We had a ideal isar installed by a government grant ,warmfront installation . They threw them in !.What did I expect for a freebee . The boiler broke down two to three times a year . It was a good job I took out an insurance and I bet they were upset that they insured me, good old swinton .£7 a month . It covers boiler, drains, locks, windows, roof, check it out everyone no excess ect ect, but you have to service your boiler once a year, ideal boiler marks out of ten F,ALL , minus zero.! This boiler , the Ideal Isar, was recommended and installed by by British Gas. My husband and I were pensioners when we signed up for the credit agreement. If We had only been told that it would cost us over twice the £6000 installation charges we would never have signed on the dotted line. My husband died in December 2010 and we had already paid out £6000+ with another 5 years to go.After a further year of struggling the debt got out of my control and for several months I received... If you want to waste lots of your life waiting for British Gas Engineers (who I still believe to this day are culpable for this over priced rubbish installation), then go for this boiler. The only reason this boiler gets one star is there is no option for zero stars. Electrical failures, leaks, mechanical parts breaking down. My Ideal boiler has just been condemned as not economical to repair. Ideal boilers are totally un-reliable and the company is the worse one I have ever dealt with. Ideal totally replaced the boiler as they could not remove the heat exchanger, after about 3 years. At the next breakdown they told me the boiler had not been installed properly and it was unsafe and that I should go back to the installers to get it installed properly! I pointed out to them that they were the installers. Avoid Ideal boilers.

hi, sounds like it's not getting seviced properly!
firstly, noisy ign is probably a worn ign electrode, which should be checked/replaced at the annual service.
The second fault appears to be the diverter cartridge sticking as "t" is dhw pre-heat,which can fail if the system water quality is poor. this will heat the rads when no demand!
These days boilers need opened up at a service not just safety checked! hope this helps.

Hello David,
just to comment on the \"Explosion\" you are experiencing with your isar. We had the isar HE30 fitted under the warm front scheme 3yrs ago. After a couple of weeks we had the same Explosion most times it fired up? It appeared to be coming from the outlet pipe.
It was like being next to a 12bore shotgun going off when it happened.
All in all we had 13 visits from Isat engineers, who practically replaced every part---withou any difference? Just our luck the \"bang\" never happened when an engineer was present?
However, eventually in a last ditch attempt to rectify the problem before it was \"Condemned\" an engineer replaced the actual Burner? He replaced it with the earlier model of plate? Nontheless it worked? Hope this helps?
Steve
