CHARGED OVER £7 FOR A ONEMNUTE DIRECTORY ENQUIRY CALL, AND HAD TO RING AGAIN BECAUSE THE NUMBER GIVEN WAS NO GOOD. CHARGED A SECOND TIME,MEANING NEARLY £15 TO GET A PHONE NUMBER. WHERE IS THE GOVERNMENT, WHO SHOULD NOT ALLOW SUCH PROFITEERING

This 'service' is a disgraceful rip off. In my case it has actually hacked into my phone with some kind of malware which enabled it to claim a phone enquiry that was never made. If you ever see any bills which you nothing about do not pay it and demand your phone company get to the bottom of it.

The price is a disgrace. And where is the regulator on this?

I've just reviewed my BT phone bill on line and I'm disgusted to see a £5.61 charge for supposedly ringing 118500 for one second. They tell me I made this call and charges vary. Firstly according to MSE news costs are £2.39 per minute plus flat fee of 59p. Total £2.98. Where is BT getting this cost. I told them you couldn't even get a call through in one second. Every time I pay a bill BT thinks up an extra charge just because I'm on free call tariff.

£5.444 for a 57sec call! 20 min trying to find out why! Round are round in circles on their web site, send feed back they say they will not reply to feedback, I wonder why? So no way to contact bt. I did know about the ripoff on direct connections so they did not catch me that way.

I think it was my son who rang this number for a bit of a laugh. I am not laughing however because I seem to have been charged £4.15 for the privilege. I subsequently got through to the BT web chat who fobbed me off with a totally irrelevant web link and the explanation that it was a service number. Oh well if BT want to play silly rip off games like this then I will just close the account.

Made sure I was calling BT's directory enquiries thought that as a BT customer. I wanted the UK no of an international company, which I told them. They came back with the international no, so I said no uk and told them the no I had which wasn't working they came back with that no, eventually I was given a no and said I didn't want to e put through. I dialed it was the wrong no. That cost £10! I spent over an hour on a live chat to BT who ended by saying all I could do was call 118500 to complain but that would incur the same charges. Then after a 40 minute phone call to BT they said they couldn't refund me because 118500 is an outside company. Look at their website it is covered with the BT logo.

I called to find a number and was given their listing which was out of date, number no longer in service! Called back to enquire if they had the right information which they assured me they did. These 2 calls cost me £14.00, I'm furious can anyone tell me how to take this further? They give no information as to how much their poor and inaccurate service is costing us, is there an ombudsmen I can take this up with?

Overpriced moneymaking from BT. Charged over £11 for 3 calls each less than 30 seconds. There is NO warning about the cost of this service. I'll never use it again.

My mother has been placed in a nursing home and while trying to manage her household bills I have come across 6 months of phone bills. Her service provider is Talk Talk who are very cost effective. However, I discovered while reviewing her phone bills she has been charged £714 over 6 months for calls to 118500. I find this disgusting. She has early onset dementia and did not know what she was being charged. Some of the calls are 12 minutes!!

I was charged £4.17 for rang up only 2 seconds on the first call, the second call I was charged £27.08 for 6.30 mins. total bill is 31.25 for only 6.32 mins. This is the way you treat your customer, BT????? Dishonest and very disgusting!!!!!

I'm quite a frequent user of the service, I called today and got through to an operator She got my number very quickly which I was impressed with, and even offered me more details which were handy, postcode, opening times etc. She was very pleasant and I found out she lived and worked in Bangor ! Lovely place. Fast service, friendly operator and always warned about the pricing before putting through (to a fault, I use it so often I tell them I know, but they say "I'm sorry, I have to tell you!" The line is very pricy at £2.39 a minute, but it's a godsend when you're on the go and need a quick number, and usually my numbers are given to me within just a couple of seconds. Only one time have I been given a wrong number, and when I phoned to get the correct one the operator offered me a credit with no hassle! They provided me with the correct number too, and were very apologetic. Will continue to use!

very polite and courteous. Am always made aware of the call connect charges, so no nasty surprises. calls answered by UK operators who are willing to help with more than just a telephone number.

I spotted some excessive looking directory enquiry charges on my elderly mother,s phone bill, one for £19.71, two others for £5.38. The £19.71 charge related to a call lasting over 7 minutes. I was suspicious. My mother has no need to find new numbers, but she did ring someone at BT at the time about some over head wires in a nearby tree. I checked the small print of the bt website for their 118 500 charges. They are extortionate if calls last more than a minute. I rang BT to query the charges and my frustration increased. I was passed from number to number, eventually being asked to call 118 500 itself to complain.. When I did this the operator told me I was being charged for the conversation. I was later directed to another number, and my complaint was logged. However No one was prepared to consider my point for all BT customers that the these extortionate charges are invisible at the point of use and the operator fails to inform users of the charge being incurred at the time. For my mothers case I consider it to be immoral for her to be allowed to rack up this charge, when I suspect she was calling about something else. BT said they would ring me back to follow up my complaint but have heard nothing in 12 days.

3 MINUTES £10.76 WHT THE HELL IS FIRM ABOUT RIPPING OFF US PENSIONERS DAM YOU BT AND ALL YOUR DECIPLES A LIFE OR DEATH MATTER AND RIPPED OFF

To get your call credited call 100 which is free, only works from a landline. 100 operators take directory calls as well. Explain that you did not know the charges or whatever and demand a credit for your call, demand a manager if you have to. Don't let them fob you off saying spesk to your service provider, all they need is the number you made the call from and your name and address which is sent to your provider to revoke the charges. Hope this helps
