Good Points: The people and the scenery.
Bad Points: Long travel time to and from the UK, though the narrow gauge railway from Kalka to Shimla is a trip to remember.
General comments: I went on the Himalayan trip last September starting and ending in Shimal and spending the two weeks in between riding up into the Himalayas and through the magnificent Spiti valley. The riding varies between tarmac and rough track and can be hard going at times. The back-up is fantastic with a mechanic, medic, spares and outriders to make sure that you have the best time possible. All you have to do is ride and admire the view. You get to see a wide variety of scenery from the wooded hills of Shimla to the high altitude deserts of the Spiti valley, visiting a couple of monasteries on the way, one at a height of nearly 15,000 feet. The bikes are 500cc Royal Enfields which, though crude, just keep going and going despite the punishment given to them.
