power was restored the boiler failed to function. Without heating and hot water very cold , and miserable, called British Gas engineer he found the circuit was gone. As soon as he got the part he fixed it. “Appalling customer service, money taken from wrong account”

Swapped in December 2015 to British Gas with Money Saving Expert group swap (swapped with them to other energy companies, and never had a problem before), but BG have been appalling. I added new Gas and Elec meter readings online when they were requested by BG. What a disgusting bunch of pirates they are. My story of utter incompetence is a long one so I have made a list: 1. They muck up my tariff - when I was living in rented accommodation and then moved out in June 2013 I rang in to close my account with my final readings expecting a final bill of around £60. This doesn't surprise me at all. I gave BG several chances to look at and correct their mistakes. After a 'thorough investigation' (their words), they cut and pasted the incorrect information straight from their original letter and into their 'thorough investigation' letter; still claiming these mistakes as verified correct. My evidence proving otherwise was ignored.
I hope you reported them to the Energy Ombudsman and the Information Commissioners Office. If not, do so NOW.

“Never deal with British Gas”

On the Tuesday night my Bathroom radiator would not heat, called out British Gas to fix it, they came on Thursday between 1-6 O.K. Just as the engineer pulled away it started to leak (never done it before) rang British Gas made an appointment for Monday between 8-1, engineer never turned up and never rang. “Homecare service”

On Thursday 12 November I telephoned Homecare Helpline for only the 2nd time in 7 years to report water pouring out of our overflow pipe and as the stopcock was seized I couldn't stop it. Told that as the water was outside the property it was not considered an emergency and an engineer would come on Monday I.e. In four days. I would just like to recommend British Gas Boiler Installation as I've had mine done over the last two days and I have to say the service has been absolutely fantastic! The 2 guys who did the work were so polite and completely professional throughout. I am so impressed by the actual job too.
