The only good thing about this cooker is it's looks: everything else gradually becomes a fail! The pan rests on the top of the cooker are poorly coated, and furthermore they slide around very easily so you have to keep lifting pans (even heavy ones) to move them around. The temperature controlability on the hob is poor as well - more like using an electric hob (which were always naff compared to gas) with just 3 positions for cooking on instead of the complete control people of my age... I have had this cooker for just over two years. Within the two years the clock/timer has stopped working, the paint work is comming off and now it making a ticking sound. The only reason I bought this cooker was because my sisters and sister-in-laws have always used a canon cooker which have lasted more than 15 years. I so regret buying it and I cannot tell how disappointed I am with this cooker. (read more)

How long have we been making gas cookers? is it 100 years or 200? You would think by now we would be approaching perfection in their design and manufacture. Wrong totaly wrong!!! this cooker has been designed and built by neanderthals who have just invented the wheel and the following day smelled gas and thought it might be a good idea to use it for cooking food and so they made the first gas oven and called it the Canon Chesterfield!!! We owned a New World cooker for nearly 30 years before... (read more)

Expensive but liked the look of the cooker, but that turned out to be the only good thing about it. The engineer has been out twice , around the fascia it has gone rusty and it chipped really easily, and cannon don't do paint to repair rust or chips. Looks like a 10 year old oven instead of 2years old. Will never buy Cannon again. (read more)

Reported it to relevent people and SAME chap came to our house and appeared to have no recollection of being to us before!! Replaced a part at the back. Now out of guarantee and yes you've guessed it SAME FAULT!!!!

Both myself and my wife are getting older so decided to buy a cooker we thought would last. What a mistake!! Engineer called out after just a few days to correct the ignition system, it would not stop working. He had to come back with s brand new part. Within a few months the chrome was washing off the grill pan, now totally gone. Within twelve months the clock started to blink and fade, after two years totally gone. When we purchased the cooker we took out a 5 year free parts offer that... (read more)

Likewise! I too dutifully filled in the 5 year free parts offer, only to find out last week after the 4 gas jets refuse to ignite automatically, that they charge £170 for labour etc!! But it's okay, as informed by the call centre, you can pay in instalments!!!!! The cooker is JUST 2 years old, I wish I'd done more homework before buying it.

Our cooker has gone exactly the same with the timer packing up twice and rust around the fascia, it also chips easily cannon about a touch up paint they don't supply one ,if this is the quality of there paintwork then perhaps they should think about supplying them. Will never buy this make again.

Must be the worst cooker I have ever had, my old one well over 10 years old looked in better condition when I replaced it. After 18 months the enamel on the front panel where the dials are has started to peel off and go rusty. The digital clock has started to fade and flash on and off all the time, think this will not last much longer Oven difficult to clean as the light only works when the oven is on. I would certainly say Do Not Buy the Cannon Chesterfield. (read more)

My wife and I are with you on this! We are considering writing to Cannon about this matter as it is so common and getting them to reimburse us for having to get this obviously well known matter resolved out of guarantee.

I agree with you, when cooking a large meal I end up with water dripping from the bottom of the oven door, as for the digital display
this started to fade a few months ago and has been replaced by a lovely humming noise, I am not going to pay over a £100 for an engineer to come out , will buy a little kitchen timer instead much cheaper. Shame on you Cannon you know this is a problem with this cooker and should send engineers free of charge.

both ovens do not get up to correct temp. Have stopped baking because it does'nt cook evenly. Meat cooked on outside, raw in middle. Can't make christmas cakes and worried about cooking turkey! This is the second Canon Chesterfield we've bought + on hindsight we should have learnt from the first one which had problems. We thought it just a "friday" build, + couldn't believe Canon could put such an expensive unreliable cooker on the market. How wrong we were! This second one has been a nightmare with a multitude of problems, most of which have not been rectified by their reluctant service engineer ( too far out of his normal area, cooker working perfectly, not, etc etc ) + where... Bought this because all our previous (Cannon) cookers have been good. This one is indescribably bad the problems are too numerous to list. The design (from an engineering point of view) is quite dreadful and the quality is no better. I have been studying a number of review sites such as this and have found not one positive statement about this cooker. DO NOT BUY ONE (read more)

My first Cannon cooker lasted 30 years with one new thermostat, the second gave up after ten years. This Chesterfield, bought in a hurry because I needed a new cooker for Christmas, is not too good. I should have been warned by the stupidity of the hob position indicators being painted below the knobs so they cannot be seen when standing in front of the cooker.
I chose it mainly because I wanted 4 separate pan supports so they fit in my washing up bowl, but they are so rough the...

I've got the Chesterfield C80GCS. I've had an engineer out numerous times to two cookers (my first one was replaced as the fault couldn't be rectified) - the problem is the top oven which doesn't light properly, if at all. I choose Cannon as my mum had one many years. When I first got my Chesterfield (C60GS), the temp gage on bottom cooker did not work properly. This was replaced. It cooks well in both top/bottom oven. Only complaint on hob that the dials does not match temp gage. Also, hob hard to clean and return to normal look when bought. Where can you get the cleaning product for this hob? anyone knows? The Cannon Chesterfield is the worst gas cooker I have ever used. Food cooks uneven, Light in oven does not work unless oven is turned on and then it stays on all the time, makes cleaning difficult because you can not see what you are doing. Will be going back to New World when this one breaks (which will not be too far away I'm sure). Would not recommend to anyone. (read more)

Chose a Cannon 6 months ago as I no longer could get a New World Plan 6 gas cooker (had one for 18 years and cooked like a dream). Parts not available either so nearest I could find was the Chesterfield. Ovens do condensate and cooks better when both ovens on. The overall look is good but on closer inspection find that the quality that you expect from Cannon is not there. (read more)

I totally agree with Heidi 1's review of the Cannon Chesterfield Gas Cooker. The quality is just not there. I have sadly just disposed of my Cannon CD2 after 20 years sterling service and find the Chesterfield is not a patch on that model. The gas makes such a noise when it comes through the burners on the Chesterfield and the knobs are awkward to use and do not allow for enough user control. The glass lid is flimsy and there are only two shelves for the main oven. I agree with the comments about the grill pan, which is awkward to use. The handle must not be in place whilst under the heat, so the removal and subsequent re-attaching of the handle has to take place while the grillpan is in the grill, which is by no means an easy manoeuvre. I wish I had read Heidi 1's review before I purchased my new cooker. I am extremely disappointed to say the least.

Look around before buying.
There are better quality cookers available at a more reasonable price.
Cannon seem to have forgotten how to make a good quality product. The burrs have not even been taken off the pan supports before enameling. The heat control of the hob burners is very very poor, the heat settings do not relate to the dial markings, the burners are full on when the dial indicates half on - this could be dangerous as you cannot see the flame when it is covered by a pan.

I too sadly, own a Cannon cooker. After two years the white paint on the sectiion of the oven that houses the control dials has started to flake off very badly. . Cannon say that they will send an engineer out at an enormous cost to me ,payable in advance to view the oven!!!!!!!!!!! Surely the oven was not 'fit for purpose' when sold to me.

I have the same problem and had the same response fron Cannon.Any idea where one might buy a replacement <control housing section, as it looks that it might be possible to easily repace this section myself.
