I switched over from Scottish Power to British Gas as part of a switching deal on a comparison site. The switch went smoothly and I only had to speak to British Gas customer service on a couple of occasions. On both occasions it was like a breath of fresh air. There UK support was a pleasure to speak too and all my questions were answered quickly and thoroughly. Fantastic! I know company's don't get things right 100% of the time but these have been great so far. No issues here. (read more)

I had the displeasure of dealing with British Gas over the course of five months. After up-selling me a Home care insurance policy, they attended a service visit, where they found two [minor] problems with my boiler. When I tried to arrange for an engineer to come out and solve the issues, I couldn't get an appointment for two months, so had to find another plumber in spite of having a contract with BG. On calling for some history, my new plumber was told that my boiler was condemned, and... (read more)

Yesterday, I made an appointment again because out gas boiler did not work. But the engineer still not came. I have no idea about this. (read more)

To cut a long story short, despite 4 "British Gas & Rentokill Engineers" calling and saying they had fixed the problem. I do not rate this service it's sloppy. I have just realised that I've just wasted hundreds of pounds on a service that does not exist. Fourth day sitting in a freezing cold house without hot water or heating, waiting for a third engineer to call tomorrow. I have a Homecare policy and have called out engineer about five times during the past two years. Every time the engineer has fixed the problem and left, I have to go and re-set the clocks and thermostats as they have been changed so that I am using more gas. British Gas treat appointments and their customers with complete contempt. They also fail to provide suitable numbers of engineers when there are periods of increased demand. I have now had two or three annual service visits postponed at the last minute in the past when they've claimed increased demand because of cold weather, but yesterday I booked an engineer visit to fix a leak caused by a problem with the hot water cylinder. I've had to turn off the hot water as it leads to dripping... (read more)

Went with BG to get our home cover earlier this year. Was a pain to try and get an engineer out to service our boiler. Once we eventually did, he suggested a few things were wrong and to fix them was going to cost over £1000. Speaking to a family friend, who is corgi registered and a plumber for over 40 years, he said that this is way over priced and having looked at our boiler and central heating system, complete unnecessary. One of the things the engineer said was a powerflush for £600... (read more)

I took out a "Homecare" contract and it is the biggest mistake ever. They didn't bother to turn up for last year's service on the day it was due, and had the cheek to tell their supervisor that I was not at home. I have witnesses AND CCTV, so I can prove that this was lies. This year's service appointment was cancelled less than 24 hours before IT was due to be done.
