I have these set up with my Mordaunt Short Avant 906i's and have done for many years. An excellent analogue stereo amp. Considering I only play flac's and bitstream DTS and AC3 re-sampled through madflac, reclocker, lav and AC3 anyone claiming these speakers don't produce a good sound is nonsense. You simply haven't got everything tweaked to perfection. I've set up £1000+ 5.1, 7.1 media servers with superior digital output and while they obviously produce a more rounded and better sound... This amp properly matched with a good book shelf speaker ( I'm using a pair of Mission 700's) sounds like a tube amp. Very difficult to push over the edge. Solid imaging deep soundstage, and plenty of power begs the question of diminishing returns when spending more. Great amp to do blind tests on audiophools who need to throw away money on over priced so called "high end" amps that sound different but no better. (read more)

It gives great sound quality. Change over from speaker to speaker is easy. The design is beautiful and I like the blue LED's. Quite expensive but it is a beautiful amp and has great sound quality. (read more)

Cambridge Audio Azur 540 is NOT high-end audio, despite what you may have heard. First example was defective, second only fair. Would not purchase again. (read more)

Can not recommend to anyone based on quality issues. Perhaps they had Lucas Electric do the wiring. (read more)

I bought the Cambridge 540A to go with Mission bookshelf speakers and was immediately impressed by the quality of the sound. I use it for listening to CD's in a normal home environment in a medium size room.
A few months ago I decided to upgrade to floor standing speakers and bought some KEF XQ5 which were on special offer. This relatively small amp powers them beautifully and the sound is amazing - it seems to match the KEF speakers very well, very clear treble and mid range and enough...

Not a Hi-Fi just a stereo. I found that the Cambridge Audio Azur 540A were good enough for listening to TV but poor for music. (read more)

You say you don't like the amp but don't explain why. What area of it's Sonic abilities don't you like and why?
