Good Points: I have no idea of why the first reviewer was so negative on this product other than trying to make up for his lack of common sense regarding the kid and the plastic hammer. He is probably expecting the TV to be the kids babysitter like most parents. I own 2 other hdtv's, a 50” Sony 720p LCD, and a 50" Samsung 720p plasma, both of which cost substantially more than this Akai, but neither one exceeds the Akai in any way as far as picture quality, Construction, connectivity or ease of use. In the store a 42"lcd 1080 Sony and the 42"lcd Akai were side by side and I preferred the sharpness and color quality of this Akai over the $2500 Sony. Granted there is no TV tuner in the Akai but I operate off satellite with an external hd receiver provided by the sat. company anyway. Why buy a TV when a monitor is what you really need regardless? This 1080p Akai has superior quality and picture at an excellent price point. I find the non-hd pictures are great if you read the manual first!

Bad Points: If there is anything negative about this unit it might be the fact that there is no high impact screen protector available to protect against little plastic hammers.

General comments: The Akai LCT42Z6T is certainly a superior value with a great picture and features. If you want to spend three or four times more money, sure, you will find something a little better. For most folks, you will be thrilled!

I am writing this to warn people with small children in their house to beware of the LCD and Plasma screen TVs. My 2 year old grandson hit my 2 month old Akai LCD TV with a plastic hammer that weighs less than an ounce and broke the screen. The screen is not repairable or replaceable. If a small plastic hammer will ruin these TVs, think what a glass or anything else a young kid might hit the TV with might do. Please take this information into account when looking at new TVs. Thanks, Steve Aulick ...
